Group Psychotherapy: Group Therapist Leadership Skills

Conducting group psychotherapy is a complex yet fascinating endeavor. To be effective, a group therapist must be intentional in their approach and implementation of interventions. Some basic skills that must be mastered include confrontation of group members and behaviors, emotional stimulation of the group and individual members, and the development and enhancement of group cohesiveness. Practical skills involve the overall structure of the group, providing feedback to members and the group as a whole, modeling effective communication and interpersonal behavior, and self-disclosure in nonjudgmental manner. A group therapist also engages members to be open about themselves and with others and displays effective interpersonal communication by working with a cotherapist to model both interpersonal bonding as well as effective conflict resolution that can be generalized to the outside world. ABSTRAK Pertumbuhan komunitas motor di Indonesia merupakan sebuah realita yang dihasilkan dari perkembangan sosial masyarakat yang semakin heterogen. Sebuah komunitas motor dibentuk oleh sekelompok orang yang memiliki hubungan khusus antara mereka, komunitas cenderung diidentifikasikan sebagai dasar atas kepemilikan atau identifikai bersama diantara kelompok minat yang sama. Melalui komunitas ini, mereka saling berbagi nilai kognitif, emosi dan material juga mengembangkan interaksi antar anggota kelompok. Komunikasi interpersonal merupakan proses timbal balik yang memiliki peranan penting dalam pergaulan manusia. Anggota kelompok yang sangat kohesif saling mengkomunikasikan ide masing-masing untuk menciptakan kerjasama agar tercapai suatu tujuan yang diinginkan bersama-sama. Kohesivitas penting bagi kelompok karena ia yang menyatukan beragam anggota menjadi satu kelompok. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peranan komunikasi interpersonal terhadap kohesivitas kelompok pada komunitas motor. Hipotesis dalam penelitian ini yaitu Ada peranan Komunikasi Interpersonal Terhadap Kohesivitas Kelompok pada Komunitas Motor di Banjarbaru. Subjek dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 42 orang anggota komunitas motor. Pemilihan subjek yaitu dengan menggunakan teknik  sampling insidental. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Hasil analisa data menggunakan regresi linier sederhana yang menunjukkan bahwa ada peranan positif yang signifikan dari komunikasi interpersonal terhadap kohesivitas kelompok. Sebesar 77,8%, artinya peran komunikasi interpersonal terhadap kohesivitas kelompok cukup besar,  sisanya sebesar 22,2% dijelaskan oleh variabel lain yang tidak dimasukkan dalam penelitian ini. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada peranan komunikasi interpersonal terhadap kohesivitas kelompok pada komunitas motor. Oleh karena itu, disarankan untuk semua anggota komunitas motor mempertahankan kedekatan yang sudah terjalin serta lebih meningkatkan kekompakkan antar anggota kelompok. Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Interpersonal, Kohesivitas Kelompok, Komunitas Motor  ABSTRACT Growth of motorcycle communities in Indonesia is a reality that results from the social development of a society which is increasingly heterogeneous. A motorcycle community is established by a group of people who have a special relationship among them. This community tends to be identified as a basis for ownership or based on shared similar interests among members in the group. Through this community, they share the cognitive, emotional and material values, and also develop interaction between group members. Interpersonal communication is a reciprocal process that has an important role in human relationship. The very cohesive members in the group will mutually communicate their ideas to create cooperation in order to achieve a desired goal together. Cohesiveness is important for the group because it unites the diverse members into one group. The objective of this study was to find out the role of interpersonal communication towards group cohesiveness in motorcycle community. The hypothesis of this study was that there was a role of Interpersonal Communication towards Group Cohesiveness in Motorcycle Community in Banjarbaru. The subjects in the study were 42 members of a motorcycle community. They were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The method used in the study was a quantitative method. The results of data analysis using the simple linear regression showed that there was a significant positive role of interpersonal communication towards the group cohesiveness, as much as 77.8%, indicating that the role of interpersonal communication towards group cohesiveness was fairly high, and the remaining 22.2% was explained by other variables not included in this study. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there was a role of interpersonal communication towards group cohesiveness in motorcycle community. Therefore, it is suggested for all members of motorcycle communities to maintain the attachment already established and to further improve the togetherness among group members. Keywords: Interpersonal Communication, Group Cohesiveness, Motorcycle Community

Objective This study will evaluate how decreasing depression severity via group psychotherapy affects the cognitive function of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) who are also diagnosed with depression and cognitive dysfunction. Method MS patients completed the Brief Repeatable Battery of Neuropsychological Tests and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The group members diagnosed with depression and cognitive dysfunction underwent group psychotherapy for 3 months. Upon completion of psychotherapy, both tests were readministered. Results Depression and cognitive dysfunction were comorbid in 15 (13.9%) of patients. Although improvement was detected at the end of the 3-month group psychotherapy intervention, it was limited to the BDI and the Paced Auditory Test. Conclusion Group psychotherapy might decrease cognitive impairment in MS patients.

