The aim of this study is to reveal the opinions of teachers, who gave the science lessons that took effect in Turkey in 2004 and 2013, on the sub-components of the programs and to identify to what extent the objectives of the program have been achieved. In total 89 teachers, out of which 42 were females and 47 were males, in the study which was conducted by the semi-structured interview method. Data collected from the study, where five questions were asked to teachers, was settled by analyzing the science programs according to components of the Ohio Competency Based Science Model. While result from the study shows that the teachers were qualified to ensure the development of some behaviors that were expected to be seen on the students as a result of science programs; especially the students gave a lower level of positive opinion about the components related with how they will use this data. In addition; while the teachers supported that the scientific process skills, are one of the basic elements of science programs, were sufficient for the gain of basic skills, they stated that they are not sufficient for the gain of some causal and experimental skills.

The paper reexamines the semi-structured interview method on the basis of data collected in a study of medium-sized Serbian towns. The analysis of transcripts shows that the analytic quality of data varied depending on the interviewee?s position in the local institutional structure, so that in interviews with representatives of political and social institutions role playing (the performative) prevailed over providing information on social reality and attitudes (the informative). This finding is situated in the context of current debates within qualitative methodology which, while illuminating the complex intertwining of different dimensions of the interview (as source of data and interaction situation), fail to recognize fully the problem of performativity and provide solutions. In the final section some undesired epistemological and political implications are discussed of an uncritical application of the semi-structured interview if conceived in an overly antipositivistic fashion and disregarding the institutional and broader social framework within which the research takes place.

The quality of science education is a very contemporary didactic topic at present. Improving the quality of this education is unthinkable without a quality science teacher training at universities and other educational institutions. Some innovation of contents and organization of the study programme for future science teachers was realized within the ESF project "Professional science teacher training for careers in a competitive environment" at Faculty of Science of Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. The project focuses on improving the training of teachers of all science branches in connection with the growing needs of the current competitive labour market. One of the main aims of the project leading to this improvement was the creation of new and innovated subjects oriented to teaching practice. A research focused on finding benefits of the new subjects for students was realized within the project. The objective of the research was to investigate the difference between students’ expectations and real benefits of the subjects. The research results were very useful as a feedback for a subsequent modification of the study programs. Some particular examples of the process and results of the research are described in the paper. Key words: initial teacher training, science subjects, innovation, evaluation.

The purpose of this chapter is to clarify the process of female developers' career development and their characteristics based on the life stories of creative professionals employed in the Japanese gaming industry. This study followed a one-to-one semi-structured interview format and employed a qualitative methodology. The survey was conducted on 21 female game developers who have more than five years work experience in the Japanese gaming industry. One of the most important analytical results of the study is the behavioral characteristics of female game developers in their career development are that they support persons who have similar problems in the workplace, and they contribute to mentor game developers in the next generation. In conclusion, female game developers do not have clearly defined career goals; however, they have the ability to alter their work situation, and evaluate and manage it if needed. Therefore, it is important that female game developers have diverse role models. Further research directions are discussed.

Ukhrul a hill district in Manipur State, India was selected for a study of women food vendors. One of the key objectives of the study was to find out the many reasons that drive them into food vending venture and to draw a light upon their everyday struggle. Purposive sampling method was used for the study. The investigator used in-depth interview method with the help of structured interview schedule. The leading factor that came up when looked into the reason that drives them into this business was for them to be able to provide for their family livelihood. Most of the women belonged to a less privilege backgrounds and for them to be able to have a means to make available the needs for their family and be independent financially is a strong hold of empowerment and motivation. Poor educational background and lack of other employment opportunities compel most of these women to look for an occupation like food vending that does not require much start-up capital and requires little or no educational qualification. Major management of their family needs was met by their income. Food variety and availability for their own family consumption significantly magnifies when women enters this venture. The major challenges experience by them in their business was their constant everyday struggle to get profit from their perishable food items before they get spoiled while keeping up with their fellow competitors. Dealing with complains and disapproval of occupation of certain space by permanent shop keepers and local authorities are also their common struggle. They make the food preferred by the people in the region easily available in the street at cheap affordable prices and making the street effortlessly lively as well with their presence. But yet their contribution for the society in which they exist still seems to be invisible or ignored in general with hardly any provision of basic facilities such as vending sheds or toilets, etc. Measures to meet their basic necessities and improving their social security, needs to be urgently addressed by the concerned authorities.

In the concept of this study, science teacher candidates prepared some animations regarding biology topics by using slow-motion technique. Following this process of animation making, how teacher candidates see extend of contribution of the process on education is examined. This study is carried out with 49 teacher candidates, who were taking general biology course in the spring semester of 2013-2014 academic years. The data of the research is collected by 8-item five point Likert-type slow-motion survey forms and semi-structured interview questions, developed by the researchers. As a result of the study, the teacher candidates reported that the slow-motion technique is an informative technique, which is instructive, useful, developing their creativity, enjoyable and stimulating to the course. As a result of the interviews made with teacher candidates, it is revealed that they are quite willing to use this technique in their professional lives as a teaching approach, which contribute to their learning skills, thus they want to implement this technique to their students as well.

The low level of science teacher graduation in the professional teacher program in the last two years has become a severe concern for researchers in higher education. Here we analyze these problems by measuring the Science Process (SP) Skills of science teachers in Indonesia through this program. Data collection procedures are interviews, worksheets, and questionnaires, while data analysis techniques use mixed methods, consist of quantitative and qualitative methods simultaneously. The SP skills data obtained were Observing 76.1%, Proposing Hypothesis 76.4%, Planning an Experiment 60.0%, Utilizing Tools 57.2%, Interpreting 39.4%, Applying Concept 48.1%, and Communicating 18.3%. The lowest percentage is in interpreting skills and communicating skills. Based on the analysis result, the causes are the short time teaching experience and the educational background of science teachers who are not linear with their competence.
