The ability in to speak English in the public place being a scourge for students due to minimize the anxiety because of lack of speaking practice in their life, so that an effective media is needed to decrease the students’ anxiety in speaking by making video blog (VLOG) . The aims of this study are to minimize students’ anxiety in public speaking that focus on descriptive text teaching materials, and to improve students’ speaking skills in the context of description through VLOG media. The subjects in this study is the student of DIII Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic of Harapan Bersama Tegal with a qualitative descriptive research approach by using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method in two cycles, each of the cycle consists of four stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The data collection method in this study is to use a questionnaire, interview, observation, and reflection in accordance with the Action Research guidelines. The finding showed that the average of pre test score was only 52.5, after treating by video blog it was improved to 74.5 in cycle 1, then it improved more in cycle 2 and reached 87.3. So, it improved 34.8 point from pre test to the post test. In line with the data, designing video blog is effective to minimize students’ anxiety in teaching spoken descriptive test and it works to improve the students speaking skill. Moreover, students also get their own motivation to speak confidently in the public place. Some aspects that improved are fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary items and content. As the final result, it can be inferred that making video blog minimize students’ anxiety in speaking and it improves students’ speaking performance.

Public speaking is very important for nursing students because they are expected to become good health promotors in the future, such skills are therefore extremely helpful for career development prospects, though the act of public speaking can be daunting. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of public speaking attractive training on Public Speaking Anxiety (PSA). The design of this research is pre-experimental, with one group pre- and post-test. The population of this study is comprised of 20 nursing students who were members of the College Collaboration Organization. The total sampling technique was used. Training focused on personal strength and public delivery. Pre- and post-training were measured using the Personal Report of Public Speaking Anxiety (PRPSA), instrument modified from McCroskey, J. C. (2013). Generally, there was a marked a decrease in the level anxiety displayed by participants. This study showed that public speaking training had a positive impact on reducing PSA.   Keywords: Public Speaking, Attractive training, Anxiety, Nursing Students.

Preparation of oral presentation is one of the materials in the Indonesian language course. This material is a speaking skill material. This material helps students prepare for public speaking, such as providing health education to the public. The purpose of this study was to describe the preparation of experience-based oral presentation preparation materials. This research method uses qualitative research methods with data sources in the form of a book by Gorys Keraf entitled composition published by Nusa Indah and a book by Trianto entitled Designing an innovative-progressive learning model published by Kencana Prenada Media Group. The data in this study are the words, sentences or paragraphs in the two books. The data collection technique used by researchers was document study by collecting documents related to the preparation of materials and materials for oral presentation preparation. Meanwhile, for data analysis techniques, what the researchers did were: (1) data reduction. (2) displaying data by compiling relevant data, (3) drawing conclusions to get a meaning that scattered symptoms have deep meaning. The results of this study indicate that the preparation of oral presentation preparation materials using experience-based media produces a material concept map which in its presentation can be given examples through experience-based media. The existence of making a concept map for the preparation of oral presentation material makes the flow of oral presentation preparation clear and easy to understand, that in preparation for oral presentation there are three main components that must be done, namely 1) examining the problem where this point includes determining the intent, analyzing the listener and the situation, and selecting and narrowing the topic, 2) compiling a description. This point includes gathering material, drawing up a description outline, and describing it in detail, and 3) conducting an exercise. Powerful words are the key words at this point, that the speaker's knowledge of the topic and the needs of the listener, being able to position himself to be closer to the listener, speaking according to facts and speaking honestly, and having the same line of thought as the listener are components that must be mastered by the speaker. , so that the material conveyed to listeners really hits and impresses.

In this case study, undergraduate students presented physics concepts to patrons at a planetarium. This created an early opportunity for these pre-professionals to practice the process skill of oral communication to a lay audience. The case study resulted from working with students participating in a grant called the da Vinci project. It reports on a situated experience pre-engineering and calculus-based physics students had working with their professor to create a brochure and present a physics concept to patrons visiting a public planetarium. Working closely with their professor, students were able to use this required professional skill in a real world (situated) context. This opportunity helped bridge the gap between these pre-professionals’ experiences in training and in their careers in STEM fields. Thirty students attending a two-year college in the Southwestern US self-selected to participate in the project. Each student participant built a kit-based model of a machine, designed an informational flyer aligned to state K-12 physical science standards, and presented informally to the public visiting a planetarium. Data were collected from the students via written reflections before and after the presentation and from email correspondence with their professor. Qualitative analyses of these reflections assessed the students’ progress toward a finished presentation. Results suggest that obstacles to public speaking fluency come from the fear of making mistakes or giving out misinformation. Opportunities to engage in informal public speaking helped overcome these obstacles. Students demonstrated increased confidence in their ability to share their knowledge with the public after undergoing guided informal speaking practice. The opportunity for students to practice public speaking during their undergraduate training can increase confidence and better prepare them for a career.

The collaboration of technology and media can have positive effects on teaching and learning. In modern teaching traditions, teachers must include technology into their teaching and must be able to select a suitable media so they can deliver lessons in the classroom effectively and can achieve the learning goal. This study is going to explore and elaborate the effectiveness of incorporating technology in learning process by using a media to get more engaging learning situation and to know its impacts to the students’ learning achievements, especially to their fluency and public speaking skill. To be specific, this study is trying to implement Video Blog (Vlog) as learning media in English speaking subject. The results of the observation show that, training students’ fluency and public speaking by implementing Vlog as learning media give positive impacts to the students. Vlog increases students’ encouragement in speaking. Vlog can provide fun and enjoyable learning process and it can build confidence.

Natural history collections are essential for understanding the world’s biodiversity and drive research in taxonomy, systematics, ecology and biosecurity. One of the biggest challenges faced is the decline of new taxonomists and public interest in collections-based research, which is alarming considering that an estimated 70% of the world’s species are yet to be formally described. Science communication combines public relations with the dissemination of scientific knowledge and offers many benefits to promoting natural history collections to a wide audience. For example, social media has revolutionised the way collections and their staff communicate with the public in real time, and can attract more visitors to collection exhibits and new students interested in natural history. Although not everyone is born a natural science communicator, institutions can encourage and provide training for their staff to become engaging spokespeople skilled in social media and public speaking, including television, radio and/or print media. By embracing science communication, natural history collections can influence their target audiences in a positive and meaningful way, raise the profile of their institution, encourage respect for biodiversity, promote their events and research outputs, seek philanthropic donations, connect with other researchers or industry leaders, and most importantly, inspire the next generation of natural historians.

The purpose of this study was to assess the degree to which sheltered versus unsheltered contexts of introductory communication courses impact communication skill development and overall learning outcomes for international students. Specifically, this study examined the following outcome variables: public speaking anxiety, engagement, communication mindset, communication efficacy, and student performance to investigate whether it is beneficial to sheltered international students in introductory courses. Results showed that there was no significant difference between groups for the public speaking anxiety, student engagement, or overall course performance, except for the final group presentation performance. However, there was a significant interaction effect for communication mindset and communication efficacy; students in sheltered sections saw increases in these outcomes over the course of the semester, while unsheltered students experienced the opposite.
