THE USE OF HYBRID OR NANOCOMPOSITE MATERIALS AS STEEL ANTICORROSIVE COATINGS. The search had as the goal to present and reflect the hybrid materials as an alternative for anticorrosive coatings of metallic surfaces, such as steel. For comparison purposes, different types of anti-corrosion coatings capable of protecting metallic surfaces, such as steel, from oxidation action were presented. Steel is a metallic material widely used by industry in different types of segments, and its corrosion is a pathology responsible for its functional loss, causing losses in its use. Through a qualitative, bibliographic and exploratory research, based on academic works, it was presented that hybrid materials or nanocomposites prove to be efficient as anticorrosive coatings capable of protecting steel against oxidation.

Atrazine (ATZ) is an herbicide which is applied to the soil, and its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of photosynthesis. One of its main functions is to control the appearance of weeds in crops, primarily in corn, sorghum, sugar cane, and wheat; however, it is very toxic for numerous species, including humans. Therefore, this work deals with the adsorption of ATZ from aqueous solutions using nanocomposite materials, synthesized with two different types of organo-modified clays. Those were obtained by the free radical polymerization of 4-vinylpyridine (4VP) and acrylamide (AAm) in different stoichiometric ratios, using tetrabutylphosphonium persulfate (TBPPS) as a radical initiator and N,N′-methylenebisacrylamide (BIS) as cross-linking agent. The structural, morphological, and textural characteristics of clays, copolymers, and nanocomposites were determined through different analytical and instrumental techniques, i.e., X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Adsorption kinetics experiments of ATZ were determined with the modified and synthesized materials, and the effect of the ratio between 4VP and AAm moieties on the removal capacities of the obtained nanocomposites was evaluated. Finally, from these sets of experiments, it was demonstrated that the synthesized nanocomposites with higher molar fractions of 4VP obtained the highest removal percentages of ATZ.

The purpose of this study is to classify the networks according to functions they performed, especially scrutinize their structures. The research concentrates on the influence of these functional networks on the internationalization process of small and medium sized companies (SME) in developing countries. What are the different types of support being provided by network partners? What is the structure of the existing network? The research part is inductive, qualitative and based on case study. The study’s findings illustrate the subtleties of how various network partners interact with entrepreneurs to penetrate, integrate and extend their international markets. Networks can help entrepreneurs expose themselves to new opportunities, obtain knowledge, learn from experiences, and benefit from the synergistic effect of pooled resources. Another contribution of this paper is that it identifies structures of the functional networks, till date networks are classified on the basis of extent of support they provide, not on what support they provide, thus advancing the literature.

In the automotive and aerospace industries, cost and overall weight are major opponents that are affecting design opportunities. Research to investigate possible cost and weight reduction methods is continuously being performed focusing especially on the hybrid materials being used to manufacture parts. Currently, different types of metals with polymers are being chosen to make punched parts, but the deformation of the materials has not been fully investigated. The way that the material deforms will dictate the material properties held by the subsequent parts. Without knowing these material properties, it is difficult to prevent manufacturing problems during various processes. One major problem encountered when forming solid metal parts is that when the die is removed, the deformed parts change shape due to the elastic properties of the material. This shape change is called springback. This undesirable result causes the parts to be the incorrect shape and to not align correctly during assembly. One possible solution would be to investigate the material properties of trilayer hybrid materials consisting of metal and composite layers adjoined by adhesive. Trilayer channels will be tested by punching and measuring the resulting springback. Two different trilayer design setups will be tested, composite metal composite sandwich and metal composite metal sandwich, and will be compared with the deformation in a single layer metal channel. The outcome of these tests will determine which trilayer design will have the greatest success in reducing the undesirable springback effects.

ABSTRACTOctafunctionalized silsesquioxanes [(RsiO1.5)8, cubes] offer potential as rigid, hard nanoplatforms to which a variety of organofunctional groups can be appended. Crosslinking these groups leads to novel organic/inorganic nanocomposites that consist primarily of interfacial interactions. These materials can be 100% interphase. We present efforts to develop nanocomposite materials that consist of both continuous and discontinuous organic/inorganic phases. We then discuss methods of probing the properties of these materials.

