Doped and undoped titanium dioxide films have been deposited on indium tin oxide glass using the sol-gel technique. The percentage of rutile in the prepared TiO2, calcined at 823 K and determined by X-ray diffraction, was 23% compared to 24% of rutile in P25-TiO2. Cerium doped TiO2 showed mainly the anatase phase, as characterised by both X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The electrochemical and photoelectrochemical properties of the films were studied by cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The (photo)electrochemical characteristics of the different films are reported and discussed.

AbstractNanocrystalline anatase titanium dioxide films were successfully produced on cotton fabrics from alkoxide solutions under ambient pressure using the low temperature sol-gel process. At a temperature as low as 40°C, only anatase phase formed from X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD). Field scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images show the formation of uniform continuous films of titanium dioxide on cotton fabrics. The self-cleaning properties of these fabrics were evaluated by measuring anti-bacterial activities and the decomposition of a colorant Neolan Blue 2G. The results indicated that anatase treated cotton fabrics exhibited good self-cleaning performance.

Sol gel indium tin oxide thin films (In: Sn = 90:10) were prepared by the sol-gel dipcoating process on silicon buffer substrate. The precursor solution was prepared by mixing SnCl2.2H2O and InCl3 dissolved in ethanol and acetic acid. The crystalline structure and grain orientation of ITO films were determined by X-ray diffraction. The surface morphology of the films was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical transmission and reflectance spectra of the films were analyzed by using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The transport properties of majority charge carriers for these films were studied by Hall measurement. ITO thin film with electrical resistivity of 7.6 ×10-3 3.cm, Hall mobility of approximately 2 cm2(Vs)-1 and free carrier concentration of approximately 4.2 ×1020 cm-3 are obtained for films 100 nm thick films. The I-V curve measurement showed typical I-V characteristic behavior of sol gel ITO thin films.

In this study, TiO2nanopowder was synthesized via a sol-gel grinding method. The effects of TiO2precursor concentration of TiO2nanopowder were investigated. The TiO2nanopowder obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) for their structural properties. From the calculation of the crystallite size in XRD, the size of the nanoparticles obtained is 49.55 nm at the highest TiO2precursor concentration. In contrast, at the lower concentration of 0.4 molar give the cryatallite size of 12.84 nm. Further, XRD and Raman spectrum results confirmed the TiO2nanopowder obtain composed of only anatase phase. The FESEM micrographs of TiO2nanopowder also were discussed in this paper.

A sensitive benzimidazole derivative fluorescent sensor for nanoparticulate ZnO has been designed and synthesized. The nanocrystalline ZnO, Ag doped ZnO and Cu doped ZnO have been synthesised by sol-gel method and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-visible diffuse reflectance, photoluminescence and electrochemical impedance spectroscopies. The synthesized sensor emits fluorescence at 360 nm and this fluorescence is selectively enhanced by nanocrystalline ZnO. This technique is sensitive to detect and estimate ZnO at micro molar level. Impurities such as Ag and Cu do not hamper the sensitivity of this technique significantly. Keywords: Sensor, SEM, EDX, Impedance, Fluorescence

To improve the cycle performance of spinel LiMn2O4as the cathode of 4 V class lithium ion batteries, spinel were successfully prepared using the sol-gel method. The dependence of the physicochemical properties of the spinel LiCrxMn2-xO4(x=0,0.05,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4) powders powder has been extensively investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), charge-discharge test and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that as Mn is replaced by Cr, the initial capacity decreases, but the cycling performance improves due to stabilization of spinel structure. Of all, the LiCr0.2Mn1.8O4has best electrochemical performance, 107.6 mAhg-1discharge capacity, 96.1% of the retention after 50 cycles.

