The article is devoted to the problems of studying an urbanized territory using geoinformation technologies. One of the methods used in this work is the method of spatial analysis. The Rostov region was chosen as the object of the study. The paper considers the issues of socio-economic development of the region, which is due to the urgency of the task of improving the quality of life. The analysis of various methods for studying urbanized territories made it possible to make a choice of research tools. The applied method of constructing cartograms made it possible to visually see the dynamics of changes in the socio-economic situation in the region in a long-term perspective. To obtain an objective assessment of the results obtained, the data normalization algorithm was applied. We selected data describing various social aspects in the life of the region. With the help of geoinformation technologies, the obtained indicators were ranked. This made it possible to identify bottlenecks and in the future will allow for a more detailed analysis and formulate steps to improve the socio-economic situation in the region. A similar analysis can be carried out for other groups of social objects, which is a great advantage of using this method

We propose and substantiate criteria of objective assessment of quality of work of medical staff in a hospital facility in order to restrict a length of inpatient treatment, to improve work of a doctor and a whole department and to achieve adequate material stimulation and appropriate wages. The criteria consider economic, medical and social aspects, allow computerized analysis of a doctor's and a department work, systematic analysis on clinical conferences and disclosure of factors worsening the quality of inpatients treatment.

BACKGROUND Exercise has proven to reduce pain and increase quality of life among people living with osteoarthritis (OA). However, one major challenge is adherence to exercise once supervision ends. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to identify mental and physical barriers and motivational and social aspects of training at home, and to test or further develop an exercise app. METHODS The study was inspired from participatory design, engaging users in the research process. Data were collected through focus groups and workshops, and analyzed by systematic text condensation. RESULTS Three main themes were found: competition as motivation, training together, and barriers. The results revealed that the participants wanted to do their training and had knowledge on exercise and pain but found it hard to motivate themselves. They missed the observation, comments, and encouragement by the supervising physiotherapist as well as their peers. Ways to optimize the training app were identified during the workshops as participants shared their experience. CONCLUSIONS This study concludes that the long-term continuation of exercising for patients with OA could be improved with the use of a technology tailored to users’ needs, including motivational and other behavioral factors.

The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of a dance program on the quality of life of elderly people living in a long-stay institution located in the interior of the State of São Paulo. This is an action research. Nine elderly, aged between 63 and 93 years, of both sexes, participated in the study. The Quality of Life Questionnaire - SF-36 was applied. Subsequently, the interventions were initiated, through the dance (zumba) from the rhythms: Salsa, Cumbia, Merengue, Reggaeton, twice a week. After two months of intervention, the questionnaire was reapplied. The data were analyzed from the parameters for quality of life classification in which zero corresponds to a poor rating and 100 to an excellent rating. There was an improvement in general health and social aspects. It is concluded that a dance program can contribute to the improvement in the quality of life of elderly people living in a long-term institution.

Background: Nusinersen is approved for spinal muscular amyotrophy type I,II,III and is available for adult and pediatric populations since January 2019 at the CHU de Québec-UL. Methods: Patients who received at least one dose of nusinersen between January 2019 and March 2021 were included. Required information was gathered from patients’ charts. Results: Ten adults (70 injections) and 23 infants and children (202 injections) were included. No child but two adults stopped the therapy for personal reasons. Tests were performed at 0, 6, 18, 24 months when possible to assess efficacy, tolerability and quality of life perception (Table 1). Preliminary data shows stabilization or improvement for many tests. Conclusions: Nusinersen is well tolerated. Favorable effects were observed in both populations. A monitoring is still imperative for an objective assessment and for evaluation of the most relevant tests. Long term benefits remain to be demonstrated but results are encouraging.

Abstract Purpose: This article addresses several intervention approaches that aim to improve life for individuals with severe aphasia. Because severe aphasia significantly compromises language, often for the long term, recommended approaches focus on additional domains that affect quality of life. Treatments are discussed that involve increasing participation in personally relevant life situations, enhancing environmental support for communication and participation, and improving communicative confidence. Methods: Interventions that have been suggested in the aphasia literature as particularly appropriate for people with severe aphasia include training in total communication, training of communication partners, and activity specific training. Conclusion: Several intervention approaches can be implemented to enhance life with severe aphasia.

The organizational structure of long-term care (LTC) facilities often removes the rehab department from the interdisciplinary work culture, inhibiting the speech-language pathologist's (SLP's) communication with the facility administration and limiting the SLP's influence when implementing clinical programs. The SLP then is unable to change policy or monitor the actions of the care staff. When the SLP asks staff members to follow protocols not yet accepted by facility policy, staff may be unable to respond due to confusing or conflicting protocol. The SLP needs to involve members of the facility administration in the policy-making process in order to create successful clinical programs. The SLP must overcome communication barriers by understanding the needs of the administration to explain how staff compliance with clinical goals improves quality of care, regulatory compliance, and patient-family satisfaction, and has the potential to enhance revenue for the facility. By taking this approach, the SLP has a greater opportunity to increase safety, independence, and quality of life for patients who otherwise may not receive access to the appropriate services.