This article tries to highlight the effects of the perceived value on satisfaction, and determines, among the components of the value, the major sources of shopping behavior. This leads us to a reflection in order to promote in one hand, the concept of perceived value among the mass-market retailing and on the other hand, to define the reasons for attendance, stimulation and consumer’s escape inside the point of sale. For this purpose, our exploratory research highlights the typology of value of Holbrook (1994, 1999). Relying on series of interviews with customers of large retail in the city of Agadir, the point of sale is no longer considered as a simple place of purchase. It shows different types of value, such as utilitarian values, hedonist values and social values. Our results are able to validate this idea and therefore tend to position the point of sale as a key place for the formulation of marketing strategies of retail chains and thus to be seen as a creator of value.

This exploratory research was based on bibliographic and documentary sources and aimed to address the performance of the three branches regarding the criminalization of LGBTphobia. These people are stigmatized because of their sexual orientation and gender identity, since they differ from the heteronormativity still prevailing in society, which has led them to suffer more and more different types of violence, including physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological aggressions, to which they are constantly subjected. The lack of official data, beforehand, shows the real neglect of the public authority towards the rights and guarantees of this minority, in addition to the lack of effective public policies and non-investigation and non-judgment of crimes commonly poignant, which reveal true state violence. It was found that few actions by the executive branch go beyond the planning stage and that the endless discussions by the legislative can be described as true inertia, resulting in numerous quarrels in the judiciary branch, in which the LGBT community has achieved progress in denouncing human rights violations and in the relentless search for overcoming discrimination.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To explore the meaning of work, analyzing and comparing how it is experienced by workers who are subject to different employment relationships. Originality/value: The research is important because it advances in the discussion about the flexibilization of labor relations and its impact on how professionals experience and attribute meaning to their work. In addition, we found a gap in empirical research relating to the meaning of work and different types of employment relationships. Design/methodology/approach: We conducted qualitative and exploratory research with professors from the same higher education institution that work under different employment relationships. Forty-five professors participated in the study, whose reports were submitted to discourse analysis. Findings: Initially, the results reinforced the six categories proposed by Morin (2001): work that 1. generates results; 2. is intrinsically satisfactory; 3. morally acceptable; 4. source of satisfactory relationships; 5. guarantees security and autonomy, and 6. keeps the person occupied. In addition, three new categories associated with the professors' work have been identified: "work as a calling", "work as identity construction", and "work as a masochistic practice". Our results point to the complexity of maintaining professionals working side by side but under different employment relationships. Resentment, anguish, and frustration were some of the feelings that we consider to be associated with this reality, and represent a challenge to be faced by organizations.

This article reflects on the use of, and interactions between, embroidery and reed weaving as methods in anthropological fieldwork with Malagasy craftswomen. The research explores changes in craft methodologies as weavers faced with declining natural resources have shifted to practising embroidery instead. Engagement with the making process was central to the research design, through an apprenticeship in reed weaving and participant observation using both crafts. Reflection on this approach suggests that the researcher’s pre-existing skills affected the role that each craft took in the research, shaping distinct modes of interaction and generating different types of knowledge. Research activities using weaving, in which the researcher was seen as ‘unskilled’, tended to generate technical, practical and logistical knowledge. Activities using embroidery, in which the researcher was already experienced and seen as a ‘skilled’ practitioner, shaped more exploratory research spaces in which more personal conversations emerged. This article discusses ways that the two processes were used to complement each other and suggests that combining both ‘skilled’ and ‘unskilled’ positions could help to overcome some of the challenges of cross-cultural craft research.

Perceived risk is known to be an important determinant of consumer behaviour. However, prior research has focussed on goods rather than services. The purpose of this exploratory research was to identify any differences between goods and services in terms of perceived risk and risk reduction strategies. Two new components of risk, namely specification risk and the risk of loss of control, were identified as being specifically associated with services. Empirical evidence gathered leads to the conclusion that as far as risk is concerned, a simple classification of products as goods or services is inadequate: an additional hybrid class comprising both goods and services is also necessary. These three categories of product are associated with different types of perceived ask. Also, risk reduction strategies were found to be dependent on product rather than on the type of risk.
