Abstract Communication intelligent manhole cover (CIMC) can effectively, accurately and in real time monitor the status change of communication manhole cover and helps protect the safety of communication pipeline and the comprehensive utilization of pipeline resources. The traditional monitoring method often leads to frequent false alarms due to the complex working environment of manhole cover and the random error of sensor. In terms of the equipment status signals generated by the CIMC terminal, a new alarm method of CIMC with multiple event fusion in this paper via jointing analysis of multi-sensor status signals is proposed on the basis of abnormal alarm events definition. The experimental result shows that the proposed CIMC alarm method by means of multiple sensor signals in this paper can not only make up for the defect that it is difficult to fully reflect the real state of manhole cover by a single sensor, but also reduces the false alarm rate caused by the random error of sensor and CIMC system. It has better practicability for the intelligent management of manhole cover and be conducive to the construction of intelligent transportation and smart city.

AbstractAs a comprehensive utilization of pipeline resources, communication intelligent manhole cover (CIMC) can effectively real-time monitor communication manhole cover and protect the safety of communication pipeline. Due to the complex working environment of manhole cover and the random error of sensor, the traditional monitoring method usual leads to frequent false alarm in actual applications. In order to ensure the monitoring service quality and improve the service efficiency, a new alarm method of CIMC with multiple event fusion in this paper via jointing analysis of multi-sensor status signals is proposed based on the equipment status signals generated by the CIMC terminal and abnormal alarm events definition. The experimental result shows that the proposed CIMC alarm method by means of multiple sensor signals in this paper can not only make up for the defect of a single sensor, but also reduces the false alarm rate caused by the random error of sensor and CIMC system. It can promote the intelligent monitoring efficiency of the manhole cover and be conducive to the construction of intelligent transportation and smart city.

AbstractGlobal deterioration of marine ecosystems, together with increasing pressure to use them, has created a demand for new, more efficient and cost-efficient monitoring tools that enable assessing changes in the status of marine ecosystems. However, demonstrating the cost-efficiency of a monitoring method is not straightforward as there are no generally applicable guidelines. Our study provides a systematic literature mapping of methods and criteria that have been proposed or used since the year 2000 to evaluate the cost-efficiency of marine monitoring methods. We aimed to investigate these methods but discovered that examples of actual cost-efficiency assessments in literature were rare, contradicting the prevalent use of the term “cost-efficiency.” We identified five different ways to compare the cost-efficiency of a marine monitoring method: (1) the cost–benefit ratio, (2) comparative studies based on an experiment, (3) comparative studies based on a literature review, (4) comparisons with other methods based on literature, and (5) subjective comparisons with other methods based on experience or intuition. Because of the observed high frequency of insufficient cost–benefit assessments, we strongly advise that more attention is paid to the coverage of both cost and efficiency parameters when evaluating the actual cost-efficiency of novel methods. Our results emphasize the need to improve the reliability and comparability of cost-efficiency assessments. We provide guidelines for future initiatives to develop a cost-efficiency assessment framework and suggestions for more unified cost-efficiency criteria.

In recent years, manufacturing companies have been continuously engaging in research for the full implementation of smart factories, with many studies on methods to prevent facility failures that directly affect the productivity of the manufacturing sites. However, most studies have only analyzed sensor signals rather than text manually typed by operators. In addition, existing studies have not proposed an actual application system considering the manufacturing site environment but only presented a model that predicts the status or failure of the facility. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a real-world failure prevention framework that alerts the operator by providing a list of possible failure categories based on a failure pattern database before the operator starts work. The failure pattern database is constructed by analyzing and categorizing manually entered text to provide more detailed information. The performance of the proposed framework was evaluated utilizing actual manufacturing data based on scenarios that can occur in a real-world manufacturing site. The performance evaluation experiments demonstrated that the proposed framework could prevent facility failures and enhance the productivity and efficiency of the shop floor.

