The modern era has had both positive and negative impacts on the progress of human civilization. The positive impact can be seen from the increasing advances in technology and science that help human life. Meanwhile, one of the negative impacts that emerged from the modern era is the spread of mental health problems in society. Not a few in modern society there are several symptoms and mental health problems that make it difficult for someone to find happiness. This article aims to explain efforts to cleanse the soul in Islamic tradition such as the pattern of cleansing the soul by Ibn Tufail. By using a descriptive critical analysis method with this type of literature research, this research found several important points. First, tazkiyya al-nafs is an important effort that must be made by someone to get a sense of happiness. Second, one of the important strategies and ways to get happiness according to Ibn Tufail is to attain knowledge of God. Third, if someone has come to the knowledge of God, then he will come to Ma'rifatullah. The attainment of this ma'rifatullah stage can only be achieved by someone if that person has cleansed his soul. With tazkiyya al-nafs that is done consistently one will come to what is called musyahadatullah or ma'rifah billah.

Background: A non-pharmaceutical treatment offered as psychological support is bibliotherapy, which can be described as the process of reading, reflecting, and discussing literature to further a cognitive shift. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic demands a response to prevent a peak in the prevalence of mental health problems and to avoid the collapse of mental health services, which are scarce and inaccessible due to the pandemic. Thus, this study aimed to review articles on the effectiveness of bibliotherapy on different mental health problems. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to examine relevant studies that assess the effectiveness of bibliotherapy in different clinical settings as a treatment capable of enhancing a sense of purpose and its surrounding values. To achieve this, a systematic review, including a bioethical meta-analysis, was performed. A variant of the PICO (Participants, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome) model was used for the search strategy, and the systematic review was conducted in three databases: PubMed, Bireme, and OVID. Inclusion criteria were relevant studies that included the keywords, excluding documents with irrelevant topics, studies on subjects 15 years or younger, and in languages besides Spanish or English. Starting with 707 studies, after three rounds of different quality criteria, 13 articles were selected for analysis, including a hermeneutic analysis, which was followed by a fourth and final recovery round assessing bibliotherapy articles concerning healthcare workers. Results: Our findings showed that through bibliotherapy, patients developed several capacities, including the re-signification of their own activities through a new outlook of their moral horizon. There are no research road maps serving as guides to conduct research on the use of bibliotherapy to enhance mental health. Additionally, values such as autonomy and justice were closely linked with positive results in bibliotherapy. This implies that bibliotherapy has the potential to have a positive impact in different settings. Conclusions: Our contribution is to offer a road map that presents state-of-the-art bibliotherapy research, which will assist institutions and healthcare professionals to plan clinical and specific interventions with positive outcomes.

AbstractLarge psycho-education groups are being increasingly used in mental-health promotion and the treatment of common mental-health problems. In individual therapy there is a well-established link between therapist empathy, therapeutic relationship and patient outcome but the role of empathy within large psycho-educational groups is unknown. This service evaluation investigated the impact of a 6-week large psycho-education group on patient outcome and the role of perceived therapist empathy on outcome. Within a before–after experimental design, 66 participants completed baseline and endpoint measures; Clinical Outcome Routine Evaluation (CORE), Patient Enablement Instrument (PEI), and the modified Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE) measure. The results showed that the intervention had a positive impact on patient outcome; the CORE score reduced significantly over the 6 weeks by 0.63 (95% CI 0.82–1.14) (t= 9.18, d.f. = 55,p= <0.001) and attendees felt highly enabled. Attendees perceived the course leader as highly empathetic. However, the relationship between perceived empathy and attendee outcome was less clear; no significant relationship was found with the main outcome measure (the change in CORE score). Factors that influenced the main outcome included age, symptom severity at baseline, having a long-term illness or disability, and whether attendees tried the techniques at home (homework). These findings suggest that large group psycho-education is an effective treatment for mild to moderate mental-health problems, at least in the short term. The role of therapist empathy remains ambiguous but may be important for some patient outcomes.