We report in this paper antibacterial activity of Ag-doped TiO2 and Ag-doped ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) under visible light irradiation synthesized by using a sol-gel method. Structural, morphological, and basic optical properties of these samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum, and UV-Vis reflectance. Room temperature X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that Ag-doped TiO2 has both rutile and anatase phases, but TiO2 NPs only have the anatase phase. In both ZnO and Ag-doped ZnO NPs, the hexagonal wurtzite structure was observed. The morphologies of TiO2 and ZnO were influenced by doping with Ag, as shown from the SEM images. EDX confirms that the samples are composed of Zn, Ti, Ag, and O elements. UV-Vis reflectance results show decreased band gap energy of Ag-doped TiO2 and Ag-doped ZnO NPs in comparison to that of TiO2 and ZnO. Pathogenic bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, were used to assess the antibacterial activity of the synthesized materials. The reduction in the viability of all the three bacteria to zero using Ag-doped ZnO occurred at 60 μg/mL of culture, while Ag-doped TiO2 showed zero viability at 80 μg/mL. Doping of Ag on ZnO and TiO2 plays a vital role in the increased antibacterial activity performance.

Abstract: The photocatalytic composite Fe doped AC/TiO2 has been prepared by sol-gel method. The prepared Fe doped AC/TiO2 composite were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).The SEM analysis showed that Fe and TiO2 were attached to the Activated Carbon surfaces. The X-Ray Diffraction data showed that Fe doped AC/TiO2 composite mostly contained anatase phase.

MXene/Ag2CrO4 nanocomposite was synthesized effectively by means of superficial low-cost co-precipitation technique in order to inspect its capacitive storage potential for supercapacitors. MXene was etched from MAX powder and Ag2CrO4 spinel was synthesized by an easy sol-gel scheme. X-Ray diffraction (XRD) revealed an addition in inter-planar spacing from 4.7 Å to 6.2 Å while Ag2CrO4 nanoparticles diffused in form of clusters over MXene layers that had been explored by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Energy dispersive X-Ray (EDX) demonstrated the elemental analysis. Raman spectroscopy opens the gap between bonding structure of as-synthesized nanocomposite. From photoluminence (PL) spectra the energy band gap value 3.86 eV was estimated. Electrode properties were characterized by applying electrochemical observations such as cyclic voltammetry along with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) for understanding redox mechanism and electron transfer rate constant Kapp. Additionally, this novel work will be an assessment to analyze the capacitive behavior of electrode in different electrolytes such as in acidic of 0.1 M H2SO4 has specific capacitance Csp = 525 F/g at 10 mVs−1 and much low value in basic of 1 M KOH electrolyte. This paper reflects the novel synthesis and applications of MXene/Ag2CrO4 nanocomposite electrode fabrication in energy storage devices such as supercapacitors.

In this research, TiO2 thin films were prepared using a simple sol-gel spin coating process. The films were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Energy Dispersive Ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Ultraviolet–visible Spectrophotometer in order to investigate the influence of different annealing temperatures to the structural and optical properties of TiO2. The surface morphology images from FE-SEM display a uniform layer of nanoparticles with a sample of 500 °C possess the most uniform and the visible spherical grain of TiO2 nanoparticles. EDX spectra confirm the presence of Ti and O elements in the samples. The structural properties from the XRD pattern demonstrate that the films are crystalline at a temperature of 500 and 600 °C and the peak (101) intensity was increased as the annealing temperature increased. They exist in the anatase phase at the preferred plane orientation of (101). The calculated crystallite size for 500 and 600 °C samples is 19.22 and 28.37 nm, respectively. The films also possessed excellent absorption in the ultraviolet (UV) region with optical band gap energy ranging from 3.32 to 3.43 eV. These results can be fundamental for the fabrication of a UV sensing device.

This paper report the effect of milling time on the structural properties of TiO2nanopowder prepared from sol-gel milling process. The synthesized TiO2nanopowders have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). XRD result reveals that the TiO2nanopowder in anatase phase is detected. The morphology of the TiO2nanopowder change obviously with the increase of the milling time. Further, FTIR results found the sharp peaks of Ti-O-Ti and Ti-O bonding at below 600 cm-1for all TiO2nanopowder.
