The tridharma of higher education in the form of education, research, and community service is the mandate of the legislation for universities. In implementing tridharma, universities should adapt to the development and needs of the community as well as science and technology (Science, Technology and the Arts). It can hardly be fulfilled by a university alone because of the growing needs of the society where all branches of science need to be integrated and connected. This study explained how collaboration could be applied in universities with a TQM approach. TQM has been widely used in various organizations and has proven its success for this approach was chosen in developing the existing collaboration model. Literature analysis method of TQM and collaboration was used in this study. The result is collaboration in fulfilling the Tridharma of higher education by using the TQM approach in a model stage could help organizations achieve previously agreed goals and adapt to existing science and technology needs.

AbstractThe practice of educating students in college-level science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) subjects is influenced by many factors, including education research, governmental and school policies, financial considerations, technology limitations, and acceptance of innovations by faculty and students. Working together, stakeholders in STEM higher education must find creative ways to address the increasing need for a diverse US workforce with a strong STEM background (President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology 2012) and the need for a more STEM-literate general population (National Research Council 2012).

Like many American scholars I have been interested in the issue between science and the humanities in higher education. I have heard lectures and read books that praised the humanities and made reasoned presentations of the claims of literature and the arts in the dissemination of the best and most effective culture. I have been gratified by such discourses. The inference has been that students of science and technology should be urged and persuaded to devote at least some time to history, philosophy, literature, and the arts, and to this I have no objection; but it has seemed to me that we were taking hold of the matter from exactly the wrong end. It is perhaps important for scientists to know the humanities, but it has seemed to me essential that humanists should know the sciences. I presume my acquaintance with the Renaissance has led me to adopt the view that the truths of science, as well as those of history, philosophy, arts and letters, are within the domain of humanism. I need not mention the names of great Renaissance humanists—Erasmus, Spenser, Shakespeare, Bacon, Milton, Rabelais, Montaigne, Ariosto, and Cervantes. We still have, however, a thrill of surprise when we hear Bacon say, “I have taken all knowledge to be my province,” although Bacon is merely expressing the professed doctrine of Renaissance humanism. The truth of the matter is that all Renaissance humanists, with due allowance for the indulgence of special aptitudes, did precisely that.

There has been a recent push for greater collaboration across the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields in discipline-based education research (DBER). The DBER fields are unique in that they require a deep understanding of both disciplinary content and educational research. DBER scholars are generally trained and hold professional positions in discipline-specific departments. The professional societies with which DBER scholars are most closely aligned are also often discipline specific. This frequently results in DBER researchers working in silos. At the same time, there are many cross-cutting issues across DBER research in higher education, and DBER researchers across disciplines can benefit greatly from cross-disciplinary collaborations. This report describes the Breaking Down Silos working meeting, which was a short, focused meeting intentionally designed to foster such collaborations. The focus of Breaking Down Silos was institutional transformation in STEM education, but we describe the ways the overall meeting design and structure could be a useful model for fostering cross-­disciplinary collaborations around other research priorities of the DBER community. We describe our approach to meeting recruitment, premeeting work, and inclusive meeting design. We also highlight early outcomes from our perspective and the perspectives of the meeting participants.

The nature of work is changing rapidly in the digital age, increasing the demand for skills in specific disciplines. Across the United States and beyond, this evolution has led to an increased emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education at every level. Meanwhile, at US institutions of higher education, the proportion of undergraduate students who earn a degree in the humanities is declining. However, while the public discussion often pits the disciplines against one another, the sciences, arts, and humanities are—as Albert Einstein once wrote—“branches of the same tree” [(2006)The Einstein Reader]. They are mutually reinforcing. Therefore, the best way to prepare the next generation for the future of work, life, and citizenship is to provide broad, holistic educational experiences that integrate the STEM disciplines with the arts and humanities. A new study from the Board on Higher Education and Workforce of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine bolsters the case for such an approach, finding considerable evidence that the mutual integration of disciplines leads to improved educational and career outcomes for undergraduate and graduate students.

