Penelitian hibah ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen pengukur hasil belajar yang nirbias dan terskala baku yang digunakan dalam beberapa mata pelajaran di SMA dan atau SMP. Jenis penelitian ini adalah research and development (R&D) yang dilakukan selama dua tahun. Hasil penelitian tahun pertama dihasilkan draf instrumen pengukur hasil belajar yang nirbias dan terskala baku. Tahun kedua, diseminasi draf instru-men pengukur hasil belajar yang dihasilkan tahun pertama ke beberapa guru Matematika SMA dan SMP di Provinsi DIY dan Jawa Tengah. Setelah direvisi, instrumen disosialisasikan ke be-berapa guru Matematika SMA dan SMP di Provinsi DIY, Jawa Tengah dan NTB.Kata kunci: instrumen yang nirbias dan terskala baku______________________________________________________________DEVELOPING UNBIASED AND STANDARDIZED INSTRUMENTS FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS IN HIGHSCHOOLS Abstract The purpose of this research is to develop unbiased and standardized instruments to measure student achievements that can be used for several subject matters in senior high schools and junior high schools. This was a research development study carried out in two years. The result of this research in the first year was a draft of an unbiased and standardized instuments for student achievements. In the second year, the draft of the unbiased and standardized instruments was disseminated to several mathematics teachers in senior high schools and junior high schools in the provinces of Yogyakarta Special Territory and Central Java. After the revision, the instruments were disseminated again to mathematics teachers in senior high schools and junior high schools in the provinces of Yogyakarta Special Territory, Central Java, and Nusa Tenggara Barat. This was a descriptive qualitative study which was done in 2017 at junior high schools in Semarang Central Java, Indonesia. This study focused on the teachers’ perception and teaching writing using word games. According to Chastain (1988) "writing is a basic communication skill and a unique tool in the process of second language learning" (p.244). The problem of this study was what are the teachers’ perception towards the word games used in enhancing the students’ writing skill? The sample of the research were 6 junior high schools’ students in Semarang central java, Indonesia. They were students of grade eighth at SMP N 8, SMPN 39, SMPN 36, SMP Institut Indonesia, SMP PGRI Semarang, and SMP Theresiana Semarang. A structured interview was kindly used as the instrument in collecting the data. The findings are; 1) Teaching writing is not easy and need to be creative to make students understand since they have to master the way hoe to organize a good paragraph or text. 2) Usually they do not apply any games in teaching writing since they got the material for granted. 3) Most of the teachers have known what word game is. Even they have applied it sometimes in speaking and vocabulary. 4) Teachers rarely do teaching English using word games by purpose. Especially teaching writing, teachers do not really pay attention on the current skill. 5) Even though some teachers do not really understand the way to use word games in the case of implementation but then, they are aware that students need a motivation in a space of teaching and learning process during filling the material. 6) Teachers like teaching writing using word games because word games can help them to motivate students in following the questions since the love playing while learning in the classroom. 7) teachers can motivate students to follow the lesson with fun, teachers easily follow the word games because it is equipped by the clear instructions, there are various word games which are related to teaching skills, word games are easily made/created by teachers based on the need of the lesson plan, word games are the simplest media to teach and long life. 8) word games which applicable to teach writing using word games are entitled broken sentence, mixed story, arranging sentence in a story, and getting occupation. The conclusions are The teachers’ perceptions towards teaching writing using word games are; teachers feel happy and fun during teaching writing using word games, teachers need more energy and time to maintain the word games, teachers should focus on the goal of writing mastery not the game itself, teachers should be creative in creating and organizing the word games, and teachers believe that word games are able to motivate students in following the lesson.  Key words: teachers’ perception, teaching writing, word games

Social studies learning in junior high schools are still predominantly carried out in conventional ways. Discussion of knowledge that leads to the development of students' critical knowledge is difficult. This research aims to analyze the process of strengthening students' critical knowledge of controversial issues in the social studies classroom. This research was conducted using qualitative methods with a descriptive design. This study involved nine social studies teachers at junior high schools in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. Data were collected using interviews and observation techniques. Then, the data were checked by the source triangulation technique. The data analysis is a qualitative data analysis model with the Creswell framework. The results of this research are: (i) students' critical knowledge of controversial issues is strengthened through interactive discussions; (ii) problem-based learning model is very relevant for strengthening students' critical knowledge about controversial issues; (iii) teacher instructions that encourage students to work independently, extracting comprehensive information, and the content of the material in debatable discussions make controversy issues very attractive to students. This research concludes that the learning of controversial issues is highly contextual by strengthening students' critical knowledge.

