They provide large employment opportunities at comparatively lower capital cost apart from enabling industrialisation of backward areas, thereby, reducing regional imbalances, assuring more equitable distribution of national income and wealth. This is more so in the Asian economies and undoubtedly SME is an important contributor to Indian economy. However, globalisation is bringing new opportunities. To seize these opportunities, SMEs need to re look at their business and strategize for excellence. Hence, the core objective of this chapter is to explore whether adopting excellence models can help SMEs to attain sustainability. Through in depth literature review and grounded theory approach the focus is to discuss different business excellence theories and focus on the need to use business excellence strategies for their sustainability and continued success.

In India, different political regimes have introduced varied policies for the economic and social development of the nation. Within the context of industrial sector development, MSMEs contribute and play a pivotal role in the growth of Indian economy. These enterprises nurture local entrepreneurship and generate large employment opportunities that are comparatively less capital intensive and stands next to agriculture. This paper examines the relationship between the rise of Hindutva politics and MSMEs in India and argues that the rise of Hindutva politics and its demonetisation policies have adversely impacted the MSME sector. The demonetisation policies proved to be fatal and laden with complexities for the MSME sector to cope that mostly overlaps with the informal sector. The paper explores the impacts of demonetisation on MSMEs that proved detrimental and unfavourably affected the lives of the people, hence, rendering to its decline in the country.

The aim of this paper is to analize the role and importance of financial and non-financial instruments of supporting the sector of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Republic of Srpska (RS). For that purpose, in late 2013 and early 2014, there was conducted a quantitative research on a sample of 110 respondents on the whole territory of RS, with the aim of finding the answers to the following question: What is the reason that a large number of SMEs in RS fail to provide adequate financial and non-financial support to their business activity and what measures should be taken in order to improve the current situation? In order to specify the research problem, we ask ourselves if the existing instruments of financial and non-financial support to the sector of SMEs in the RS are sufficiently developed and accessible, as to contribute to the successful growth and development of the said enterprises? We found that the above mentioned instruments of support to the SME sector in RS are not sufficiently developed. Respondents were acquainted with the sole instruments and models of financial and non-financial support that exist in RS. According to the results of the empirical research, we conclude that creating and mastering the models and instruments of financial and non-financial support to SME sector in the RS and providing the adequate business climate for their successful functioning, will increase the availability of favourable financial means for SMEs, as well as the possibility of using the positive aspects of clusters, guarantee funds, factorings and other forms of entrepreneurship infrastructure.

Growing or expanding the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector of the economy is one key strategy to achieve economic growth and development. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) scalability (growth or expansion) have become an area of concern for economic growth in developing economies. People use the term in reference to computer or other technological systems, but those in business also use the word to describe the adaptability of a company (Thibodeaux, 2015) in today‘s fast-paced business environment where the focus on customer satisfaction is at an all-time high. This article discusses the concept of scalability as it relates to business and non-scalable components of business process as well as the importance of being scalable. It also looked at some of the challenges and practices that prevent effective scalability of MSMEs in Nigeria and the way forward.

The outburst of COVID-19 has not only distressed the economic and social activities of Indian economy but also the world economy as a whole. Out of different economic activities, the micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) affected a lot. This article attempts to measure the contribution of MSMEs towards Indian economy and also attempts to find out the challenges and problems in pre- and during COVID period. We have used different descriptive statistics to measure the impacts of MSMEs and also use of correlation and co-integration to measure the relationship among the variables such as number of MSMEs, investment amount, employment and output. This pandemic is an exceptional shock for MSMEs. It is evident that there is a high degree of significant positive correlation among the variables. Johansen’s co-integration analysis resulted in the rejection of the null hypothesis signifying the existence of long-run co-integrating relationship. Given the extensive COVID-19 chaos, the government needs to establish an ongoing monitoring system and declare urgent relief steps to improve the MSMEs sector’s confidence. E-market linkage for MSMEs should be promoted, and fiscal stimulus should increase for this sector. The Government of India should take various measures to improve Indian MSMEs and achieve the vision of Self-reliant India.

Banking Industry in India, a major section of which constitute of nationalized Banks, is facing three important challenges- to continue its contribution in rapid growth of Indian Economy, to make pace with the International Prudential Norms of Banking and Accounting Practices and to contain NPAs (Non-Performing Assets) and recover, which has reached an alarming Rs 6.0 lakhs crores. The bulk of Bank advances go to the large industries and big and established business houses, the major share of NPAs are attributed to them presently. The share of MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), a priority sector of Indian economy, towards growing NPAs may need equal attention as they are in large numbers. Laying stress on strengthening legal framework to overcome this challenge not proving very effective, a service oriented architecture framework may find a solution of advance diagnosis and prevention of MSMEs turning into NPAs. This chapter proposes data mining service in cloud computing environment to Banks which can be delivered as Platform-as-a-Service through Shiny.