Higher education has an obligation to carry out education, research, and community service based on the tridarma of higher education. Adi Karya Technical Academy (ATAK) is one of the private universities in Kerinci Regency, and also has a vision and mission that is in line with tridharma. To support the tridharma process of education in ATAK, it use of the budget needs to be optimized. Optimize the use of the budget, one processes that possible to do predictions budget's utilization. The data processed is the use of the 2017, 2018 and 2019 budgets at ATAK Universities. The result predections use budget's get it from simulation process the monte carlo are 89.79% for predictions in 2018, 84.73% for predictions for 2019 and 85.52% for 2020. In this case the monte carlo that possible apply to do predictions budget's utilization the following year.

A participatory process is used in the design of a user-centered smoke machine, resulting in lasting benefits to the community. This program of IbM (Science and Technology for Society) has designed fish fumes that are mobile, portable and environmentally ergonomic, applying appropriate technology about fumigation so as to increase knowledge to the community. This program improve people skills especially in smoked fish production, increase employment in the field of fishery products processing business. With this activity can grow the interest of the community to entrepreneurship for those who have not started a business and will increase its business for those who have started the processing business of fishery processing. Benefits derived from IbM (Science and Technology for Society) program are, among others, reduced air pollution caused by open fish curing system so that air quality environment, especially around fish processing SMEs to be better, can support and strengthen fish processing industry in the coastal area that began to grow and especially support local SMEs, increase the quantity and quality of patents that can be generated from community service activities funded by Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Technology Research and Higher Education, Republic of Indonesia.

Professional lecturers are lecturer professionalism that includes professionalism of teaching, research, and community service. The institution has the responsibility to develop the profession of the lecturer. An important step that can be done by higher education institutions is by developing lecturer profession guidance program covering the field of teaching, research, and community service. The program of developing and fostering the professionalism of the lecturers should be combined with the demands of science, technology, art that develops expansively and qualitatively. The development and professional development of this lecturer can be done through coaching programs based on institutional needs analysis. Programs can be said to succeed if in a lecturer there has been a process of transformation of the program. This transformation process can be seen from two things, namely: (1) improvement of ability in performing a task and (2) behaviour change which is reflected in attitude, discipline and work ethic.

In the era of globalization like today, the need for information technology is very high. In daily activities, of course, cannot be separated from the use of computers. People need to add insight to the field of information technology, one of which is the use of Microsoft Word. Therefore, the implementation of this community service program intends to provide knowledge for the community around RT.002 / RW.011 Petukangan Utara Village, Pesanggrahan Sub-District, South Jakarta. This activity also aims to improve the quality of society in the field of Information Technology, especially Microsoft Word. The result of this activity is that the community is able to utilize Microsoft Word to help with various homework or office work. Also, this training is expected to be able to strengthen cooperation between Budi Luhur University and the community around RT.002 / RW.011, Petukangan Utara Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta. This activity is one manifestation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education comprising Education, Research and Community Service that must be carried out by each lecturer.

The purpose of this study was to determine how much influence self-efficacy and motivation have on the performance of Lecturers' in the College of Indonesian Aviation or Sekolah Tinggi Penerbangan Indonesia (STPI). The lecturers' self-efficacy decreases if it is not related to the disruptive era - industrial revolution 4.0. In applying Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi, lecturers have three main functions of education, research and community service. This research used an empirical approach with quantitative methods. Data collection was done by sampling with questionnaires and observation techniques. Through descriptive statistical analysis of the results of the variables Self-Efficacy (X1) and Motivation (X2) obtained from questionnaires for 30 respondents using the percentage of answers to 35 indicators. The same method in motivational variable data is for 12 indicators. Moreover, with the same method, the result data of lecturer performance variable (Y) towards 26 question indicators stated that lecturer performance at STPI is already good or high, it means that the correlation between two positive variables is solemnly strong. The result of this study indicated that self-efficacy and motivation are closely and strongly related to the effectiveness of the performance of STPI lecturers in the application of Higher Education Tridharma by STPI lecturers.
