Empirical Study of Telemedicine Readiness in the Healthcare Sector in Developing Countries

Healthcare providers have reasons to consider telemedicine technologies when determining the best practices for service provision. The use of such technologies in developing countries is still limited, and it is important to examine the readiness to telemedicine solutions at an organisational level in developing countries such as Libya in order to provide healthcare services. Therefore, a model was proposed and validated to assess telemedicine readiness in Libya from the healthcare providers' perspective. Healthcare providers' operational capability and telemedicine outcome expectations were also investigated. The results highlight that the level of telemedicine readiness could be influenced by various health-specific organisational factors including organisational capabilities and resources. The findings of this research are that various organisational factors have an impact on telemedicine readiness and thus on the implementation of such technology including healthcare providers' human resources, IT infrastructure, perceived ease of use, and prospective healthcare providers.

Today the volume of healthcare data generated increased rapidly because of the number of patients in each hospital increasing.  These data are most important for decision making and delivering the best care for patients. Healthcare providers are now faced with collecting, managing, storing and securing huge amounts of sensitive protected health information. As a result, an increasing number of healthcare organizations are turning to cloud based services. Cloud computing offers a viable, secure alternative to premise based healthcare solutions. The infrastructure of Cloud is characterized by a high volume storage and a high throughput. The privacy and security are the two most important concerns in cloud-based healthcare services. Healthcare organization should have electronic medical records in order to use the cloud infrastructure. This paper surveys the challenges of cloud in healthcare and benefits of cloud techniques in health care industries.

Mobile information and communication technology changed how people and businesses can benefit from government public services at any time and from anyplace. The success or failure of mobile government services is becoming more dependent on satisfying the needs and the expectations of both citizens and business organizations. This paper reviews and analyses some existing empirical studies that examine m-Government acceptance in some developing countries. Then, a new integrated conceptual model for examining some important key factors that may affect m-Government acceptance in Jordan from user perspective was proposed.  An empirical test was conducted using a questionnaire to explore the effect of the following factors: Trust in mobile channel, trust in government, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, service quality and user satisfaction on the behavioural intention to use m-Government applications. Finally, justification of the proposed integrated model and formulation of the associated hypotheses was conducted.

Abstract Background Telepresence robots used to deliver a point-of-care (POC) consultation system that may provide value to enable effective decision making by healthcare providers at care sites. Objectives This study aimed to evaluate usability of teleconsultation robots, based on endusers' needs, that can improve acceptance in future robot applications. Methods This is a single group postdesign study using mixed methods to assess the usability of teleconsultation robots using scenarios. To collect opinions from various departments, 15 nurses or physicians currently working at medical institutions in Korea were selected using purposive sampling. The usability evaluation was conducted on healthcare providers twice at the simulation center; the think-aloud method was used and surveys and interviews were conducted to identify problems or improvements that may arise from the use of robots in hospital settings. Results The results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and satisfaction level each scored 4 points or higher out of 7 points, showing usability of midhigh level. Camera angle control and robot driving functions were the most difficult. Other basic robot user interface was shown to be relatively easy. There was no difference in usability depending on the characteristics of the evaluator. Some functions including user interface were modified based on the usability test. Conclusion Using robots in health care institutions may support effective communication among healthcare providers, thus contributing to health care improvement.

With technological possibilities in healthcare steadily increasing, more tools for digital cognitive rehabilitation become available. Acceptance of such technological advances is crucial for successful implementation. Therefore, we examined technology acceptance specifically for this form of rehabilitation in a sample of healthcare providers involved in cognitive rehabilitation. An adjusted version of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) questionnaire was used, including the subscales for perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norm (toward use), and intention to use, which all contribute to actual use of a specific technology. Results indicate a generally favorable attitude toward the use of digital cognitive rehabilitation and positive responses toward the TAM constructs. Only for subjective norm, a neutral mean response was found, indicating that this could pose a potential obstacle toward implementation. Potential differences between subgroups of different age, gender, and professional background were assessed. Age and gender did not affect the attitude toward digital cognitive rehabilitation. Occupational therapists showed lower scores than healthcare psychologists and physiatrists with regard to perceived usefulness, possibly linked to a difference in operational and managerial tasks. The findings of his study stimulate further implementation of digital cognitive rehabilitation, where the role of subjective norms should be specifically considered.

