The Sierra Leone local council is charged with the responsibilities to govern and look over the welfare of its citizens in its localities but has been faced with a lot of challenges ranging from limited finance, insufficient staff capacity, insufficient material resources, mobility, and little compliance from bigger MDAs in terms of control. Hence has raised effectiveness issues in council operations. With the implementation of participatory budgeting in Port, Loko District Council calls for a study with the objective to investigate the effectiveness and linearity of participatory budgeting in the achievement of community development goals in the Port Loko District Council. Purposive sampling was done and administered a survey questionnaire to 420 respondents in the Port Loko District. Simple linear regression and correlational tests were used to interpret and analyze the primary data using SPSS 16.0 software package. The data analyses found out that there was a mean agreement rate of 1.95, which indicated that the respondents agreed that participatory budgeting was effective. The hypothesis test, if the effectiveness of participatory budgeting in Port Loko District Council has an impact on the achievement of community development goals, the major finding in this research is that effectiveness of participatory budgeting significantly affects the achievement of community development goals in the council district and concludes that participatory budgeting implemented in the Port Loko District Council in relation to the achievement of community development goals is effective, has a positive relationship and a strong correlation between them.

The main purpose of this research is to examine the effects of sustainable tourism on sustainable community development in coastal regions in the UK. This research also seeks to investigate the extent of sustainable tourism practices and the extent of sustainable community development practices in the coastal regions in the UK.The study was conducted by deductive approach cross sectional method following quantitative techniques. The respondents are selected from hotels, restaurants, travel agencies who are operating their business activities in the coastal regions, and the local council of the coastal regions. The questionnaires survey was used to collect primary data from the respondents. The sample of 160 respondents was selected by using convenience sampling technique or on the basis of their availability and interest. The results indicate that sustainable tourism and sustainable community development are positively and significantly correlated with each other. Similarly, regression analysis shows that sustainable tourism has significant effects on sustainable community development as β = 0.804, and P = 0.000 which is less than 0.05. Also, there is a high level of sustainable tourism and sustainable community development practices in the coastal regions in the UK.Int. J. Soc. Sci. Manage. Vol-3, issue-1: 47-59

This research originated from the observations of researchers when doing the experience of the industrial field in Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang, ehere there are still problems with the work dicipline of employees and the leadership of the general manager. This study aims to determine the effect of general manager leadership on employee work dicipline in Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang This type of research is quantitative with associative causal method. The study population was Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang employees totaling 54 people. The sampling technique in this study uses a non-probability sampling technique, while the type of non-probability used is proportionte stratified random sampling. The data in this study uses primary data for both variables obtained dirctly from employees through a questionnaire compiled based on the likert scale which has been tested for validity an reliability. data analysis technique in this study used regression test with the help of SPSS version 24.00 The results of the study show that: (1) the leadership of the general manager is in the good category of 50%. (2) the work dicipline is in the good category of 50%. (3) the results of the simple linear regression hypothesis test obtained F 15.605 with sig 0,000<0,05. Then the general manager leadership variable can explain the varible work dicipline of employees at 23,1% and 76,9% influenced by other factors. Obtained t value of 3.950 with traf sig 0,000<0,05. Then there is a significant influence between the two variabels. Then obtained a lnear regression coefficient of 0,517 with a sig value of 0,000<0,05 . meaning that every increase in a general manager leadership unit will increase 0.517 work dicipline of Rocky Plaza Hotel Padang.

Community empowerment is a form of development which directly involves the community. In community empowerment program, the position of the community is as program consumer but as program producer instead. Community empowerment aims to achieve community independence and welfare. Zakat is a subsystem which can support community empowerment program. It’s consistent with the objective of zakat, which is material and spiritual wellbeing. To encourage the success of the program, there should be support from various parties, including companion and social capital supports. The purpose of the present study was determining the direct effects of companion and social capital on participant of zakat recipient and its impact of economic performance of zakat-receiving micro businessman. The present study used primary data by involving 72 zakat-receiving micro businesspeople (mustahik businesspeople) in Wonosari Sub-district, Gunung Kidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The research instrument was questionnaire with likert-5 scale which has high reliability and validity based on Cronbah Alpha and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin values. The empirical model was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).The result of hypothesis test shows that companion and social capital affected the participation of zakat recipient, and the participation of zakat recipient affected the economic performance of zakat-receiving micro businessman.

Chapter 8 focuses on threats to construct validity arising from the left-hand side time series and the right-hand side intervention model. Construct validity is limited to questions of whether an observed effect can be generalized to alternative cause and effect measures. The “talking out” self-injurious behavior time series, shown in Chapter 5, are examples of primary data. Researchers often have no choice but to use secondary data that were collected by third parties for purposes unrelated to any hypothesis test. Even in those less-than-ideal instances, however, an optimal time series can be constructed by limiting the time frame and otherwise paying attention to regime changes. Threats to construct validity that arise from the right-hand side intervention model, such as fuzzy or unclear onset and responses, are controlled by paying close attention to the underlying theory. Even a minimal theory should specify the onset and duration of an impact.

Objective - The objective of this paper is to examine the effect of audit firm tenure and audit firm size on audit quality. This study applies explanatory research in which questionnaire and interviews serve as the primary data. The population of this study is public accounting firms which are registered in the Indonesian capital market. Methodology/Technique - The study presents a survey using professional auditors. The multiple regression methode is used to conduct an hypothesis test of the effect of audit firm tenure and audit firm size on audit quality. Findings - The result of study depicted that audit firm tenure has no significant influence on the audit quality, while the audit firm size has significant influence on the audit quality. Audit quality deteriorate, when the length of the audit firm client engagement is longer. No particular concern to audit firm size since the big audit firm size has extensive training for their staffs and sufficient system in place. Novelty - The study contributes to auditing literature in the areas of audit quality. The length of the audit firm client relationship and audit firm size always rise the contradiction to the audit quality. The audit firm tenure and audit firm size support previous study, additional insight are gained toward in the elections of the audit firm that serves professional services in capital markets. Type of Paper - Empirical Keywords: Audit Firm Tenure; Audit Firm Size; Audit Quality; Auditor

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate effectiveness of strategic sourcing for improving firm’s performance. Design/Methodology/Approach A cross-sectional approach was adopted with primary data collected. The data yielded a response rate of 375 from electricity firms in Kenya. The data collected were put through rigorous statistical analysis to test content validity as well as reliability. Further, simple linear regression model was used to test relationships between strategic sourcing and firm’s performance. Findings The finding suggests that a successful implementation of strategic sourcing improves firm’s performance through adoption of multiple sourcing strategies as well as maintaining manageable supply base. Further, the paper reveals that wrong choice of suppliers can negatively compromise the quality of products and services of the firm. Research limitations/implications Strategic sourcing is complex and very sensitive issue. While the study show the effect is generally accepted strategic sourcing strategies for improving firm’s performance, not all strategic sourcing strategies are covered in the study. Also, the study can be carried on in other sector in order refine the study findings. Originality/Value The study provides an empirical analysis on the strategic sourcing strategies and their effect on firm’s performance. Again the study seeks to provide a research agenda which meets the needs of today’s business sourcing requirements.
