The Economic Contribution to Sustainable Tourism Development in Badung Regency - Bali

Sustainable tourism has achieved the status of being the superior goal in Badung Regency government tourism policy, and is attaining much attention in the national scientific and political discourse on tourism. Tourism is a tool that has been widely used around the world for the purpose of intensifying the economic aspects of the local community. Badung is supportive of this tool. The main objective of this paper is to unveil the potential economic benefits that can be offered by the tourism and its related activities to progressive community in Badung-Bali. Data were collected through document analyses. The qualitative studies concluded that tourism can be the impetus for sustainable development for Badung community. The benefits include enhancing their social empowerment system, strengthening their social ties and developing their social skills and relationships, increasing the income of local community, diversifying and intensifying the economic activities, providing job opportunities and alleviation of poverty. Thus, tourism has the potential to raise the consciousness of the selected community regarding sustainable development.

This article discusses the role of women in supporting sustainable tourism development in Bali by promoting Balinese cuisine to the tourism world. To date, studies on the role of Balinese women in the tourism industry have looked mainly at women as ordinary workers or professionals. In fact, Balinese women operate as culinary entrepreneurs who have not only been successful in introducing Balinese cuisine to the world of tourism but have opened up job opportunities for men and women alike. The data presented in this article was collected through observation of four leading Balinese women who run successful local culinary outlets or restaurants offering local dishes, and is complemented by interviews and other published sources relating to their business activities. The four pioneering women surveyed are Men Tempeh of Gilimanuk (West Bali) serving chicken betutu, the suckling pig restaurant manager Ibu Oka in Ubud, the owner of Made’s Warung Ni Made Masih, and the catering company owner Ibu Warti Buleleng, based in Denpasar. This article concludes that these four Balinese culinary heroines or srikandi have successfully managed to preserve and promote Balinese dishes to the world of tourism while contributing to the sustainable development of Balinese tourism by providing opportunities for tourists to experience local cuisine.

Sustainable tourism development of the northern part of Serbia in Autonomous Province of Vojvodina aims to achieve ecological, sociocultural, and economic benefits. This means that all entities should be included in the planning and implementation of tourism, such as the local community, tourists, and state entities, while tourism activity should be focused on improving ecological principles and sociocultural conception in a destination. One of the models of this development is seen in specific products that can play a significant role in tourism development. Such an authentic product is wine, which has a very important role in the promotion of tourism. The aim of this paper is to explore Vojvodina—the region of Serbia—as a valuable wine tourism destination in the country, especially the experiences of the wine routes. We use descriptive statistics techniques to summarize and present the data and adopt a correlation analysis technique to describe respondents’ preference on the importance of the wine routes. In the empirical survey, the main conclusion is a positive correlation that by developing wine tourism in Vojvodina, we can influence economic development of the region.

One of the main principles a community empowerment in sustainable development is that the primary benefits should be returned to the local community and become an integral part of the development activity. However, Tangkoko as a centre for natural tourism development in North Sulawesi, Indonesia has tended to concentrate on tourism development without adequately considering livelihoods of local communities. This study is aimed to examine to what extend The model of community empowerment can be applied into the practice of community empowerment development in Tangkoko Nature Reserve. The study will contribute to the formulation of government policy in formulating and establishing the R- Urban conservation efforts, especially in the utilization of local natural resources by using the principles of sustainable development in Tangkoko Nature Reserve. In addition, the results of the study will be able to promote the use of community-based empowerment and participation through the use high-value natural surrounding environment. This study involves desktop research and fieldwork comprising questionnaire surveys and on-site observations to provide evidences of community-based empowerment in Tangkoko Natural Reserve. This study develops a model of sustainable tourism development through creative community empowerment that will ensure the outcomes from tourism will be returned to strengthen the local economy as well the quality of life of local communities.

While the economic benefits of tourism are well known, the research evidence indicates that the benefits of tourism are rarely equitably distributed among the key stakeholders. In this context, sustainable tourism development (STD) as a long-term approach development aims to balance social and economic objectives with environmentally sound management. The sustainable development as a strategic tool requires a process of planning and management that brings together a series of interests and stakeholders’ concerns in the form of planning and development. Therefore, keeping in view the importance and relevance of stakeholder cooperation for sustainable tourism development, and the residents being the key stakeholders, this research examines the rural residents’ attitudes towards the impacts of the pilgrimage tourism. The results of the research points out that the sustainable development is important for responding to the current problems as caused by tourism development, as well as to address the needs of future generations.

Tourism has been one of important Cambodia’s key economic growth drivers (OECD, 2018). After Khmer Rouge, most Cambodian women have become head of their families and indispensable part of the development in all sectors in Cambodia, including tourism. This study aims to explore how tourism influences on managing women empowerment and the participation of women in sustainable tourism development in Kampong Phluk community-based tourism site, Siem Reap, Cambodia. The qualitative descriptive approach with in-depth interviews, has been used for collecting data. The eighteen interviewees had at least 2 years’ experience in managing and participating in community-based tourism, especially female members. The constant comparison analysis is used to analyze data collected from the interviewees. The result revealed that tourism truly brings many socio-economic benefits to the local community, especially female members of the community by empowering them economically, socially, psychologically, and politically. This study also found that women are the key contributors to the development of sustainable tourism in their community by participating in all activities regarding economic sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability, and environmental sustainability, by managing the benefits from tourism and distributing them fairly to all people in the community but minimizing the negative impacts on the community’s natural resources plus preservation of the local culture.

In this paper authors have tried to elaborate some aspects of socioeconomic approach which would eventually unveil the future of economic and cultural development of the island of Dugi otok. It can be argued that the development of tourism as well as other economic activities on the island of Dugi otok can be attested as a paradigm for all bigger islands on the Croatian Adriatic sea. Sustainable tourism development on Dugi otok can only be durable if all other production and land axploitation activities adopt the paradigm of sustainable development. The island of Dugi otok is probably the best model of what can be called an unpolished diamonds of the Croatian Adriatic with so many resources that wait to be properly activated in order to preserve the authentic life experience on the island. This research paper has tried to prove that along with sustainable amount of mass tourism, there should develop appropriate quantity of specific niche tourism products with aim to enhance the value of authentic sustainable development of island tourism.

Development in this age of sustainable development is sustainable development itself and tourism development is sustainable development of tourism. The present paper investigates the development of tourism from the socio economic indicators of sustainable tourism of Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is an open museum and central hub of Tourism. To explore the Economic dimension of Bhaktapur Sustainable Tourism Development through Employment that focuses Number, type and duration of jobs, Gender equity, Business viability, Expenditure, Arrivals, Profitability, and Satisfaction. And to analyze the Social dimension of Bhaktapur Sustainable Tourism Development through Quality of Life that focuses Resident Empowerment, Congestion and crowding, Community attitudes to tourism, Access to amenities, and Changes in crime rate, the study has been conducted. The primary information is based on multiple sources of societal learning like field visits in course of doing researches, observation of various sites, General Household Questionnaire Survey, focus on group discussions, interactive seminars and a number of interactions and interviews with the experts of tourism sector in Bhaktapur. General Household Questionnaire Survey of purposively selected cluster of Dattatraya Square area was conducted on 157 households. Among five clusters Dattatrya Square was purposely selected for the study. Actual spending and length of stay of foreign tourists have been increasing in Nepal. Altogether from socio economic perspective 13 programsare recommended from the study to the local government of Bhaktapur Dattatrya. It needs around265 lakhs and timeline is not more than one year. Five times of these 13 projects and 265 lakhs can double the visitors in coming years.
