All kinds of seismic insulation systems are widely used to protect various structures and buildings, including unique ones, against earthquakes. The efficiency of such systems depends significantly on the competent selection of damping parameters. The article considers a general approach to selecting optimal damping parameters, both by the criterion of absolute accelerations and by the kinematic criterion. The optimization criterion for unique structures is also proposed.

Addition of dampers to a base isolator reduces base displacements but may increase floor accelerations and interstory drifts. This paper presents a “selective control approach” for the design of base-isolated active controlled structures with Controlled Stiffness Dampers (CSD). According to this approach the dampers are activated only within a given range of the base displacement. The optimal damping forces are calculated according to structure's displacements and velocities. However, because of the CS dampers' structure the actual application of the forces is independent of the displacement and the velocity that are transferred to the device. These forces depend only on the geometry and on the mechanical properties of the devices' springs. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated in a numerical example.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendesain Rumah Susun yang layak huni bagi Buruh PT KIMA Makassar melalui pendekatan yang humanis, sejalan dengan kebutuhan kaum buruh sehari-hari untuk beristirahat, sekaligus memaksimalkan potensi perancangan tapak yang menunjang interaksi sosial dan rekreasi. Pemilihan lokasi Rumah Susun berada di dalam kawasan PT KIMA yang dapat ditempuh berjalan kaki sehingga dapat menunjang produktivitas kerja serta memberikan waktu lebih banyak untuk berinteraksi dengan keluarga. Material yang digunakan adalah kontainer bekas sebab ketersediaannya yang cukup banyak dan kemudahan dalam proses pembangunannya serta memiliki bentuk yang dapat disusun secara modular. Perancangan yang humanis terhadap material kontainer ini dicapai melalui perancangan ruang-ruang yang menunjang kenyamanan akses, kenyamanan termal, dan interaksi sosial. Massa bangunan ditata agar mampu memaksimalkan pengkondisian iklim mikro secara alami. Pada unit-unitnya dirancang dengan memaksimalkan bukaan untuk pencahayaan dan penghawaan alami, serta dengan sistem insulasi menggunakan material glass wool. Ruang-ruang diatur agar memungkinkan interaksi sosial. Ruang-ruang terbuka dan komunal dioptimalkan, seperti pada area selasar dan taman-taman di dalam tapak.The purpose of this research is to design a decent housing for PT KIMA Makassar laborers through a humanistic approach, in line with the needs of the daily laborers to rest, while maximizing the potential of site design that supports social interaction and recreation. The selection of flats location is within PT KIMA area which can be reached on foot so that it can support work productivity and give more time to interact with family. The material used is used shipping container because of its considerable availability and ease of construction process as well as has a form that can be arranged in modular. The humanist design of the container material is achieved through the design of spaces that facilitate access comfort, thermal comfort, and social interaction. Building masses are designed to maximize microclimate conditioning naturally. The units are designed to maximize openings for natural lighting and cross ventilation, as well as with insulation systems using glass wool material. Spaces are arranged to allow for social interaction. The open and communal spaces are optimized, as in the lobby area and the gardens within the site.

The article reflects the opinion that the choice of optimal engineering solution to ensure acoustic comfort in a specific urban or rural area should be based, first of all, on the use of two criteria: environmental efficiency and energy efficiency. The article proposes using, along with environmental efficiency, an additional optimization criterion - energy efficiency of the process for modern conditions of multi-criteria selection of engineering solutions in the field of providing acoustic comfort (ecological safety) in urban and rural areas. The article gives a justification for the need to apply the criterion of energy efficiency in this area and also presents the results of the obtained mathematical dependencies.

The performance of support vector mchine (SVM) depends on the selection of model parameters, however, the selection of SVM model parameters more depends on the empirical value. According to the above deficiency, this paper proposed a parameters optimization method of support vector machine based on immune memory clone strategy (IMC). This method can solve the multi-peak model parameters selection problem better which is introduced by n-folded cross-verification. Tests on standard datasets show that this method has higher precision and faster optimization speed compared with other four methods. Then the proposed method was applied to bus passenger flow counting. The experimental results show that the method reposed in this paper obtains higher classification accuracy.

In this paper the influence of selected kinematic parameters on the geometrical results of the single-sided lapping process was presented. The purpose of parameters optimization is to improve the flatness and quality of the machined surfaces. The basic optimization criterion is the uniformity of tool wear. The simulation and experimental results were presented and compared.

A marine equipment optimization depends on the determined criteria. Optimal equipment production and its usage instead of the standard one, could increase the investment costs resulting in the increase of the payback period and the important characteristic of the marine equipment should be in accordance with the technical rules of the classification society and the international conventions. In some cases the optimization of marine equipment is possible and desirable. The paper deals with the refrigerating systems in general and especially with the refrigerating compressor, the most expensive part of the system. The optimization criterion is the minimization of the total costs of the refrigerating system. The model should show the way to decrease refrigerating system costs and give an information tool for a quicker selection of refrigerating system elements.

A procedure of a multistage axial compressor (MAC) parameters optimization in stochastic setting has been offered. The procedure allows to obtain a stable solution from the point of view of its practical realization. A concept of robustness (stability) of turbomachine optimum design has been introduced, and the criteria of stability degree evaluation of complex technical objects optimum solution have been also suggested. With reference to determining optimum laws to control the rows of MAC, modeled in 2-D axisymmetric setting, there are presented the results of the comparative analysis of the solutions obtained both with using the traditional (deterministic) approach and the proposed stochastic setting, which allows to increase the possibility to realize the technical solution by more than two times. Analysis of the results shows that the value of optimization criterion obtained in stochastic setting doesn’t practically worsen the value of optimization criterion obtained in deterministic approach.
