At the end of 1971 the Government designated the extention of the Community Development Project to the planned total of twelve areas. The project was then described as ‘a national action-research experiment’ carried out in selected urban localities in order to discover ‘how far the social problems experienced by people in a local community can be better understood and resolved through closer co-ordination of all agencies in the social welfare field – central and local government and the voluntary organizations – together with the local people themselves’. There was a special emphasis placed on the importance of ‘citizen involvement and community self-help’, together with the expectation that ‘the lessons learned can be fed back into social policy, planning and administration, both at central and local government level’.

Companies working in the field of IT technologies, in most cases, implement a project management approach. A significant problem of the project management paradigm is the creation of the project team. The main criterion that determines the possibility of choosing a specialist for the project team is the level of his compliance with the required set of competencies. The task can be solved using the system analysis. Hierarchical decomposition of functions and criteria allows us to form a relative assessment of applicants to assign for the project. The article examined an example of decomposition of the system of functions, criteria and the results of assessing relative importance of functions for the implementation of a project in the support department of accounting programs of the company "En + Digital". In the process of project implementation, it becomes necessary to address the issue of operational distribution and work redistribution adjusting appointed executors. The article discusses the methods of redistributing functions using internal resource and possibilities of hiring third-party performers. The research determined the necessity to use informational assessment of team members work load while managing the project.

Project success is a multifactorial issue, including difficult to quantify, soft factors as well. Project management style, collaboration within the team, and the level of standardisation may have an essential influence on the deliverables, moreover, on corporate performance. A prescription answer is not achievable considering the individual characteristics of projects but finding best practices and critical factors help to improve the performance. This paper presents the results of a survey among product development project experts (n = 112) evaluating the relevance of some success factors and their practical experience in the field. The results show that keeping the project plan and managing long-term issues like lessons learned database or module database are the most critical factors of success. The analysis did not find patterns of the responses that confirms the need for unique management actions.

Teaching students project managements requires a hands-on approach. Incorporating project management concepts and processes into a student team Web development project adds a dimension that exposes students to the realities of effective Web development. This paper will describe the project management approach used in a Web development course in which students build complete Websites. Based upon the written evaluations included with the final project documentation, students feel this project is the most valuable learning experience of the course. Furthermore, a positive relationship is established between the actual Web development and effective project management processes. It is important for students to understand the triple constraints (scope, time, and cost) that must be balanced in business projects.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze service management practices within a project management context. Design/methodology/approach – This research supporting conceptual developments was both exploratory and qualitative in nature and utilized an in-depth case study of a major product development project. Findings – The conceptual framework developed is applied to empirical observations of product development project. Because there is an adequate fit with observations, elements of a service management approach appear to be viable in the description, managing, and control of projects. Research limitations/implications – Because the research was built on a case study, one has the limitations common with that approach. Conversely, case studies are acknowledged as useful in the identification of important variables in situations in which there is little control over events in a real-world context. Practical implications – Customer satisfaction is a requirement of project organizations, which is an inherent requisite of any service organization. Consequently, one turns to those elements in the practice of service management that lead to best management practices. Originality/value – This paper contributes with a practice-based understanding of how project management is based on integrated service practice.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present an account of a PAR project in a Thai community and to discuss the methodological implications of implementing a culturally responsive approach.Design/methodology/approachThe paper draws on the frameworks for PAR conducted as a community development project with rural Thai communities.FindingsThe paper reviews the use of a PAR approach as a culturally responsive approach and presents an experience of culturally situated research practice.Originality/valueThis paper encourages researchers conducting participatory inquiry to engage in deeper critical reflection on the implications of these methods in keeping with PAR's critical ontological, epistemological and axiological orientation.
