Triggered by the widespread use of electric scooters in Serbian cities, the authors conducted an empirical research of media discourses in terms of their use and the influence they have on the various aspects of wellbeing in the urban environment. Among other, the authors explore the relation between the use of electric scooters and urban security challenges as seen by newspapers, as well as the lens of the Twitter community in Serbia. Through the identification of the main topics represented in both newspapers and Twitter posts, the ways and tones in which the topics have been addressed, as well as arguments provided to support the publicly expressed attitudes, this paper provides both the quantitative and qualitative analysis of data, attempting to give an answer to whether the use of electric scooters could be considered an urban security challenge or just another issue causing moral panic.

AbstractThis article investigates media representations of the European financial crisis in Greece and Italy. We study the Euro crisis as an ‘emergency situation’ with domino effects, where media played a central role in shaping communication practices at the national level as well as between the two countries. Drawing upon vertical and horizontal dynamics of Europeanization, we map the convergences and divergences in media discourses that surround the period 2011–2015. In doing so, we elaborate a qualitative analysis of newspaper articles focusing, in particular, on the themes of austerity and the fragmentation of Europe. Our argument suggests that national public spheres in times of transnational crisis become increasingly nationalized; yet under certain circumstances such as when the supranational infrastructure is the target of blame, they converge, opening the path toward a transnational discursive dialogue.

Crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) has been a fixture in Australian newspapers since the early 2000s. This study explores discourses at work in constructing the ice “problem” in recent Australian media, possible implications for how people who use ice are discursively positioned, and the resulting significance for drug policy. Twenty-seven articles were selected for discourse analysis, sampled from a larger study of Australian ice-related news items. By critically engaging with sociological concepts of “moral panic” and the “risk society,” we demonstrate how three media discourses produce the subject of the “young person” as both victimized by ice and a catastrophic threat in and of themselves: (1) “ice traps and transforms youth,” (2) “ice does not discriminate,” and (3) “ice perverts sanctuary.” These discourses illustrate the tensions between the meanings of ice use and understandings of safety and risk, speaking to current anxieties in Western, neoliberal societies. Ice use is further constructed as a form of abjection, threatening traditional social boundaries and institutions. However, the agency and determinism simultaneously granted to ice the substance troubles the notion we are witnessing yet another “drug scare” that polices social behavior. Instead, we observe how these discourses mirror those in the biomedical literature, which construct ice as a uniform, agentic, and uniquely dangerous drug. With use attributed to entrapment and/or naturalized as addiction, the drug is constituted as engineering its own, always harmful, consumption. This limits conceptions of any “safer,” “rational,” or “pleasurable” forms of ice use and further justifies state intervention on its users. Overall, these discourses rationalize prohibitionist interventions around ice and singularize drug consumption as a behavior requiring institutional management.

Purpose. Analysis of the image of "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism in mass media which was created on the basis of selected materials and means of communication used for their presentation. Indication of discourses related to participants` travels in order to gain theoretical and practical knowledge on martial arts and fighting sports (with indication of exposed and potentially marginalised content) on the example of the Fight Quest TV show. Methods. Qualitative analysis of the mass media content of thirteen episodes. The subject of this analysis was audiovisual materials considered in terms of selected content constituting elements of compositional modality (including production, existence and potential reception). The coding of responses (possibly in the most relevant categories) and the presentation of the results were carried out using the Atlas.ti computer programme. Findings. The use of specialist discourse on the subject of martial arts and fighting sports by the creators of the show. The positive attitude of the main characters to learning martial arts and fighting sports as one of the forms of cultural tourism. The marginal occurrence of the subject of practicing sightseeing and religious tourism by the participants. Research and conclusions limitations. Empirical research concerns only one television programme and does not take other types of media productions with similar themes into account. Practical implications. The results of the research may be useful both in terms of analysis of various types of tourism and media discourses about "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism. Originality. Analysis of the subject of "martial arts and fighting sports" tourism in a small number of scientific studies. Type of paper. An article presenting the results of empirical research.

The security challenge on IoT (Internet of Things) is one of the hottest and most pertinent topics at the moment especially the several security challenges. The Botnet is one of the security challenges that most impact for several purposes. The network of private computers infected by malicious software and controlled as a group without the knowledge of owners and each of them running one or more bots is called Botnets. Normally, it is used for sending spam, stealing data, and performing DDoS attacks. One of the techniques that been used for detecting the Botnet is the Supervised Learning method. This study will examine several Supervised Learning methods such as; Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Naive Bayes, k- Nearest Neighbors, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting Machines, and Support Vector Machine for identifying the Botnet in IoT with the aim of finding which Supervised Learning technique can achieve the highest accuracy and fastest detection as well as with minimizing the dependent variable.

AbstractMigrations as an inevitable fact of socioeconomic trends pose a security challenge for migrant countries, transition countries, and the countries where migrants come as to the ultimate destination. They are realized in a large area with a large number of participants and global consequences. This paper, through the basic determinants of migrations, statistical indicators on migrations, security challenges, risks and threats, migration policy and international security, provides answers to the questions about the numerical movement of migrants from the seventies of the last century to today on a global scale. Responses are also given about the reasons for triggering migrations, the most desirable migrant destinations, and the impact of migrations on security in departure, transit and destination countries. Particular attention is given to the last migration crisis that has largely affected the European Union.

Internet of Things (IOT) is an essential paradigm where devices are interconnected into network. The operations of these devices can be through service-oriented software engineering (SOSE) principles for efficient service provision. SOSE is an important software development method for flexible, agile, loose-coupled, heterogeneous and interoperable applications. Despite all these benefits, its adoption for IOT services is slow due to security challenges. The security challenge of integration of IOT with service-oriented architecture (SOA) is man-in-the-middle attack on the messages exchanged. The transport layer security (TLS) creates a secured socket channel between the client and server. This is efficient in securing messages exchanged at the transport layer only. SOSE-based IOT systems needs an end-to-end security to handle its vulnerabilities. This integration enables interoperability of heterogeneous devices, but renders the system vulnerable to passive attacks. The confidentiality problem is hereby addressed by message level hybrid encryption. This is by encrypting the messages by AES for efficiency. However, to enable end-to-end security, the key sharing problem of advanced encryption standard (AES) is handled by RSA public key encryption. The results shows that this solution addressed data contents security and credentials security privacy issues. Furthermore, the solution enables end-to- end security of interaction in SOSE-based IOT systems.

The article aims at pointing out what kinds of activities designed to improve the learners’ writing proficiency are effective in a Vietnamese context. With a two-group pretest and posttest design of an empirical research, the authors implemented a series of teaching activities in the classroom. The data were collected by means of pre-tests, post-tests, and interviews. The results indicated that the participants in the experimental condition significantly gained in their writing performance. Qualitative analysis of the data shows that the majority of participants positively evaluated the effectiveness of the activities. However, a consideration for contextual adjustment should be taken when several activities together might be overload to the learners.