Telah dikembangkan multimedia interaktif berbasis of  Lectora inspire untuk mata pelajaran IPA kimia di kelas IX untuk SMP/MTs. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan desain penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development) dengan model Plomp, yang terdiri dari 4 fase yaitu ; investigasi awal, desain, realisasi dan validasi, uji coba dan revisi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan memvalidasi multimedia interaktif berbasis Lectora Inspire kepada 3 orang validator (ahli media dan ahli materi) dan uji coba oleh praktisi (pengguna) yaitu guru dan peserta didik di SMP Babussalam Pekanbaru. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan skor rata-rata penilaian validator 98,52%. Penilaian uji kepraktisan media berdasarkan angket respon guru dan siswa masing-masing diperoleh skor rata-rata 97,91% dan 96,67%. Dari hasil rata-rata skor validasi dan uji coba multimedia interaktif berbasis of  Lectora inspire untuk mata pelajaran IPA kimia di Kelas IX SMP/MTs valid dan dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran.   A valid and practical learning Interactive Multimedia of  Lectora inspire for Junior High Schools’ chemistry of science has been  developed. The research method was Research and Development with Plomp model which consist of 4 steps; Prelimenary Investigation,  Design, Realization, and  Validation, evaluation, revision. Media was  validated by three validators and limited trial by practitioners (users). The results showed an average score of validation was 98.52%. Based on questionnaire responses of  teachers and students at SMP Babussalam Pekanbaru each earned an average score of 97.91% and 96.67%, respectively. From the results of the average validation score and limited trial score of Interactive Multimedia of  Lectora inspire for Junior High Schools’ chemistry of science  was valid and can be used as a learning media.

Abstract: The purposes of this research are: (1) to know the level of influence of achievement motivation toward professional competence of mathematics teachers of Junior High Schools in Jepara District; (2) to know the level of influence of teachers?óÔé¼Ôäó participation in MGMP toward professional competence of mathematics teachers of Junior High Schools in Jepara District; (3) to know the level of influence of achievement motivation and teachers participation in MGMP toward professional competence of mathematics teachers of Junior High Schools in Jepara District. The population of this research is mathematics teachers of Junior High Schools in Jepara regency with the total number of 133 people, the sampel was 97 people selected randoly. Data collection is questionnaire. Data analysis by descriptive analysis, prerequisite test, and test the hypothesis used the simple regression linier and double regression linier. The result of research showed that motivation achievement has influence toward professional competence of teachers, the teachers?óÔé¼Ôäó participation in MGMP has influence toward professional competence of teachers, motivation achievement and teachers?óÔé¼Ôäó participation in MGMP have influence toward professional competence of teachers.Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh motivasi berprestasi terhadap kompetensi profesional guru matematika SMP di Kabupaten Jepara, (2) untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh partisipasi guru dalam MGMP terhadap kompetensi profesional guru matematika SMP diKabupaten Jepara, (3) untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh motivasi berprestasi dan partisipasi guru dalam MGMP secara bersama-sama terhadap kompetensi profesional guru matematika SMP di Kabupaten Jepara. Populasi dalampenelitian ini adalah seluruh guru matematika SMP di Kabupaten Jepara yang berjumlah 133 orang, diperoleh sampel sebanyak 97 orang dengan menggunakan teknik proportional random sampling. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode kuesioner. Analisis data yang digunakan adalahanalisis deskriptif, uji prasyarat dan uji hipotesis yang meliputi analisis regresi linier sederhana dan analisis regresi ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh positif motivasi berprestasi terhadap kompetensi profesional guru, terdapat pengaruh positif partisipasi guru dalam MGMP terhadapkompetensi profesional guru, terdapat pengaruh positif motivasi berprestasi dan partisipasi dalam MGMP secara bersama-sama terhadap kompetensi profesional guru.Kata-kata Kunci: motivation achievement, teacher participation in MGMP and professional competence of teachers.

Even as this issue of the Mathematics Teacher is different, we expect all issues of volume 66 to have a new aspect. There is a different color, a different format, but more important, a different emphasis, As mathematics teachers, the members of the Editorial Panel are aware of the need of NCTM memhers for help in meeting classroom problems. Our de-termination to meet this need is expressed by our new statement of the purpose of this journal, namely, “The Mathematics Teacher is devoted to the improvement of mathematics instruction in the junior high schools, senior high schools, two-year colleges, and teacher-education colleges.”

<p>A study on the level of difficulty of the mathematics subject has been carried out in<br />the Junior High Schools Aroun the City of Kupang. The samples were taken purposively among year 8 students and their mathematics teachers in the second semester from 8 public schools and 5 private schools. The number of samples was 659 students and 33 teachers. The analysis was conducted on the topics of Comparison, Aritmatic, Lines and Angles and Triangles and Quadrilateral Shapes. The study shows that the most challenging mathematic topics for the year 8 students in the City of Kupang is Lines and Angles followed by the calculation of area of irregular plane shapes particularly on pentagon forms</p>
