Abstract Background:In recent years, HIV testing has become one of the effective strategies to reduce the risk of the disease. Frequent HIV testing can be cost effective. Therefore, an in-depth study of factors related to the testing behavior of men who have sex with men (MSM) were analyzed to optimize intervention strategies.Methods:From March 2011 to October 2018, the project was carried out in a Tianjin bathhouse, and 5165 MSM were surveyed using snowball sampling. Factors related to HIV testing behavior were analyzed by multi-level multiple logistic regression analysis after grouping according to testing frequency, and comprehensive analysis was performed.Results:The multivariate logistic analysis showed that 6 variables including young MSM(OR=0.67, 95% CI: 0.49-0.92, P=0.01), low-education MSM (OR=0.60, 95% CI: 0.47-0.76, P <0.0001), low AIDS knowledge (95% CI: 0.22-0.29, P <0.0001), marital status(OR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.07-1.58, p = 0.007), acceptance of condom promotion and distribution(OR = 10.98, 95% CI: 8.33-14.47, p <0.0001), and frequency of condom use(p <0.05) could link to HIV testing behaviors.Conclusions:In order to achieve the 90-90-90 goal, targeted publicity and education and promote self-testing kit should be carried out to encourage frequent HIV testing, mainly including Young MSM (especially students), low-education people, married MSM and those who cannot keep using condoms during anal sex.

Despite recommendations of annual HIV testing for high-risk individuals, one-third of infected men who have sex with men (MSM) are unaware of their serostatus. In an effort to improve HIV prevention services and subsequently decrease prevalence, this study aimed to examine the HIV testing patterns and factors associated with testing frequency among MSM. Utilizing eight reliable and validated instruments and a sample of 374 sexually active MSM, this study examined a series of demographic, behavioral and psychosocial associations of antibody testing frequency, including substance use/abuse, depression levels, internalized homophobia, unprotected anal intercourse, sexual regulation and attribution, and HIV knowledge, . MSM who tested for HIV frequently were more likely to be older, have higher levels of educational attainment, and self-identify as gay. Respondents who reported never having been tested and irregularly tested had higher levels of internalized homophobia, depression, and alcohol use and abuse patterns. Respondents who had never been tested or infrequently tested engaged in lower levels of sexual risk, particularly unprotected receptive anal intercourse. Those with no or irregular histories of testing also exhibited greater external sexual loci of control, and were significantly more likely to attribute life events to external, unstable, and pessimistic causes.

<p>Clark County, Nevada had a 52% increase in newly diagnosed HIV infections in young people age 13-24 with 83% of the new diagnoses in this age group being men who have sex with men (MSM). HIV testing and counseling is critical for HIV prevention, care and treatment, yet young people are the least likely to seek HIV testing. The purpose of this study was to identify barriers and facilitators to HIV testing experienced by young MSM in Clark County, Nevada.<strong> </strong>We conducted a qualitative focus group discussion to identify barriers and facilitators to HIV testing among eleven young MSM in March, 2015. The primary barrier to HIV testing identified by the group was a lack of awareness or knowledge about testing for HIV. Other barriers within the person included: fear of results, fear of rejection, and fear of disclosure. Barriers identified within the environment included: access issues, stigma, and unfriendly test environments for young people. In addition to increasing awareness, intervention to increase HIV testing among MSM young people should incorporate access to testing in environments where the adolescents are comfortable and which reduces stigma. HIV testing sites should be convenient, accessible and young person/gay friendly.</p>

The Brazilian HIV/AIDS epidemic is concentrated among men who have sex with men (MSM), however HIV testing rates among MSM are not commensurate with their risk. Strategies to expand early diagnosis may include use of self-conducted home-based testing kits, which are now available for purchase in the US. In April 2011 we conducted a survey with Brazilian MSM using Facebook to assess HIV testing preferences and acceptability of home-based testing. Among 356 previously tested, HIV-negative MSM, 47% reported a preference for home-based testing, 27% preferred clinic-based testing, and 26% had no preference. Less frequent testers and those who had considered testing but failed to test were more likely to prefer home-based testing. Close to 90% reported that they would use self-test kits; 62% and 54% said they would use home-based testing to make choices about unprotected sex with regular and new partners, respectively. Concerns included difficulty to understand the tests (32%) and receiving results alone (23%). Overall, home-based testing may appeal to MSM and result in increased testing frequency. Research on feasibility and utilization of self-tests in practice is needed.

