This paper investigates contemporary approaches defined by the policies, programs or standards that favor green infrastructure in urban planning for cooling urban environments with special reference to Serbian experiences. The research results reveal an increasing emphasis on the multifunctionality of green infrastructure as well the determination to the development of policies, guidelines and standards with the support of the overall community. Further, special importance is given to policies that promote ?cool communities? strategies resulting in the increase of vegetation-covered areas, what has contributed in adapting urban environments to the impacts of climate change. In addition, this research indicates the important role of local authorities and planners in Serbia in promoting planning policies and programs that take into consideration the role of green infrastructure in terms of improving climatic conditions, quality of life and reducing energy needed for cooling and heating.

Land cover and use changes are important to study for their impact on ecosystem services and ultimately on sustainability. In urban environments, a particularly important research question addresses the relationship between urbanization-related changes and biodiversity, subject to controversies in the literature. Birds are an important ecological group, and useful for answering this question. The present study builds upon the hypothesis according to which avian diversity decreases with urbanization. In order to answer it, a sample of 4245 observations from 650 sites in Annaba, Algeria, obtained through the point abundance index method, were investigated by computing Shannon-Wiener’s diversity index and the species richness, mapping them, and analyzing the results statistically. The findings confirm the study hypothesis and are relevant for planning, as they stress the role of urban green spaces as biodiversity hotspots, and plead for the need of connecting them. From a planning perspective, the results emphasize the need for interconnecting the green infrastructure through avian corridors. Moreover, the results fill in an important lack of data on the biodiversity of the region, and are relevant for other similar Mediterranean areas. Future studies could use the findings to compare with data from other countries and continents.

Planning sustainable communities is a complex process that addresses the key areas of equitable economic, environmental and social sustainability. Nowadays the sustainable communities became the core objective in the view of building new world facing the multi and various challenges. Socio-spatial dimension represents greenspace networks integration into new development. Protecting and enhancing the existing physical assets are the pillars to achieve this goal. Green infrastructure is a new concept of planning and design that consists primarily of a hybrid hydrological / drainage network, complementing and linking existing green areas with built-in infrastructure that provides ecological functions. Green infrastructure plans apply the basic principles of landscape ecology as well as appropriate solutions for roofing and shading in urban environments, specifically: a multi-scale approach with a clear attention to the pattern, social and spatial relationships, and emphasis on social and environmental interactions. This research focuses on the socio-spatial planning communities in the view point of sustainability, analyzing previous studies, models and applications that illustrate possible spatial configurations of the green infrastructure to support and strengthen social relations with the physical side of the built environment, especially in residential neighbourhoods. The study presents theoretical models to understanding the social sustainability and guidelines for sympathetic the green infrastructure and its impact on achieving socio-spatial sustainability, taking (Sulaimaniyah Heights Residential Complex) in Sulaimaniyah city as a case study of one of the housing complexes that is still under construction, following the analytical quantitative approach methodology. The results show the importance of green infrastructure (GI) to obtain social sustainability through the use of green infrastructure as a tool to achieve socio-spatial sustainability in housing projects in areas with moderate climatic conditions.

As human living environments face increasing challenges with resilience, the concept of nature-based solutions (NBS) was proposed in recent years as a way to promote sustainable living in urban environments. Urban forests and trees play important roles in urban ecosystems, while their potential as an NBS is promising. A bibliometric analysis was first conducted to explore the research pattern of NBS in urban environments. Studies of urban forest and tree-based green infrastructure in NBS research were further investigated using a systematic literature review method. The initial studies on NBS have increased since 2015 with 493 documents published from 142 sources in over 70 countries and regions. Keyword analysis showed green infrastructure had a rather high frequency of utility and received considerable attention. As for urban forests as nature-based solutions (UF-NBS) research, the most prominent study approaches used at different scales and the main benefits and typologies of urban forest studied in the articles were identified. UF-NBS research is still relatively scarce at present. Despite the role of urban forest and trees in addressing environmental challenges being well recognized, UF-NBS studies still need to be conducted in a more comprehensive context, taking social and economic aspects into account.

The physical-geographical and climatic conditions of the territories of the steppe zone of Ukraine, where the Kakhovka irrigation system is constructed, is considered. The role of the Kakhovka main channel in increasing the volumes of production of agricultural products in the steppe areas, intensification of all branches of agriculture and increasing the fertility of the land under irrigation conditions are determined. The volumes of water use for irrigation by agricultural producers during the vegetative period have been analyzed. The normative documents regulating the quality of water for irrigation by agronomic and environmental criteria are considered. The results of the analysis of the chemical composition of the water of the Kakhovka main channel within the limits of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, Kakhovsky reservoir, in the area of the location of the Main Pumping Station, for the period 2015-2017, are presented, an environmental assessment of the quality of water used for irrigation and drinking needs was conducted. Having analyzed the materials of scientific literature and annual reports of regional departments of ecology and natural resources, the main anthropogenic sources of pollution of hydro-amelioration objects have been identified. Provided recommendations for preventing the introduction of pollutants into reclamation facilities and improving the quality of water for irrigation and drinking purposes. The possible consequences of the action of pollutants on hydrobiocenoses and the aqueous medium as a whole are determined. Also established the role of hydrobiots in the processes of self-clearing of the water from pollutants.

