The article considers one of the most urgent problems in dentistry in the differential diagnosis of cancer of the oral mucosa. The differential signs of ulcers of the oral mucosa and vermilion border of varying etiology, as well as their differences from cancerous ulcers, are described in detail. Knowledge of these differences will allow the dentist to differentiate these lesions of the mucosa and choose the right, most effective tactics for their treatment.

Introduction: Extramedullar plasmocytoma (EMP) is a plasma cell disease, such as solitary plasmocytoma of the bone and multiple myeloma. It is developed in the soft tissues. Observation: A 79-year-old patient consulted for a painful tumefaction of the gum associated to a radiolucent area on the right side of the mandible on the panoramic x-ray. After surgical enucleation, histological examination showed that the diagnosis was either an IgA extramedullar plasmocytoma or a multiple myeloma. The spreading assessment eliminated the diagnosis of multiple myeloma. The patient was then treated with radiotherapy. Discussion: EMP is a rare tumoral disease. Few cases described oral localisation. The main differential diagnosis, that must be excluded is multiple myeloma. Transformation in multiple myeloma exists. The first intention treatment is radiotherapy of the lesion. Conclusion: EMP of the oral cavity is very rare. After treatment, follow-up is required to detect second localisation or progression in multiple myeloma.

Relevance. Multiform exudative erythema is a polyetiological disease, which is characterized by damage not only to the skin, but also to the mucous membranes, mainly the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The article reviews the literature on the clinical course of multiform exudative erythema of the oral cavity.Purpose. Study the clinical course of erythema multiforme.Materials and methods. We conducted a review of studies of the etiology, pathogenesis, prevalence of erythema multiforme according to domestic and foreign authors, and also reflected the identification of various forms and clinical manifestations of this disease.Results. The analysis of clinical manifestations of erythema multiforme exudative in the oral cavity, the most common symptoms and manifestations on the oral mucosa.Conclusion. The clinical picture of lesions of the oral mucosa in multiform exudative erythema is very diverse, which is important for the timely diagnosis of the disease.

Mucosal melanoma of the oral cavity is a rare but highly aggressive neoplasm. However, the clinicians need to be aware of the other and more frequent etiologies of intraoral pigmentation, such as amalgam tattoos. As amalgam has been extensively used for dental restorations and can cause pigmentations in the oral mucosa, this is a differential diagnosis not to be forgotten. We describe the characteristics of these two phenomena and present a case vignette illustrating the differential diagnostic issues. Other causes of intraoral pigmentation are summarized.

The author notes the identity of the picture of warts on the oral mucosa with syphilitic papules so often observed here. The ease of confusion of these two diseases makes it necessary to pay special attention to the differential diagnosis, supporting it with microscopic examination.

The oral cavity is considered to be a mirror of the body’s health, as it reflects the manifestations of various systemic disorders. Most of the oral mucosa is derived embryologically from an invagination of ectoderm and thus, like other similar orifices, it may become involved in the disorders that are primarily associated with the skin. Oral submucous fibrosis is one of the commonest precancerous conditions of the oral mucosa involving any part of the oral cavity resulting in tissue scarring, dysphagia and trismus. It is a collagen-related disorder characterized by excessive fibrosis in the oral submucosa, hyalinization and degenerative changes in the muscles. This disease has become a challenging entity for dermatologists due to resemblance of its features to various mucocutaneous conditions. An improper diagnosis can lead to wrong treatment and additional complications. Dermatologists need to be aware of the characteristic features of this disease which can distinguish it from other similar conditions. This review aims to focus on the detailed aspects of oral submucous fibrosis including its historical background, etiological factors, pathogenesis, clinical features, differential diagnosis, investigations, management and future perspectives.

Abstract Tuberculosis (TB) is an epidemic infectious disease that seldom takes an oral form. Because of the still increased incidence of TB in our country, in the differential diagnosis of chronic oral ulcerations, tuberculosis should always be considered. Oral TB is frequently overlooked as a possible cause of oral ulceration. Therefore dentists should be aware of the possible occurrence of TB of the oral cavity. Introduction. The tissues surrounding the implant, which have common features with periodontal tissues, but still possessing a certain specificity are the actual topic of the study. A considerable amount of textbooks has been written on this topic, but so far it has remained little studied. Purpose ― to summarize all knowledge of the structural features of the tissues surrounding the implant, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical picture, differential diagnosis of the pathologies of these tissues. Results. This review is devoted to the analysis of the modern understanding of the influence of the structural features of the soft tissues surrounding the implant and the nonspecific protection factors of the oral mucosa on the potentiation of inflammatory processes and their relationship with the biodegradation of the material. The work of scientists on the criteria for choosing an implantable material depending on the resistance to aggressive environments of the oral cavity, as well as biocompatibility with the tissues of the oral cavity. The risks of complications are considered depending on the implantable material. The etiopathogenesis of such diseases as implantation mucositis and dental periimplantitis is also considered. The clinical picture of these diseases is described, a correlation is made with the materials used for the manufacture of suprastructures. The prevention of complications arising from prosthetics on dental implants is considered.

Cases of thallium poisonings are regularly reported in media. In the present work, the world experience in diagnostics and treatment of victims with thallium poisoning has been compiled and summarized, search for clinical guidelines for the diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of patients has been carried out. The toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, as well as pathophysiological mechanisms of thallium influence on the body are described in detail. Toxic and lethal concentrations of poison in biological media, as well as its tropicity to various tissues and body systems were determined. The clinical picture depending on the timing of poisoning and the dose of poison is described in detail. Difficulties of the differential diagnosis are defined. The most interesting cases of criminal and household poisonings with various terms of establishment of the diagnosis, doses of poisoning and outcomes are presented.

A clinical case of observation of a 3-year-old child with a newly diagnosed optic nerve coloboma and multiple malformations is considered. The clinical picture and diagnostic methods necessary for the diagnosis are reflected. On the example of this child, the differential diagnosis with Charge syndrome is considered. Key words: coloboma, optic nerve coloboma, partial optic nerve atrophy, astigmatism, Charge syndrome.
