Method: this is a qualitative, exploratory-descriptive study of the type of land survey performed in an ICU of a Public Hospital of the Central Region of Portugal. Intentional non-probabilistic sampling is used, for convenience, with 24 health professionals. The data were collected through participant observation and semi-structured interview and analyzed with the support of Minayo's hermeneutic-dialectic reference and the WebQDA program. Results: five intimately interrelated categories emerged: lack of qualification for gerontogeriatric care; normalization of care practice; intense and exhausting work pace; disarticulation and conflicts in teamwork; and distant management of the ICU care practice. Conclusion: It has been shown that although the developments of integral care for the elderly, it is a path permeated by uncertainties, fears, institutional and personal limitations, it is not a utopia. New patterns of action, interaction, will and thought can be constructed to subsidize the interdependence between health professionals and guide to a differentiated practice committed to human dignity in ICU. Background: CaseSearch ‘My Learning’ e-learning modules were designed to remind clinicians and practitioners about the role of evidence in practice and demonstrate how to find relevant evidence to make a difference in clinical care. This study aims to describe the role of the modules and their uptake, and determine whether the modules influenced the learners' palliative care practice and whether the modules were easy to use. Method: Two sets of questions were designed to capture data to evaluate the modules. Findings: The modules supported the awareness and use of evidence by health professionals. The modules contribute to ongoing professional development for practitioners and can improve palliative care practice. Conclusion: It is possible to collect meaningful data that contributes to understanding who uses e-learning resources and how useful healthcare professionals find them.

Is fat a sin? Popular ‘knowledge’ about obesity which frames fat as an avoidable behavioural condition would certainly suggest it can be blamed on the fat person. Discourses of health reproduced within public policy and media reporting assist in the pathologization of fat bodies, insisting that fat is the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices. It is, however, not simply medical interpretations of fat that facilitate this moral discourse. Religion also provides an important source of moral judgment. This paper draws on my qualitative research inside a UK secular, commercial slimming group to consider how the Christian moral language of sin functions within this setting to construct a politics of choice that holds the dieter personally responsible for her fat. Interpreting weight loss and weight gain as a measure of moral character, this theological language assists in the operation of ‘normative conformity’, conforming women’s bodies to cultural knowledge about fat.