Digital transformation in healthcare services has massive potential to ensure healthcare quality, accessibility, equality & affordability in developing countries. Bangladesh is not exception to this trend for digitalization of healthcare sector as a part of vision 2021 of digital Bangladesh. This paper aims to explore the current standing of the digital transformation in healthcare services sector of the public, private & NGOs, as well as the managerial and technical challenges facing the digitalization of healthcare projects in Bangladesh. The digital transformation in healthcare is at the introductory stage in Bangladesh. Studies explored that although digitalization of this sector remains somewhat problematic, the difficulties and challenges could be overcome. Due to lack of technological knowhow, literacy, poverty, trust, attitudes, resistance to change and infrastructural facilities, this project does not work effectively and efficiently. Based on the assessment of this sector, the scope of some fields requires further improvement. The findings will help government agencies, policymakers, healthcare providers and mobile phone companies to make effective decisions regarding the digitalization of Healthcare services.

The efficacy, quality, responsiveness, and value of healthcare services provided is increasingly attracting the attention and the questioning of governments, payers, patients, and healthcare providers. Investments on integration technologies and integration of supply chain processes, has been considered as a way towards removing inefficiencies in the sector. This chapter aims to initially provide an in depth analysis of the healthcare supply chain and to present core entities, processes, and flows. Moreover, the chapter explores the concept of integration in the context of the healthcare sector, and indentifies the integration drivers, as well as challenges.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are important for improving healthcare services worldwide. Using tools related to ICTs such as smartphones (cell phones), video conferencing, computers enhances the delivery of health services as well as electronic health (e-health). Therefore, this study's main objective is to investigate the e-health readiness for higher education institution students in an emerging country (Botswana). The study achieved this by identifying the readiness factors that affect the adoption of e-health using the conceptual framework (technology readiness and acceptance model for e-health). The study established that students' optimism, innovativeness, discomfort, and insecurity influence e-health perceived ease of use. However, only optimism and discomfort influence e-health perceived usefulness whereas innovativeness and insecurity did not influence e-health perceived usefulness. Additionally, the study found out that e-health perceived usefulness and e-health perceived ease of use have an influence on e-health adoption.

Digital learning technologies have changed the face of the higher education sector and will continue to do so. The universities are using the digital LMS innovation (DLMS) tools that are unique to their environment. Different universities have different DLMS tools that are software driven and allow the users (management, instructors, and students) to use them for regular tasks. This study aims to investigate the acceptance and use of a DLMS at Jordanian universities. It also aims to examine the relationships among users (students and instructors), IT infrastructure, Jordanian culture, perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and acceptance of a DLMS. The study focuses on conviction of the users to use the digital system in a way to simplify their regular tasks. Findings are reported from data that were collected from 326 DLMS users.

Objective - The aim of this paper is to investigate the critical factors that will affect the decision to adopt home grown medical technology in developing countries, specifically in Malaysian health care centres. Methodology/Technique - This study integrated two models namely TOE (Technological, Organizational, and Environmental) model, and TAM model that was empirically tested among the healthcare organizations in Malaysia to achieve the aim of the study. Questionnaire strategy was employed to collect the data from key personnel in Selangor hospitals. Findings - The achieved results revealed that the most important critical factors are perceived ease of use, compatibility, relative advantages, manager's attitude and organizational readiness. In academia, this study can be used as a reference for future research in this subject and as for practitioners. Cost bearers in the healthcare sector have to prevent fraudulent invoicing by third parties at their expense so as not to expose themselves to breach of trust under German law. However, not all of them are equally committed to protecting the money of insured people and taxpayers against fraudulent practices. In this book, the author, whose investigation of a nationwide healthcare fraud scandal was extensively covered by the media, draws attention to this issue. Starting with a description of Germany’s dual healthcare system and typical manipulations regarding the invoicing of healthcare services, he highlights the risks under criminal law that cost bearers face in connection with fraudulent invoicing.
