Abstract    More than 90% of cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) / Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrom (AIDS) in children, occur due to transmission from mother to child. Prevention of unwanted pregnancies with contraception in HIV positive women is important strategy to reduce the rate of mother to child HIV/AIDS transmission. The practice of contraceptive use in HIV positive women is strongly influenced by individual beliefs regarding the benefits and effectiveness of contraception for the prevention of mother to child HIV/AIDS transmission. This study aims to determine the relationship of perceptions based on the construct of the Health Belief Model (HBM) wich consists of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, self efficacy, and cues to action and based on pluralistic ignorance on the practice of contraceptive use among woman of childbearing age recipients of antiretroviral in Bandung. The design of this study was quantitative non-experimental with survey methods. Data were collected for one month, using questionnaire from 188 women of childbearing age  receiving  antiretroviral drughs taken by consecutive sampling (non-probability) technique. Data were analyzed by logistic regression. The results revealed perceived susceptibility is an HBM construct that affects contraceptive use (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR):4.5). While knowledge (AOR:7.3) and age (AOR:0.801), emerged as other factors that influence contraceptive use among WUS recipients of antiretroviral in Bandung. The HBM is used to predict contraceptive behavior in women. HIV positive women who believe themselves to be at high risk of infecting HIV/AIDS from mother to child will tend to use contraception, besides that knowledge is the basis for HIV positive women taking action to use contraception.

Beliefs can influence health behavior. This qualitative study aimed to understand the beliefs that influence HIV positive mothers' behaviors towards prevention methods against mother-to-child transmission. Fourteen women were interviewed. Our research was based on the theoretical Health Belief Model, formed by the following dimensions: perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits and perceived obstacles. Data analysis showed reflections that evidence the paradox in the AIDS epidemic: knowledge does not change behavior; gender relations; fear of death; fear of stigma; financial problems; disbelief in the virus' existence. Identifying beliefs and understanding how to influence the conduction of the health problem can help services to promote patients' adherence.

BackgroundDespite the availability and knowledge of various contraceptive methods, consistent utilisation in women living with HIV/AIDS (WLWHA) within the reproductive age group remains below the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Family Planning 2020 goals. This study examines the association between sociodemographic factors and contraceptive use including the effect of clustering tendencies of these factors on contraceptive usage among WLWHA in Kenya.MethodsWeighted multivariate logistic regression models were conducted to determine the association of sociodemographic factors on contraception use among WLWHA using the 2008–2009 Kenya Demographic Health Survey. Spatial autocorrelation techniques were used to explore clustering tendencies of these factors on contraception utilisation. Our study population included 304 HIV positive women, aged 15–49 years.ResultsAmong 304 HIV-positive women in our study population, 92 (30.3%) reported using one method of contraception. Contraceptive use was significantly associated with wealth and education after adjustment for other sociodemographic variables. Women classified as having low and middle wealth index were less likely to use contraceptives (OR=0.17, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.43; OR=0.33, 95% CI 0.11 to 0.98, respectively) compared with women classified as having high wealth index. Similarly, women with primary education only were less likely to use contraceptives compared with women with secondary or higher education (OR=0.42, 95% CI 0.18 to 0.98). Spatial autocorrelation revealed significant positive clusters with weak clustering tendencies of non-contraceptive use among different levels of wealth index and education within different regions of Kenya.ConclusionThese findings underscores the need for intervention programmes to further target socially disadvantaged WLWHA, which is necessary for achieving the SDGs.

SummaryIn Lesotho, the risk of mother-to-child-transmission (MTCT) of HIV is substantial; women of childbearing age have a high HIV prevalence rate (26·4%), low knowledge of HIV status and a total fertility rate of 3·5 births per woman. An effective means of preventing MTCT is to reduce unwanted fertility. This paper examines the unmet need for contraception to limit and space births among HIV-positive women in Lesotho aged 15–49 years, using the 2004 Lesotho Demographic and Health Survey. HIV-positive women have their need for contraception unmet in almost one-third of cases, and multivariate analysis reveals this unmet need is most likely amongst the poor and amongst those not approving of family planning. Urgent action is needed to lower the level of unmet need and reduce MTCT. A constructive strategy is to improve access to family planning for all women in Lesotho, irrespective of HIV status, and, more specifically, integrate family planning with MTCT prevention and voluntary counselling and testing services.

Dengue Fever is a disease caused by the dengue virus with acute fever symptoms by entering the human bloodstream through the bite of a mosquito from the genus Aedes. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) has spread widely to all provinces in Indonesia. This disease often appears as an Extraordinary Event (KLB) with relatively high morbidity and mortality. Many dengue incidence rates make the application of the DHF prevention program by applying the theory of the Health Belief Model (HBM) as a prevention effort that can change the behavior of healthy and clean living. This HBM consists of four components: perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, and cues to action. Based on the results of the study, it was conducted from 16 November - 12 December 2020. This research used a Quasi-experimental research design with the One Group Pre Post-test design approach with a sample of Ngrancah Hamlet RT 25 RW 8 Senggreng Village residents using a total sampling technique. The analysis technique of this research is using univariate analysis. The results of this study indicate that the health belief model theory indicators in the DHF prevention program are close to a maximum value, namely Perceived Susceptibility with a mean value of 17.30, perceived severity with a mean value of 15.80, perceived benefits of 15.80, perceived barrier 16.70, and cues. To act with a mean value of 17.30. This study concludes that these results are expected to increase awareness for healthy and clean behavior in preventing DHF.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the components of the Health Belief Model (HBM) in order to predict medication adherence in patients with HIV. Method: A correlational study was conducted with 150 HIV positive patients including 109 men and 36 women with a mean age of 33. The data was collected in between March 2019 – May2019 from Jinnah Hospital Lahore. Those patients who were in between 18 to 55 years of age and taking antiretroviral therapy from atleast last three months were taken for the study. However those patients who were above age 55, and not taking antiretroviral therapy were not included in the study. They assessed through Urdu translated questionnaire of AIDS health belief scale (HBS), cues to action, and adherence determination questionnaire (ADQ). SPSS version 22 was used for data analysis. Results: The perceived severity and perceived cost significantly positively predicted medication adherence. However, other variables of the HBM model was not helpful to understand the medication adherence in the research participants. Conclusion: Perceived severity and perceived cost predicted the medication adherence in the studied sample. On the other hand these results also indicate that there is a need to introduce awareness campaign which will reflect on the importance of taking regular mediaction by HIV patients.