As another evidence of the emergence of psychiatry from the hospital and the new concept of its role in society, this book offers an excellent integration of mental health theory and practices in their relation to a multitude of social problems. Prompted, apparently, by the advances of psychiatry during the war period and including a thorough study of the mental health problems of the veteran, this book is a compendium of modern resources in the field with some thoughts on the varying usefulness of their application. The first part deals with the lessons of the war itself and contains, in addition to a chapter on the psychiatric services in the armed forces and the emergency measure for dealing with the veteran, an excellent chapter on "The Psychiatric Disabilities of War: Dynamics and Motivation."

COVID-19 pandemic affects all aspects of human life, not only health, but also economic, education, and daily activity. The sudden changes caused a mental burden for the majority of people. Moreover, the infodemic might increase the burden. Unfortunately, not all people aware of their mental health, and the negative stigma from the community leads the patient to hesitate for sharing and seeking help. Therefore, an anonymous online supporting group (www.laluibersama.com) is developed to increase awareness of mental health and provided the facility to share and to support users. This site consists of several basic information and articles regarding COVID-19, emphasizes on pharmacotherapy and mental health issues, sharing forum, and mental health calculator based on depression, anxiety, and stress scales (DASS 21). From the evaluation, 53.61% of users choose mental health calculators as the most favorite page, followed by article (29.90%), homepage (12.37%), and sharing page (4.12%). Most of the respondents agree that the mental health calculator is unique and useful, therefore can be used as a screening of mental health problems prior to seeking health professional help. Taken together, mental health needs more attention in this pandemic due to the increasing burden, and the screening of mental health problems and sharing to alleviate the users’ burden can be performed at www.lalui bersama.com.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects of human life, regardless of the impact on mental health. Mental health is an essential issue because many people experience mental health problems, but they are appropriately not resolved. There are many methods in solving mental health problems, but not all of them can reach people due to distance, time, and costs. This study aims to explain the findings regarding an application made to minimize problems, maintain, and improve the mental health of an application called Soodo. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. From the findings of this study, this application can help to maintain and improve people's mental health. The results from system user testing (SUS) showed a satisfactory assessment of the Soodo application. From the results of calculations using the (SUS) method, the statistical results of the evaluation of the Soodo application prototype are Excellent or at grade A.

Poetry writing is a creative activity and, as such, may contribute to intervention. The aim of this study was to explore the impact of poetry writing on individuals who had experienced mental health problems in the past. A qualitative approach, that of grounded theory, was used, including observations of a poetry writing group and in-depth semi-structured interviews with two group participants who had a previous history of mental health problems. The main categories that emerged during data analysis were creation, communication, connection and awareness; these categories were unified by a central concept of personal meaning. The findings suggest that poetry writing creates and communicates meaning. In addition, internal connection (with self) and external connection (with others) may be facilitated through the communication of poetry. Communication and experiences of connection can lead to a greater awareness of self and others. Personal meaning is central to human life in symbolisation processes, which contribute to identity building. The positive and negative impacts on mental health through the writing of poetry and participating in a group were identified. This is a small study and the findings are valid only in the immediate context of the study, but it provides a basis for further research.

Abstract Background Globally 10-20% of children and adolescents are suffering from mental health disorders. Improving mental health literacy (MHL) of teachers supports early detection and referral of children with mental health problems.Aim To develop and conduct a training program to improve teachers’ MHL, “Sisu Sitha Noridawa (SSN)” (not hurting students’ feelings) in central Sri Lanka (SL) and to explore the effect of the intervention on teacher MHL.Method 251 teachers participated in the study. Psychiatrist authors first facilitated small group discussions on ten case vignettes of common child psychiatry problems and then large group discussions using mini lectures and a handbook. Pre and post-tests were conducted to assess knowledge and attitudes on mental health problems of school children. The scores were analyzed using, Paired T-test in SPSS 17.Results The mean score differences of pre and posttest in both knowledge and attitude components showed statistically significant differences with p values <0.001 (confidence interval of 95%) and Cohen’s d values >0.2 in each, indicating the training had a significant positive impact on improving both the knowledge and attitude about mental health. Conclusion The training program had a significant positive impact on improving the MHL of participant teachers on common child and adolescent mental health problems. The sustainability of achieved effects and their application in classroom need exploration in a long-term study. SSN is a feasible and effective training program to be included in the existing teacher-training curriculum with in-service booster SSN programs, in a middle-income country like SL.