Urban areas have the character of increasingly dense buildings and less land that can be used for green infrastructure. So that the option to increase green open space is increasingly difficult. Along with the population growth in Kampung Arab and the low number of public facilities, the environment became very crowded and have less adequate public open spaces for the residents who lived here. Kampung Arab itself is a settlement dominated by Muslim residents who have been in this area for a long time. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of applying the pocket garden concept to Islamic residential kasawan which is currently in a congested condition. The first step is to collect data from observations, surveys and literature selection. Then, the method used to analyze is discourse analysis and selective criteria. These two processes show the results in the form of the benefits of the pocket garden concept in settlements, a map of the location at a point in Kampung Arab which can be used as a pocket garden and a map of the distance from the pocket garden to the surrounding house. These findings explain that the concept of green open space for narrow land can improve the quality of life for urban communities, especially those in Kampung Arab. Therefore, the application of the concept as a concept that is suitable for use in the future both in planning and designing in Kampung Arab, urban areas of the population. There are related professions that can work using this system such as spatial policy makers, planners, and architects.

Leadership development is an ongoing need in Africa. Good leadership is key to the building of any society. This article is written from the perspective of someone who lives in an African community of poverty. As he or she observes the many problems the African continent faces, he or she wonders about the role of the church to participate in seeking solutions to these problems. The article stresses that effective leadership development should equip people to be participants of the flourishing of their communities. It discusses the theological and missiological foundations of leadership as avenues to align leadership formation with the improvement of the quality of life of Africans living in communities of poverty. The researcher belongs to a missional community which focuses on discipling local residents, with the hope of nurturing agency from inside out. He uses the autoethnographic methodology to describe this case study of his missional community efforts.

The scale of soybeans cultivation in the world agriculture it takes a leading place among crops due to its valuable biological and economic properties. Soybeans are ahead of all other crops in terms of acreage growth. Today, the varietal spectrum has grown enormously and the gross grain yield of soybeans has increased. However, the realization of the genetic potential of modern varieties remains rather low and the average yield in Ukraine is 1,2-1,9 t/ha. First of all, maintaining and improving the quality of soybean seed is an important task, along with increasing yields. Vegetation of plants in the period of growth and development and their productivity depend in a certain way on the quality of the seed material, namely: germination, purity, sanitary condition, etc. The scientifically sound fertilizer application system combines basic and row fertilizers and fertilization of cultivated plants during the growing season. Foliar nutrition is called leaf uptake and absorption by the plant of nutrients, amino acids and growth regulators that the root system does not supply enough. The essence of such nutrition is that readily available nutrients of fertilizers enter the vegetative organs of the plants, quickly penetrate the protective wax barrier - cuticle, epidermis - and enter the cells of the plant. The permeability of epidermal cells of the multilayered cuticle depends on the concentration of the nutrient solution, the phase of growth and development, the area and nature of the cover of the leaf blade, climatic conditions, the time of feeding, the shape of the nutrient and other factors. The results of studying the influence of foliar fertilizers on the formation of soybean varieties phytocoenosis productivity and their influence on the qualitative indicators of seeds have been covered. The positive role of the foliar fertilizers action in the formation of individual productivity indicators of soybean plants was found. Foliar feeding is a measure of timely provision of balanced, composition and concentration of nutrients in ionic form – the most accessible for absorption by the leaf surface. Thus, the positive role of foliar fertilizers and varietal features of soybean in the formation of yield indicators was established. Thus, the two-time use of the Vuxal Microplant microfertilizer in the budding and green bean phases in the cultivation of Kent soybean variety allows obtaining positive indicators of the chemical composition of the seeds.

A crucial element in the human search for well-being is achieving a sense of identity within, and belonging to, the landscape in which we live. Landscape should be understood as not only the visible environment but the affective values we attach to it and how we shape it in our mind’s eye. These inner reflections of our landscapes constitute one of our richest archives, in particular, in terms of creating and passing down to future generations our cultural memories. The current paper is a review of literature on the concepts of urban heritage conservation, and, in particular, the development of the historic urban landscape (HUL) approach, with reference to the role and contribution of cultural memory and its presence in the urban landscape. We also investigate how the notions of place attachment and identity interrelate with cultural memory to elucidate how such interrelations can contribute to human psychosocial well-being and quality of life (QOL). This review points to the neglected role of cultural memory in the maintenance of psychosocial well-being in HULs, a topic which requires further research to deepen our understanding about its importance in urban environments.
