Loop Gain of the Common-Drain Colpitts OscillatorThis paper presents the derivations of the voltage transfer functions of the amplifier A, the feedback network β, and the loop gainTof the common-drain (CD) Colpitts oscillator, using the small-signal model of the CD Colpitts oscillator. The derivation of the characteristic equation of the CD Colpitts oscillator is presented. Using the characteristic equation, the equation for the oscillation frequency of the sinusoidal output voltage and the condition for steady-state oscillation are derived. The characteristic equation is used to obtain a plot of trajectories of the poles of the CD Colpitts oscillator by varying the MOSFET small-signal transconductancegm. The locations of the complex conjugate poles depicting starting and steady-state conditions for oscillations are also presented.

Recently, analytical expressions for the damped natural frequency and damping ratio were proposed for the so-called dynamical hunting, either by assuming that the wheel conicity can be neglected, or by imposing restrictions on the ratio between the lateral and longitudinal creep coefficients, and also, on the ratio of the track span to the yawing diameter. However, instead of a pair of complex conjugate roots, and two real roots, of opposite sign, two pairs of complex conjugate roots were obtained for the characteristic equation. Purpose of this work is to achieve accurate expressions for the damping associated to the hunting motion, without imposing geometrical or tribological limitations into the vibration model, and to evaluate the error on the damping ratio, introduced by the simplified models. Also, nature of the roots of the characteristic equation is discussed, relative to the critical speed of the railway vehicle.

In this paper, we consider a planar motion of a rigid body partially filled with an inviscid liquid and suspended in a uniform horizontal flow. At first, we write the equations of the problem, prove the existence of an equilibrium under a suitable condition and, using a first integral, we give a sufficient condition of stability of this one. Afterwards, we give the equations of the small oscillations of the system about its equilibrium position. Writing these equations in an operatorial form, we prove the existence of a denumerable infinity of complex conjugate pairs of eigenvalues having the infinity as a point of accumulation and obtain the characteristic equation permitting the calculation of the eigenvalues.

Most of intracavity pumped optical parametric oscillators (OPO) are made nowaday according to a scheme with a single-resonance OPO located in the cavity of a pump laser. Usually the cavities of the pump and OPO (signal) emission have different values of round-trip time (delay). Aim of the study is therefore to build up the mathematical model of intracavity optical parametric oscillator (ICOPO) considered as a time-delay dynamic system with two values of delay in both cavities (the pump and signal). Methods. The model allows to analyze the steady state (equilibrium point) of the dynamic system and its stability with the help of characteristic equation’s solution. Results. Countless set of the characteristic equation roots is shown to consist of complex-conjugate pairs with imaginary parts which are nearly multiples of intermode beat frequencies in the pump and signal cavities. The diagram of stability depending on the position of nonlinear crystal in the resonator was built on the parameter plane. Features of the plane partition into the areas of stability/instabilty vs behavior of the characteristic equation roots are examined. Discussion. The results of the study allow to consider an ICOPO as the time-delay dynamic system thus adding to the physical picture of intracavity parametric oscillators.
