General increase of longevity in Ukraine and around the world along with the increasing number of women over 50 necessitates implementation of comprehensive scientifically based programs aimed to improve health and quality of life of this part of population. The aim of this review of international and Ukrainian studies was to investigate in depth hormone associated mechanisms of pathologic conditions formation in peri- and postmenopausal women. Materials and methods. Studies on association of climacteric symptoms and symptoms of dental pathology were analyzed. Results. Our literature review showed worse condition of dental health in menopausal women. The presence of estrogen receptors in oral mucosa and salivary glands increases the risk of dental pathology when ovarian function diminishes. Gradual decrease of ovarian steroids in female body causes changes in oral microbiota and changes microbial landscape of periodontal pockets and effects local immunity. This causes increase of oral mucosa pathology such as glossodynia or burning mouth syndrome, lichen planus and angular cheilitis. It also causes the increase of periodontal diseases rate. Conclusions. Cross-disciplinary interaction of dentists and gynecologists-endocrinologists will provide possibilities to discover more common causes and pathogenic mechanisms of periodontal diseases and oral mucosa in menopausal women. This will provide possibilities for the development of comprehensive approach to diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis.

Menopause is a universal phenomenon and an unavoidable physiological transition process in a women’s life, which marks the end of women’s reproductive capacity. It is caused by the depletion of ovarian function followed by the cessation of menstruation. In Ayurveda literature, the term Rajonivṛtti (menopause) is used for menopause and it considered as a sign of aging or Jarā. As a result of change in hormones after menopause certain psychological and biological changes affect women’s health and degrade her quality of life. Ācāryā Vāgbhaṭa had mentioned that in Kaphaprakṛti (body type) individual, and women who are having a habit of taking ghee (Vātapitta Prasamana - pacify Vata Pitta humors) and milk ( Jeevaniya), and who are having a pleasant mind in those subjects the Ārtava (menstruation) retains long . The aim of the study was to assess the menopausal symptoms that is mentioned in the menopausal rating scale (MRS) in relation to Prakruti of an individual. For that a survey study is conducted in 250 menopausal women in Sakthikulangara village (Kollam district) who satisfy the inclusion and exclusion criteria. It was observed that out of the 11 menopausal symptoms 9 symptoms shows statistically significant association with Vātapittaprakṛti.

Background. In this article, we have studied the frequency of the combination of diseases of the oral mucosa with somatic pathology and local factors of the oral cavity of gerontological patients. A clinical dental examination of the elderly and old people who addressed to the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry in Omsk State Medical University on the basis of Omsk dental polyclinics No. 1 was carried out. Objectives ― to study the frequency of combinations of diseases of the oral mucosa with somatic pathology and local oral factors. Methods. 120 patients aged 55―85 with periodontal diseases, the oral mucosa and red border were examined. Out of those 120 people 96 ones (80 %) were women; 24 (20 %) were men. Informed consent was obtained from all patients for examination, treatment, observation and «health questionnaires» were filled out. The analysis of the personalized advisory conclusions of the local therapist is carried out. An analysis was made of the oral hygiene index, galvanic current indicators, and the indications of gerontological patients in prosthetic treatment were fulfilled. Results. An analysis of the personalized advisory conclusions by the local physician showed that diseases of the oral mucosa of gerontological patients were combined with somatic pathology. The analysis of the hygiene index revealed unsatisfactory hygiene in 72 % cases. Galvanic currents were found in the oral cavity of gerontological patients in 52.2 % cases. Conclusions. In 100 % cases, somatic pathology was combined with diseases of the oral mucosa of gerontological patients. Local unfavourable factors: poor hygiene, galvanosis, irrational denture exacerbated the course of diseases of the oral mucosa and worsened the quality of life of gerontological patients.

Background. The high prevalence of inflammatory periodontal diseases in young people determines the relevance of the study of the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity is a General medical and socio-economic problem. Mobility and loss of teeth, the presence of a focus of chronic infection in periodontal pockets, gum recession and bad breath lead to psychological discomfort associated with difficulty in communicating, eating, daily life. Thus, the quality of life of patients due to dental health is an important indicator of the subjective evaluation of the effectiveness of therapeutic measures. Objectives ― study of the dynamics of quality of life in patients with chronic generalized periodontitis on the background of traditional therapy Methods. In the course of the study, the treatment of chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity was carried out using the traditional treatment regimen, and the long-term indicators of the quality of life due to dental health were studied on the basis of the OHIP-14-RU questionnaire. Results. As a result of our study revealed a significant improvement in the quality of life due to dental health in patients with chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity in the long term. At the same time, after 12 months, some patients in the questionnaires recorded problems in communication, after 6 and 12 months – problems in everyday life. Conclusions. Our study demonstrates an improvement in the quality of life due to dental health in patients with chronic generalized periodontitis of moderate severity against the background of traditional treatment. However, the emergence of problems in communication in the long term after therapy suggests the need to optimize treatment aimed at their elimination.