In small, same-sex, undergraduate discussion groups ( N = 23), self-disclosure was associated significantly with perceived group cohesiveness, but not participation. Only males' self-disclosure (Jourard's questionnaire) was associated with perceived cooperation, and only females' self-disclosure was associated significantly with perceived norms and influence. Contrary to expectation, participation was associated significantly only with males' perceived group cohesiveness including perceived cooperation, ideas, norms, liking, and influence.

Humans are social beings who need other individuals to group. In interacting with others, individuals will convey information and usually begin with an introduction relates to self disclosure, which is the type of individual communication disclosing information about himself is commonly concealed. Social media is a medium on the Internet that allows users to represent themselves, share, communicate with others and create virtual social ties. This research was intended to examine Instagram and Self Disclosure in an interpersonal communication perspective on the Santo Kristoforus II high school students to find out the activities of students on Instagram social media. Research based on Self-Disclosure theory, communication theory in the Digital Era, social media, and Instagram. Research uses a qualitative approach with case study methods. The results is that the self disclosure conducted by the informant is about daily activities, and the self disclosure is on Instagram involving several Self-Disclosure processes. In the process of Self-Disclosure, informants usually provide personal information such as feelings, thoughts and experiences, and they are also careful enough in uploading information to social mediaManusia disebut makhluk yang memerlukan seseorang untuk saling berhubungan timbal balik. Dalam berinteraksi dengan orang lain, individu akan menyampaikan berbagai informasi dan biasanya diawali dengan perkenalan mengenai dirinya, hal tersebut berkaitan dengan self disclosure, yakni jenis komunikasi individu mengungkapkan informasi tentang dirinya sendiri yang biasa disembunyikan. Media sosial saat ini digunakan penggunanya untuk berkomunikasi, membentuk relasi dengan orang lain secara virtual. Sehingga penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk meneliti Instagram dan Self Disclosure dalam Perspektif Komunikasi Antarpribadi terhadap Siswa-Siswi SMA Santo Kristoforus II untuk mengetahui aktivitas siswa-siswi di media sosial Instagram. Penelitian berlandaskan teori Self-Disclosure, Teori Komunikasi di Era Digital, Media Sosial, dan Instagram. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengungkapan diri yang dilakukan oleh informan berisi tentang aktivitas sehari-hari yang dilakukan, dan pengungkapan diri tersebut dilakukan dalam media sosial Instagram yang melibatkan beberapa proses pengungkapan diri. Dalam proses pengungkapan diri, informan biasanya memberikan informasi pribadi seperti perasaan, pikiran dan pengalaman. Dengan banyaknya informasi yang diberikan, tidak menutup kemungkinan mereka juga cukup berhati-hati dalam mengunggah informasi ke media sosial

<div class="WordSection1"><p><em><span>Group cohesiveness as a dynamic process that is seen from the interest and attachment of relationships between members is an important thing that must be owned by farmer groups. The cohesiveness of shallot farmer groups in Mijen Sub-district, Demak Regency is influenced by several factors, one of which is interpersonal attractiveness. Cohesive groups make it easier to transfer information. The purpose of this study was to examine the level of interpersonal attractiveness of farmer group members, to examine the level of cohesiveness of farmer groups and to analyze the effect of interpersonal attractiveness on the cohesiveness of the shallot farmer group. The research method used was a saturated sample by taking all groups of shallot farmers in Mijen Sub-district, Demak Regency as samples in the study. Methods of data analysis using descriptive quantitative and simple regression analysis. The results of the study indicate that the level of interpersonal attractiveness of members of the shallot farmer group in Mijen Sub-district, Demak Regency is classified as very high or reaches 46.88%. The level of group cohesiveness is high, reaching 47.70%. Interpersonal attractiveness has a significant effect of 28% on the cohesiveness of farmer groups and the other 72% is influenced by other factors outside the study. Suggestions from the research that has been carried out are to maintain the social activities that have been carried out from the simplest things</span></em><span>.</span></p></div>

Honesty is a central concept in interpersonal communication ethics, typically studied through the lens of self-disclosure in close relationships. Expanding the self-disclosure construct to encompass multiple types of messages occurring in public and private relationships offers additional insights. Across relational contexts, at least two aspects of human communication are relevant to honesty: the content dimension, which references factual information carried by a message; and the relationship dimension, which provides the implied stance or attitude toward the other and/or the relationship. This dimension provides interpretive nuance for the content dimension, its implications for honesty shaped by culture and context. This chapter considers five themes relevant to communication research—self-disclosure and restraint, Grice’s theory of conversational implicature, message design logic, communication competence, and civility, authority, and love—and explore the implications of each content area for honesty in human relationships.
