In Southern Mali, forestry levies are increasing year by year while the supply of timber is drastically diminishing in quantity and quality. This study aims at investigating wood provisioning, describing its use and importance of forestry production within five individual areas of a rural municipality and thus proposing new perspectives in the field of research and development.

ABSTRACT One hundred years after the first gold discoveries in the Abitibi subprovince, the Archean James Bay region to the north is experiencing a major exploration boom. Poor geologic coverage in this part of the northeastern Superior province has hindered the application of traditional Abitibi exploration criteria such as crustal-scale faults and “Timiskaming-type” sedimentary rocks. New area selection criteria are needed for successful greenfield exploration in this frontier region, and the use of steep metamorphic gradients is presented as a possible alternative. The statistical robustness of the metamorphic gradient area selection criterion was confirmed by using the curve of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) to estimate the correlation between metamorphic fronts and the distribution of known Abitibi orogenic gold producers. The criterion was then applied to the James Bay region during a first-pass craton-scale exploration program. This was part of the strategy that led to the discovery of the Eleonore multimillion-ounce gold deposit in 2004.

The total area of the forest fund of Ukraine is 10400000 hectares, of which 9600000 hectares are covered with forest vegetation. In total, 15.9 % of the country's area is covered by forests. This figure is growing: in 50 years the area of forests increased by 21 %, almost three times increased stock of wood – it is estimated within 2102 million cubic meters. But this is not enough. Today there are a number of problems connected with forestry, for example: mass destruction of forests, lack of forest development strategy, low level of forest resources use, lack of reliable information about the biomass condition, forest fires. According to the State Agency of Forest Resources of Ukraine, the volume of unauthorized felling has been steadily decreasing for a long time, during 2005-2010. However, already in 2011 it was 25,100 cubic meters, which is 2.2 thousand more than in the previous year, 2007. However, this statistic, too, is mostly about illegal logging by local people, so it reflects very small volumes. The largest number of poached logging is recorded in the Lviv region. For example, in 2018 in the region 12,047 cubic meters of wood were illegally cut, and the figures do not stand still. As a consequence, this situation over time can lead to environmental degradation, increased water and wind erosion, degradation of agricultural land. The forest industry is one of the promising industries in Ukraine, for which it is advisable to use the tools of geographic information systems that provide detailed and necessary information, which greatly simplifies the work in research, analysis and prediction of the dynamics of the forestry fund of Ukraine. With the help of geospatial analysis tools we open up new horizons in the development and organization of forestry production, control and management of forests at all levels. This is why in today's conditions the introduction of geoinformation technologies can not only save money, but also save large areas of the forest fund and hundreds of diligent villages, settlements and cities. The events that took place in April 2020 showed that the lack of active monitoring of burning areas has painful consequences. The fire destroyed almost 40 houses in the resettled villages, Lichmans Srednyaya Rudnya, Nizhnyaya Rudnya and Verkhnyaya Rudnya, 45 buildings were saved, about 5 % of the protected area, 11500 hectares in the southwestern part of the Chernobyl Reserve were affected. These villages in Zhytomyr region were resettled after Chernobyl. More than 2000 people and 120 units of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fireі.

