Tobacco contains thousands of chemical substances which known to be harmful to periodontal tissues. Nicotine was considered as the most toxic substances to periodontal tissues. The datas in this review indicate that smoking may have a significant role in the initiation and progression of periodontal destruction. The conclusion of this and the other studies indicate that smokers have a less favorable response to periodontal therapy than non smoker. Nicotine is potentially toxic substances that have a detrimental effect on periodontal tissue, by altering the host response or directly damage the cells of normal periodontium.

<p>Terbit.com  Daily  has  reported  that  the  prevalence  of  periodontitis increases related with age person. Found that 35,7% of patients with periodontitis in the group 30-39 years old to 66,5% in the group 50-59 years old, increase</p> <p>89,2% in the group 80-90 years old. Periodontitis that commonly found is a chronic periodontitis which is occurs in individuals older than 45 years, but can also be found in children.</p> <p>The main characteristic of periodontitis is the damage of the periodontal connective tissue, alveolar bone, and the movement of the junctional epithelium to the apical. Bacterial components may directly or indirectly cause tissue damage. Inflammatory    mediators    product    such    as    proteinases,    cytokines,    and prostaglandins are part of the host response that can also cause tissue damage. Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) is a proteinase that can cause periodontal tissue damage by disrupting the extracellular matrix molecules in periodontal tissues. Since is known that MMP has a role in various pathological processes, therapy to inhibit activity MMP in pathological processes has developed. MMP inhibitors will be a useful adjunct therapy for the treatment of periodontal disease. Many products have been introduced as an MMP inhibitor, for example: tetracycline</p> <p>and various derivatives, such as doxycycline and minocycline which are capable of inhibiting the activity of several classes of MMPs. Doxycycline has the ability to inhibit the increase in collagenase activity that is pathological in subgingival and prevent periodontitis to become more severe.</p>

Tobacco contains about 4000 different toxic substances from which almost 40 are proven to be cancerogenic. Nicotine, toxic alkaloid, is the most active substance in tobacco causing major number of harmful consequences for human organism as a whole, and for periodontal tissues as well. The aim of the paper was to show harmful effects of smoking on periodontal disease development, and to point out the problems caused by smoking during and after the periodontal treatment. Periodontal disease occurs in smokers more frequently as opposed to non-smokers. Typically, smokers have lower level of gingival inflammation, more excessive and accelerated loss of alveolar bone and epithelial insertion, deeper periodontal pockets and numerous gingival recessions. Along with that, smokers are carrying a decreased immune response that is expressed through various defense mechanisms. Smoking has negative impact on the outcome of conservative and surgical periodontal therapy. Effects of smoking on periodontal therapy success rate are requiring administration of antiseptic solutions and antibiotics throughout the treatment course. Every periodontologist must influence patients to stop smoking and thus act preventively on occurrence and progress of periodontal disease.

Molds on buildings can cause health- and aesthetic problems. Looking for suitable cheap and non-toxic substances to eliminate them is therefore an actual task. In the present study, effect of three selected methylxanthines (1,3,7-trimethylpurine-2,6-dione, 3,7-dihydro-3,7-dimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione and 1,3-dimethylxanthine) on growth of non-specific species of molds occurring on building materials were tested on agar medium under laboratory conditions. The chemical substances were dissolved in distilled water and applied into agar. Solid agar has been exposed to air molds for 24 hours. Agar plates were then covered with lids and placed for 5 days in a laboratory thermostat at stable test conditions (dark place, 25 °C). After that, the mycelium was observed. The results showed that 3,7-dihydro-3,7-dimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione and 1,3- dimethylxanthine were not effective against the molds growth. On the other hand, 1,3,7-trimethylpurine-2,6-dione was able to eliminate mold growth on agar medium at a concentration of 1 g∙l-1 or higher.

Cryptography is used to protect the contents of information from anyone except those who have the authority or secret key to open information that has been encoded. Along with the development of technology and computers, the increase in computer crime has also increased, especially in image manipulation. There are many ways that people use to manipulate images that have a detrimental effect on others. The originality of a digital image is the authenticity of the image in terms of colors, shapes, objects and information without the slightest change from the other party. Nowadays many digital images circulating on the internet have been manipulated and even images have been used for material fraud in the competition, so we need a method that can detect the image is genuine or fake. In this study, the authors used the MD4 and SHA-384 methods to detect the originality of digital images, by using this method an image of doubtful authenticity can be found out that the image is authentic or fake.Keywords: Originality, Image, MD4 and SHA-384

Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder associated with rapidly progressing periodontitis leading to premature loss of deciduous and permanent dentition and diffuse palmoplantar keratosis. Immunologic alterations, genetic mutations, and role of bacteria are some aetiologic factors. Patients present with early periodontal destruction, so periodontists play a significant role in diagnosis and management. This paper reports a case of Papillon- Lefevre syndrome with its clinical manifestations and challenges for periodontal management which was diagnosed in dental department.

