Survey of Cloud Computing in Healthcare Sector

Today the volume of healthcare data generated increased rapidly because of the number of patients in each hospital increasing.  These data are most important for decision making and delivering the best care for patients. Healthcare providers are now faced with collecting, managing, storing and securing huge amounts of sensitive protected health information. As a result, an increasing number of healthcare organizations are turning to cloud based services. Cloud computing offers a viable, secure alternative to premise based healthcare solutions. The infrastructure of Cloud is characterized by a high volume storage and a high throughput. The privacy and security are the two most important concerns in cloud-based healthcare services. Healthcare organization should have electronic medical records in order to use the cloud infrastructure. This paper surveys the challenges of cloud in healthcare and benefits of cloud techniques in health care industries.

Healthcare of individuals is very important; hence, the healthcare data needs to be managed very professionally. These requirements have become more stringent with the population aging and the growing attention to healthcare by the people. Cloud computing has emerged as a prominent solution to the computing demands of healthcare organizations, and a number of cloud-based solutions are available in the market. However, different users of the healthcare systems have different expectations from the cloud, and these must be taken into account while migrating to cloud. This article presents the implications of cloud computing solutions for the present day healthcare scenario. Prominent cloud-based healthcare services have been presented along with their specific applications. Considering the different users of healthcare systems, a holistic approach has been presented for the deployment of a cloud-based healthcare system. The deployment approach is suitable for all different levels of the healthcare organizations.

BACKGROUND The complicated nature of cloud computing encompassing internet-based technologies and service models for delivering IT applications, processing capability, storage, and memory space and some notable features motivate organizations to migrate their core businesses to the cloud. Consequently, healthcare organizations are much interested to migrate to this new paradigm despite challenges about security, privacy and compliances issues. OBJECTIVE The present study was conducted to investigate all related cloud compliances in health domain in order to find gaps in this context. METHODS All works on cloud compliance issues were surveyed after 2013 in health domain in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Digital Library databases. RESULTS Totally, 36 compliances had been found in this domain used in different countries for a variety of purposes. Initially, all founded compliances were divided into three parts as well as five standards, twenty-eight legislations and three policies and guidelines each of which is presented here by in detail. CONCLUSIONS Then, some main headlines like compliance management, data management, data governance, information security services, medical ethics, and patients' rights were recommended in terms of any compliance or frameworks and their corresponding patterns which should be involved in this domain.

Like other fields, the healthcare sector has also been greatly impacted by big data. A huge volume of healthcare data and other related data are being continually generated from diverse sources. Tapping and analysing these data, suitably, would open up new avenues and opportunities for healthcare services. In view of that, this paper aims to present a systematic overview of big data and big data analytics, applicable to modern-day healthcare. Acknowledging the massive upsurge in healthcare data generation, various ‘V's, specific to healthcare big data, are identified. Different types of data analytics, applicable to healthcare, are discussed. Along with presenting the technological backbone of healthcare big data and analytics, the advantages and challenges of healthcare big data are meticulously explained. A brief report on the present and future market of healthcare big data and analytics is also presented. Besides, several applications and use cases are discussed with sufficient details.

Purpose In the last few decades, the effectiveness of the evaluation of human resources and their performances has become a crucial theme in the debates of the public sector. The purpose of this paper is to analyze key design characteristics of performance management system (PMS) that may be effectively adopted and deployed by management to enable the assessment for a health system improvement. Design/methodology/approach This paper falls under the field of studies that focuses on the design and implementation of PMS in the healthcare sector. This research adopted a qualitative approach across the case study method to understand the role of different contextual factors and their impact upon the design of PMS. Mainly drawing on previous studies on the Italian regional health systems, a target region has been selected for these purposes. Findings As a result, the new PMS was effectively working and was structured with a balanced focus on the region and the single healthcare organizations. The need for improving the information systems within the healthcare organizations was strongly emphasized. The crucial element of the new PMS was the transparency about the assessment procedures. Originality/value This paper contributes to the debate on factors that can influence the design of PMS in healthcare. Relying on a contingent approach, the authors put forward the need of a more comprehensive and integrated frameworks encompassing organic conception of PMSs, as well as of the interdependencies among their components.

