The research applied the quasy experiment method with a 2 x 2 factorial design. The results showed that (1) science process skills of student university who learned with modified free inquiry learning strategies are higher science process skills of student university who learned with guided inquiry learning strategies (2) There is interaction effect between strategies learning and problem solving ability to the science process skills. (3) science process skills of student university who learned with modified free inquiry learning strategies is higher than the students who learned with guided inquiry learning strategies in terms of high problem solving ability. and (4) science process skills student university learned with guided inquiry learning strategies are higher than students who learned with modified free inquiry learning strategies in terms of low problem solving ability. Based on the findings of that inquiry learning strategies effect science process skills of student university.

Kata Kunci: pembelajaran guided inquiry, pembelajaran problem solving,  prestasi belajar, penalaran matematika, dan sikap siswa terhadap matematika Comparison of Effectiveness Between Guided Inquiry Learning Approach and Problem Solving on Learning Achievement Probability, Reasoning Ability and Attitude Toward Mathematics AbstractThis study aimed to describe the effectiveness of guided inquiry learning and problem solving, as well as those learning a second difference is in terms of achievement of learning opportunities, reasoning ability of students, and students' attitudes toward mathematics. This research is a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest nonequivalent comparison-group design. The population in this study were all students of Class XI SMAN 2 Baubau to be grouped as much as 10 classes. The sample in this study were two randomly selected classes. To determine the effectiveness of study used a test of one sample t-test; to determine differences in the effectiveness of using test MANOVA (multivariate tests); to know which one is more effective learning using independent sample t-test test. The results of this study are: (1) guided inquiry approach to learning and teaching problem solving each effective in terms of achievement of learning, reasoning ability of students, and students' attitudes toward mathematics, (2) guided inquiry learning approach is as effective as the learning problem solving in terms of achievement learning and students 'attitudes toward mathematics, and 3) guided inquiry learning approach is more effective than learning problem solving in terms of students' mathematical reasoning abilities. Keywords: guided inquiry learning, problem solving learning, academic achievement, mathematical reasoning, and students' attitudes toward mathematics

Abstract. This research aims to see the effectiveness of using Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) toward problem solving ability of students. This research was conducted due to lack of information of students’ ability in solving the problem, especially students of Science Education Department (IPA) when they were given an innovative learning such POGIL. Problem solving ability is an ability that can be trained in learning process which is closely related to master the concept by students. Mix method is used in this research. The subject of this research is students of Science Education Department FKIP ULM batch 2015. To collect the data, it used quantitative data of pre-test and post-test of the ability of problem solving and qualitative data, observation and interview. The result of this research shows that the ability of students in solving the problem has been significantly increased by using POGIL.  Keywords: Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL), problem solving, science education  Abstrak.

[THE EFFECT OF PROCESS-ORIENTED GUIDED-INQUIRY LEARNING (POGIL) TOWARD STUDENTS’ PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS]. The aim of this research is to investigate the different impacts of Process-Oriented Guided-Inquiry Learning (POGIL) and verification as a learning approach at senior high school students’ problem solving ability grade XI program IPA on acid-base topic. The research design used was quasi experimental. Hypothesis testing uses a t-test with 5% significance utilizing SPSS 21 program for windows. Results show that (1) there is a significant difference in students’ problem solving ability that is taught by POGIL approach and verification, and (2) students that are taught by POGIL approach give better answer’s pattern than students that are taught by verification approach. According to the research result, POGIL could be well promoted learning model to developing problem solving skill on acid-base topics. This result does imply to the next similar research that appropriate exploration of problem solving ability on another contextual chemistry topic such as rate of reaction, chemical equilibrium, and colligative properties. Exploration about metacognition involvement on POGIL also the other implication of this research result that can be deeply analyzed.