Background Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects several hundred million people. In the presence of type 1 diabetes mellitus, there is a xerostomia, a violation of microcirculation, epithelial regeneration, a change in local immunity, the accumulation of glycated hemoglobin, which disrupts the supply of nutrients, and reduces the resistance of tissues to the action of foreign microorganisms, leading to the formation of a hard-to-treat chronic mechanical injury of the oral mucosa. Objectives Conduct an analysis of the efficacy of the complex treatment for chronic mechanical trauma of the oral mucosa in patients with type 1 diabetes based on clinical, dental, immunological, sociological research methods and functional vascular studies. Methods The dental, clinical status, overall quality of life, local immunological status and hemodynamics of the oral mucosa before and after treatment of chronic injuries of the oral mucosa in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus by the traditional method compared with the scheme developed by us. Results As a result of the study, the success of treatment of chronic injuries of the oral mucosa in patients with type 1 diabetes according to our method is more effective than traditional treatment: by 20 % in terms of dental status, clinical symptoms and cytokine profile; complete disappearance of inflammatory changes in the oral mucosa 50 % improved the quality of life; the condition of the microcirculatory channel of the oral mucosa reached the figures of the control group. Conclusions With the application of the method of treatment of chronic mechanical trauma proposed by us in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus using the Optotan physiotherapeutic laser apparatus with 5 % of mexidol and Ozonid oil, the therapy proved highly effective, based on the results of the study.

A special place in the structure of dental morbidity is occupied by the pathology of the periodontal complex, in particular, chronic generalized periodontitis, which, according to the WHO, is in second place in terms of prevalence among all dental diseases, second only to caries. The first signs of periodontal inflammation begin to appear already in the young years, and by the old age the prevalence of periodontal diseases reaches values tending to 100%. Solving the problem of timely diagnosis, prevention and treatment of periodontal pathology is still the most urgent task of modern dentistry. Generalized periodontitis is not only a source of chronic infection and a source of sensitization of the body, but also a leading cause of tooth loss (especially in older age groups), leading to serious destructive consequences that disorganize the dental apparatus. This fact can seriously affect the quality of life, making periodontal problems not only medical, but also social. Despite the obvious relevance of this issue, as well as the great interest in scientific research in the field of periodontology, it is worth recognizing that the level of dental health, as well as the provision of periodontal care, including the elderly population, is far from ideal. This is largely due to the complexity of the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases, as well as, often, the lack of a comprehensive understanding of this pathology during its therapy

Subject. Microorganisms are a fundamental factor in the development of inflammation. The choice of a medicinal composition in the form of a gel can provide a prolonged introduction of dosage forms into the focus of inflammation. For our research, the herbal medicine Gum balm "Forest Balm" was selected. The main components are aloe juice, bisabolol, panthenol and ginger extract, which have an anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effect; troxerutin, which helps reduce gum bleeding; fir extract, which blocks the growth of pathogenic oral microbiota. Purpose ― to assess the effectiveness of the use of gum balm "Forest Balsam" in the treatment of inflammatory periodontal diseases Methodology. A survey of 30 volunteer patients aged 20 to 22 years was conducted. Dental examinations were performed at the following time intervals: before application, after the 1st application, after 3 days, after 5 days and 7 days of application. The prevalence of the inflammatory process was assessed using the papillary-marginal-alveolar index and the Muhlemann bleeding index (modified by Cowell). Qualitative and quantitative study of microbiological material was performed by measuring the buccal epithelial colonization index to determine the status of local immunity. Results. Changes in the cytological picture in the direction of normocenosis are determined on the third day of applying the gum balm "Forest balm". On the 7th day of application, it eliminates all visible symptoms of gum disease (bleeding, inflammation, swelling). Conclusions. Gum balm "Forest balm" improves the protective function of the oral cavity by activating cellular defense mechanisms, strengthens local immunity, activates its own immune defense of the oral cavity to fight opportunistic microorganisms, increases the colonization resistance of the oral mucosa to opportunistic microorganisms.