Workers who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ)-identified have always been a part of the workplace in the United States, yet there has been a lack of awareness about how to advocate for the needs of these people. This lack of awareness was challenged by Congresswoman Bella Abzug. Abzug’s campaign for creating an equal working environment for sexual minorities initiated gradual changes in the public discourse concerning workplace and other broad equality measures for these communities. To frame these gradual transformations within a historical context, we use Lewin’s force field analysis framework to examine the change efforts of Abzug. Abzug had beginning success in thawing the status quo yet her visions for equality for LGBTQ people have yet to be realized. Using Abzug’s social action as an example, this article concludes that allies must continue to challenge societal oppression, power, and privilege and to demand civil rights protections for LGBTQ individuals.

Abstract. As a special part of architectural heritage, the colored pattern is not only artwork to decorate the architecture, but information reflecting specific historical era. So it has great cultural and artistic value. However, the colored pattern is one of the most sensitive types of cultural relics, which is sensitive to natural environment changes and highly vulnerable to erosion. In order to strengthen the protection of colored patterns in history architectures, it is necessary to monitor the status quo of them.

This work introduces a monitoring method of color decaying for colored patterns in architecture: set up the illuminants, adjust the illuminants, detect the color information and calculate the color difference. Based on the color difference by CIE DE2000 formula, the color decaying status of the pattern can be evaluated. The monitoring period should be at least three months.

About four years’ work has been carried out for colored patterns in the Long Corridor of the Summer Palace, and the color differences ΔE00 are about from 2 to 5, some can be over 9. In result, most colored patterns keep in good health condition. Color decaying happens every time and there are slight changes in most colored patterns. In 2nd quarter 2017, aware changes happened in nearly all the patterns. According to the color difference to evaluate the color decaying of the colored patterns, it is an efficient method to analyze the health status of colored patterns.

We investigate information systems (IS) projects as a liminal space ‘betwixt and between’ the status quo and the new environment, using a case study of the implementation of an enterprise system (ES). This liminal space provides a stabilizing platform whereupon the project team can develop new and potentially transformative IS. However, after a project team has completed its initial IS design for roll-out, this liminal space must be bridged to incorporate process-generated learning and new systems back into the organizational working environment. We demonstrate how this bridging involves negotiations that attempt to reconcile divergent perspectives by adopting a conciliatory or peacemaking attitude. As such, our analysis focuses on the IS project as a multi-phased process that includes the creation of a liminal space for the project team during development and on the negotiations that ensure the ES becomes a working IS in the post-implementation environment.

Cross-axis translational motion of a table on a machine tool is important in ultraprecision processes. Currently, conventional software datums that separate the cross-axismotion fromthe straightness profile of the straightedge by using multiple sensors and/or multiple arrangements are well-known. However, in large sampling numbers, the multiple sensor method tends to propagate random error. In this paper, a novel software datum for cross-axis motion measurement that can reduce the uncertainty due to the datum profile, pitch motion and random error is proposed. The proposed method consists of a weighted addition and inverse filtering. The suitable weight for the weighted addition yielding the least uncertainty is derived by an equation using standard deviations of the datum profile, pitch motion and random error of the sensors.

Objective: Changes in the status of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) in metastatic breast carcinomas are frequently reported. We examined the change in the status of biomarkers in metastatic breast carcinomas. Study Design: This study cohort was composed of 137 metastatic breast carcinomas (58 surgical and 79 cytological specimens) with existing primary tumors during a study period from 2013 to 2015. Results: The overall change rates in metastases were 9, 21 and 6% for ER, PR and HER2, respectively. All changes were from positive in the primary tumor to negative in the metastases. The ER change rate was significantly higher in the cytological than in the surgical metastases. Six of 14 cytological metastases with positive HER2 in primary tumors showed a change in HER2 status, including 5 fluid specimens and 1 fine-needle aspiration (FNA); the other 8 had no change in HER2 status, and included 7 FNAs and 1 fluid specimen. Conclusion: The significant percentage of cases with a change in biomarker status supports the recommendation by the College of American Pathologists to test breast biomarkers in metastases. HER2 status change was mostly identified in fluid specimens; however, the small sample size in our cohort and the fact that HER2 fluorescence in situ hybridization was not performed may warrant further studies.
