Abstract: We have often heard teachers who teach Mathematics in the Early Years of Elementary School complain that, in their higher education, mathematics and its teaching have been relegated to the background. This led us to analyze what mathematical contents are present in the curricular matrix of pedagogy courses offered in the state of Tocantins. This is a documentary study with a qualitative methodological perspective, substantiated by the dialogue with the literature and analysis of the curricular matrix of the courses. The results indicate weaknesses in the process of teaching mathematics in pedagogy courses due to the result that only 2% to 5.75% of the total hourly load of the course is destined to the teaching process of this science. The study indicates that factors such as reduced workload, lack of mathematical knowledge of students, combined with eminently methodological bias, the training of these professionals is compromised and, when they act in teaching, they feel limited in their pedagogical action. Keywords: Education; Mathematics Teaching; Curricular matrix; Pedagogy course.

Elementary school teachers in Indonesia are required to master many subjects to be taught to their students. It is undeniable that the teachers’ mastery of knowledge (material) in some subjects inadequate. Therefore, it is worth to argue that there was a misconception in mathematics teaching in elementary schools. This research was designed using a qualitative approach. The participants of this study were 30 elementary school teachers in Semarang city area, Central Java province, Indonesia. The research data were obtained through questionnaires, and interviews. The purpose of the study was to discuss the types and causes of the misconception of mathematics teaching in elementary schools. Alternative solutions were also presented to problem-solving so that misconceptions do not occur anymore in mathematics teaching. The findings show that, teachers evenly experience types of misconceptions: (1) pre-conception, (2) under-generalization, (3) over-generalization, (4) modelling error, (5) prototyping error; and (6) process-object error in teaching mathematics in elementary schools. Some misconceptions have taken root and are difficult to remove, called "ontological misconceptions" because of teachers' years of belief that the knowledge they received was true when in fact it was not quite right.

The present study aims to analyse some special errors in mathematical reasoning concerning a property of the relation “equivalence by dissection” in synthetic geometry (pure geometry). Although this property is of great importance it is regarded as obviousness and its problematic nature is usually concealed in mathematics teaching. This is deeply rooted in the heritage of greek mathematics and proves to be an obstacle to mathematical education. This subject belongs to a particularity of the mathematical background of teaching mathematics; nevertheless, this study includes some ideas both on other (similar) particularities and from different points of view. Classification: A30, B50, B60, CD30, D20, D30, E40. Keywords: Synthetic geometry, measure geometry, equivalence by dissection, mathematical background of mathematical instruction.