Background: HIV rapid point-of-care (RPOC) testing was approved in Australia in 2012 prompting new testing models. We describe gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBM) testing in the first year of operations at Australia’s first shop-front, community-based RPOC testing service, PRONTO!, and characterise return testers and first-time testers. Methods: Univariable and multivariable logistic regression using data collected at clients’ first test at PRONTO! from 15 August 2013 to 14 August 2014 examined correlates of: 1) return-testing within 6 months of GBMs first test at PRONTO!; and 2) reporting a first ever HIV test at PRONTO!. Results: In the first year, 1226 GBM tested at PRONTO! (median age = 30.4 years, 60.2% Australian born). Condomless anal sex with casual or regular partners was reported by 45% and 66% of GBM, respectively. Almost one-quarter (23%) of GBM returned within 6 months of their first test. Return-testing was associated with being born overseas (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.48, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.10–2.0), reporting a regular check-up as reason to test (AOR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.01–2.30) and reporting a HIV test in the 6 months before first testing at PRONTO! (AOR = 1.73, 95% CI = 1.09–2.73). Reporting first testing at PRONTO! (17.9%) was positively associated with younger age (<30 years; AOR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.18–2.71) and negatively associated with reporting a regular check-up as reason to test (AOR = 0.45, 95% CI = 0.29–0.71) and recent group sex (AOR = 0.37, 95% CI = 0.23–0.59). Conclusion: Despite PRONTO! being designed to reduce barriers to HIV testing, return testing rates in the first year were low and not associated with client risk. Service refinements, including the provision of comprehensive sexually transmissible infection testing, are needed to increase testing frequency and enhance population HIV prevention benefits.

BACKGROUND Men who have sex with men (MSM) have high HIV incidence and prevalence burdens but relatively low HIV testing rates. Literature showed insufficient evidence on the efficacy of Social media (WeChat) based HIV self-testing (HIVST) kits distribution approaches among MSM and their sexual partners. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated an Social media (WeChat) based HIVST distribution intervention in increasing HIV testing uptake among MSM and their sexual partners in China. METHODS The study used a 12-month stepped-wedge randomized controlled trial design and an online survey mode. MSM who were HIV-negative or with unknown HIV status were recruited through social media marketing and outreaches by community opinion leaders between August and December 2018 in Shenyang, Beijing, Chongqing, and Shenzhen. Participants were randomly allocated to four groups, which were intervened by sequence. The intervention group received free HIVST kits on top of the control condition that participants received standard education and care. Participants were followed up from January to December 2019. Generalized linear models were used to assess HIV testing coverage and frequency difference between the intervention and the control stage. RESULTS Each group enrolled 140 eligible MSM with a total of 560 participants. Twelve participants were diagnosed with HIV infections, and 4 of them were in the follow-up period. Participants in the intervention stage were nine times likely to receive an HIV test than in the control stage (85.6% vs. 39.2%, risk ratio [RR]=9.21, 95%CI 5.92~14.33). The intervention also increased participants’ HIV testing frequency (1.48 vs. 0.59 times, risk difference [RD]=0.89, 95%CI 0.82~0.96). Moreover, the intervention increased HIV testing proportion (49.0% vs. 30.1%, RR=2.23, 95%CI 1.46~3.40) and mean HIV testing frequency (0.69 vs. 0.35 times, RD=0.26, 95%CI 0.15~0.38) among participants sexual partners who received HIVST through secondary distribution. CONCLUSIONS An Social media (WeChat) based HIVST distribution intervention effectively increased HIV testing coverage and frequency in MSM and their sexual partners. Future programs could apply this approach in HIV education and testing efforts to reduce HIV incidence.