O objetivo do artigo é analisar os empregos diretos e os acidentes de trabalho ocorridos na produção florestal, em plantadas, nativas e atividades de apoio. Para cada atividade, no período de 2006 a 2014, foi contabilizado o número de empregos diretos, acidentes totais, registrados, típicos, de trajeto e doenças do trabalho e os acidentes não registrados. Foram ajustados modelos de tendência para cálculo das taxas de crescimento anual dos empregos diretos e dos acidentes de trabalho. Foi utilizada a correlação linear de Pearson para explicar a relação entre o número de empregos diretos e os acidentes da produção florestal. O número de empregos diretos gerados na produção de plantadas e nativas aumentou nos últimos 8 anos. Apenas para o setor de atividades de apoio decresceu o quadro de trabalhadores. Dentre os acidentes contabilizados, as plantadas apresentaram, em média, o maior número de acidentes, seguidos pelas atividades de apoio e produção de nativas. Muitos acidentes ocorridos não são comunicados, dando prejuízos aos acidentados quanto à reivindicação de seus direitos. Dos acidentes registrados o principal tipo corresponde ao acidente típico. Fortes correlações foram encontradas entre os empregos diretos e os acidentes totais para as florestas plantadas e atividades de apoio.Palavras-chave: empregos diretos; acidentes; cadeia produtiva. FOREST PRODUCTION WORK SAFETY ABSTRACT: The objective of this paper is to analyze the direct employment and work accidents that occurred in forest production, in plantations, native and support activities. For each activity, in the period from 2006 to 2014, the number of direct jobs, total, registered, typical, commuting and work-related accidents and unrecorded accidents were recorded. Trend models were calculated for the calculation of the annual growth rates of direct jobs and work accidents. Pearson's linear correlation was used to explain the relationship between the number of direct jobs and the accidents of forestry production. The number of direct jobs generated in plantation and native production has increased over the past 8 years. Only for the sector of support activities has the workforce declined. Among the accidents recorded, the planted had, on average, the largest number of accidents, followed by activities of support and production of natives. Many accidents occurred are not communicated, giving damage to the injured in claiming their rights. Of the accidents recorded the main type corresponds to the typical accident. Strong correlations were found between direct jobs and total accidents for planted forests and support activities.Keywords: direct jobs; accidents; productive chain.

The purpose of the research, the results of which are presented in this article, is to analyze the scientific description of the properties of weak bearing movement surfaces of forest machines. The analysis has showed that universal mathematical models of the wheel propeller interaction with soil are based on the provisions of soil mechanics. This approach has been tested in the science of forestry production. It is successfully used by modern domestic and foreign researchers. However, with regard to the development and implementation of a mathematical description of interaction of ultra-low pressure wheeled mover (for example, in all-terrain wheeled vehicle) with supporting surfaces, it is necessary to take into account the ratio of the sides of the mover’s contact spot with the soil, since: mover pressure on the ground is defined as the partial load of a single mover and the area contact spots; the distribution of compressive stress over the depth of the soil mass depends on the ratio of the length and width of the contact spot; the bearing capacity characterizing the resistance to shear of the soil layers depends not only on its physical and mechanical properties, but also on the parameters of the contact spot, which is taken into account by special correction factors, the values of which depend on the aspect ratio of the contact spot. Soil rheology is considered to take into account the number of passes of a wheeled all-terrain vehicle along the route and its speed. One of the characteristics of the impact of the mover is exposure time. Value of the length of the contact spot is also used when determining the impact time of the mover on the soil.

Operational research (OR) is a powerful tool for decision-making in optimizing forestry production planning. Thus, the objective of this study is to use the OR to solve forest regulation problems in a natural forest of Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol) Kuntze. The proposal for better management regime for the forest consisted in the elaboration of two OR problems using integer linear programming (ILP). I – the first aiming to maximize income for each regime; and the II – second aiming to define the best management alternative for three values of the De Liocourt q quotient of 1.1; 1.3 and 1.5, residual basal areas of 10.0, 12.0 and 14.0 m2.ha-1 and cutting cycles of 20, 25 and 30 years, creating thus 27 management scenarios. Despite the application of cutting cycles of 20, 25 and 30 years, the management alternative that best uses the resources and maximizes the income for this area of 84 ha, in the municipality of Lages, SC, is “q” = 1.3 with residual basal area of 12 m2.ha-1 for all cutting cycles. The removal of these trees in the forest will contribute to the maintenance of a future diametric structure, natural regeneration, species conservation and tree increment rate, as well as the maintenance of resources of the forest ecosystem.

This paper presents the issue of the use of forest and hunting resources in Serbia, with special emphasis on their sustainability. The use of modern technological solutions in terms of sustainable use of forest and hunting resources should be seen through an analysis and evaluation of environmental impacts. The existing machinery used in Serbian forestry cannot respond to the current demands of forestry production. However, the current unfavourable conditions can be significantly improved with appropriate measures. The planning of a network of roads including a number of factors that directly and indirectly affect sustainable use is of great importance for the development of forestry and hunting. Wood biomass in Serbian forests should be used in the manner and to the extent that ensures the sustainability of ecosystems and the production of large quantities of energy. In recent years, non-timber forest products have gained importance, so that the income generated from their use is growing. The impact of newly adopted laws and bylaws in the field of forestry, hunting and the protection of nature and environment will depend primarily on their application, control, execution and possible amendments and adjustments.