This chapter uses the trajectory of the Southern African Development Community (“SADC”) Tribunal to chart sociopolitical constraints on international judicial lawmaking. It studies the SADC Tribunal backlash case, which paved the way for a curtailment of the Tribunal’s authority, stripping the Tribunal of both private access and its jurisdiction over human rights. Showing how jurisprudential engagement with sociopolitical context plays a significant role in explaining the Tribunal's loss of authority, the chapter introduces the concept of sociopolitical dissonance. Sociopolitical dissonance is a state that results when a legal decision contradicts or undermines deeply held norms that a given society or community forms on the basis of its social, political, and economic history. Sociopolitical resonance, on the other hand, describes the quality of affirming or according with a given society's norms as informed by its sociopolitical history.

In this study we investigate how consumers in The Netherlands can be persuaded to adopt sustainable practices when purchasing, using and disposing of clothes. This study investigates the attitude-behavior gap for the sustainable choices for purchase, use and disposing of clothes. For each consumption phase we ran a two-step multiple regression. The findings showed that the importance of the factors vary in the three consumption phases. For purchasing and disposal decisions, the core motivator social motivation predicts sustainable practices best, while it has no role in the usage phase. The factor ability appeared to have a significant role in the disposal phase, but not in the other phases. Finally, the trigger appears to lower the consumers’ ability in the purchasing phase, while it enhances the core motivator social evaluation in the disposal phase.

A majority of toxins produced by type I toxin–antitoxin (TA-1) systems are small membrane-localized proteins that were initially proposed to kill cells by forming non-specific pores in the cytoplasmic membrane. The examination of the effects of numerous TA-1 systems indicates that this is not the mechanism of action of many of these proteins. Enterococcus faecalis produces two toxins of the Fst/Ldr family, one encoded on pheromone-responsive conjugative plasmids (FstpAD1) and the other on the chromosome, FstEF0409. Previous results demonstrated that overexpression of the toxins produced a differential transcriptomic response in E. faecalis cells. In this report, we identify the specific amino acid differences between the two toxins responsible for the differential response of a gene highly induced by FstpAD1 but not FstEF0409. In addition, we demonstrate that a transporter protein that is genetically linked to the chromosomal version of the TA-1 system functions to limit the toxicity of the protein.

The title of this essay begins with the word traditional and it moves towards the idea of change. As is well known, these terms—tradition and change—are not opposites, nor are they to be understood in contradistinction to one another. It is important in this context to avoid the temptation to treat them as contradictory or to draw contrasts between what one considers on the one hand traditional, and on the other, changing. One cannot accurately speak of what was as over against what will be, or what is becoming. Nor can one view the ancient as opposed to that which is modern. Clearly, the opposite of change is permanence and persistence, and is not—at least not necessarily—to be couched in terms of the traditional. One need only to remind oneself that among the most compelling elements in the West's intellectual history is the idea of progress, to understand that there are indeed traditions in which the notion of change itself has played a significant role. And so it does not follow that "traditional Indian polity" is a set of concepts to be placed over against the "dynamics of change"—quite the contrary, as I shall try to show in what follows.

Background: Findings of studies testing the association between smokeless tobacco (SLT) use and periodontal health have shown varying results in different populations. Considering the high prevalence of SLT use in India, the present study was conducted to understand the pattern of periodontal destruction within different areas of the dentition among SLT users. Methods: Age, gender, oral hygiene habits, the frequency and duration of SLT consumption, the type of SLT product used, and the site of retention of the SLT product in the oral cavity were recorded among 90 SLT users. Probing depth (PD), recession (REC), and clinical attachment loss (CAL) at SLT-associated and non SLT-associated teeth of the mandibular arch were compared based on the site of retention of the SLT product, the type of product used, and the duration of the habit. Results: REC and CAL were significantly higher at the SLT-associated zones compared to non SLT-associated zones and at both interproximal and mid-buccal sites of SLT-associated teeth. Among individuals who had the habit for more than 5 years and also among those who had the habit for 5–10 years, PD, REC, and CAL were significantly higher at SLT-associated teeth than at non SLT-associated teeth. Significantly greater periodontal destruction was observed at SLT-associated teeth among khaini users and gutkha users. Conclusions: Smokeless tobacco consumption resulted in greater destruction of periodontal tissues. The severity of periodontal destruction at SLT-associated sites differed depending on the type of smokeless tobacco used, the site of retention of the SLT, and the duration of the habit.