Over the past few years, concerns related to healthcare data privacy have been mounting since healthcare information has become more digitized, distributed and mobile. However, very little is known about the root cause of data breach incidents; making it difficult for healthcare organizations to establish proper security controls and defenses. Through a systematic review and synthesis of data breaches literature, and using databases of earlier reported healthcare data breaches, the authors re-examine and analyze the causal factors behind healthcare data breaches. The authors then use the Swiss Cheese Model (SCM) to shed light on the technical, organizational and human factors of these breaches. The author's research suggests that incorporating the SCM concepts into the healthcare security policies and procedures can assist healthcare providers in assessing the vulnerabilities and risks associated with the maintenance and transmission of protected health information.

Abstract There has been noteworthy issues that must be tackled by the healthcare sector along with handling the security concerns that are intensely linked with offering of healthcare services, inculcating novel electronic healthcare systems, and secure data communication with different healthcare and government institutions. These security related concerns project several privacy preserving methodologies pertaining to the privacy and security of EHRs (electronic health records) in the cloud. The EHRs comprises of information related to demographics, medical histories, digital images, medications, lab reports, billing details and other sensitive patient information. All this sensitive patient information is kept highly secured and resides in third party servers with definite access controlling mechanism. The conventional system employs various cryptography algorithm for authorization, encryption, decryption, key generation and validation algorithms. There is proposal of a new cryptography algorithm for combating the limitations of AES, RSA and ABS. For securing the healthcare data residing in the cloud, the research presents effective utilization of new hybrid cryptography algorithm and Blockchain technology with smart contract. Unlike the prevailing three cryptographic algorithms, the proposed algorithm offers enhanced time, accuracy, efficiency and key generation and performance. Overall, there is a drastic transformation in securing the healthcare records using the proposed approach.

The ageing population, increasing pollution, and lethargic life style of human beings are some of the primary reasons for the growth of healthcare sector. Indian entrepreneurs have observed this growth opportunities and providing healthcare services in multiple ways. However, the literature emphasizes that without integrating information technology in existing healthcare facilities, quality service cannot be rendered to a large number of patients. With this backdrop, the present study is a novel endeavour to explore the role of information technology in Indian healthcare services. It aims to explain the relevance and dimensions of information technology in relation to healthcare services and examines the empirical relationship between identified dimensions and some demographical factors (age, educational qualification, income, and gender).The results of this study can be beneficial to healthcare professionals, service enablers, implementing agencies, and policy makers. Limitations, further research directions and conclusions have been discussed.

Digital transformation in healthcare services has massive potential to ensure healthcare quality, accessibility, equality & affordability in developing countries. Bangladesh is not exception to this trend for digitalization of healthcare sector as a part of vision 2021 of digital Bangladesh. This paper aims to explore the current standing of the digital transformation in healthcare services sector of the public, private & NGOs, as well as the managerial and technical challenges facing the digitalization of healthcare projects in Bangladesh. The digital transformation in healthcare is at the introductory stage in Bangladesh. Studies explored that although digitalization of this sector remains somewhat problematic, the difficulties and challenges could be overcome. Due to lack of technological knowhow, literacy, poverty, trust, attitudes, resistance to change and infrastructural facilities, this project does not work effectively and efficiently. Based on the assessment of this sector, the scope of some fields requires further improvement. The findings will help government agencies, policymakers, healthcare providers and mobile phone companies to make effective decisions regarding the digitalization of Healthcare services.

Healthcare providers have reasons to consider telemedicine technologies when determining the best practices for service provision. The use of such technologies in developing countries is still limited, and it is important to examine the readiness to telemedicine solutions at an organisational level in developing countries such as Libya in order to provide healthcare services. Therefore, a model was proposed and validated to assess telemedicine readiness in Libya from the healthcare providers' perspective. Healthcare providers' operational capability and telemedicine outcome expectations were also investigated. The results highlight that the level of telemedicine readiness could be influenced by various health-specific organisational factors including organisational capabilities and resources. The findings of this research are that various organisational factors have an impact on telemedicine readiness and thus on the implementation of such technology including healthcare providers' human resources, IT infrastructure, perceived ease of use, and prospective healthcare providers.

The efficacy, quality, responsiveness, and value of healthcare services provided is increasingly attracting the attention and the questioning of governments, payers, patients, and healthcare providers. Investments on integration technologies and integration of supply chain processes, has been considered as a way towards removing inefficiencies in the sector. This chapter aims to initially provide an in depth analysis of the healthcare supply chain and to present core entities, processes, and flows. Moreover, the chapter explores the concept of integration in the context of the healthcare sector, and indentifies the integration drivers, as well as challenges.
