Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, all teachers in Indonesia are required to teach students remotely using appropriate online teaching platforms. There various teaching platforms to be utilized such as Whatsapp, Edmodo, Google Classroom, Ruang-Guru, Kahoot, Google Meet, Zoom Cloud, etc. These platforms enable the teachers to simply interacting with the students in teaching-learning processes. The objective of this research is to explore the Indonesian English teacher’ perceptions on using online teaching platforms. This research uses a quantitative approach. The subject of this research is 40 English teachers of Senior High Schools in Kampar, Riau. Questionnaires are used as a technique of collecting data. Results prove that most of the English teachers have positive perceptions on the usefulness, ease of use, and accessibility aspects of online teaching platforms.

The 21st century requires teachers to be able to integrate 21st century skills into the teaching learning process. A study on analyzing teachers’ readiness in conducting the teaching learning process based on 21st century skills in Bali has not been conducted yet. Hence, this study aimed at analyzing the Elementary English teachers’ readiness in conducting teaching learning process based on 21st century skills. This study which was done at SDK Marsudirini Negara School in Jembrana Regency used sequential embedded mixed-method as the design. The subject were one of the school principals and the English teacher. The data were obtained through questionnaires, observations, document analysis, and interview then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The respondents perceived themselves as ready in conducting teaching learning process based on 21st century skills. However, the 21st century skills were not entirely inserted into the teaching learning process and the teachers are expected to be aware of the changes in the education field.

This study was attempted to improve students’ achievement in writing narrativetext by watching movies. This study was conducted by using classroom action researchin two cycles. Cycle I consisted of four meetings while Cycle II consisted of twomeetings. The subject of the research was class VIII-A SMP SWASTA IMMANUELMEDAN. The number of the students was 34. To collect the data, the instruments werequantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data was the scores of the studentsand the qualitative data was interview sheets, observation sheets, and diary notes. Basedon the writing score, students’ score were improving in every test. It can be seen inOrientation test, Test I in Cycle I, and Test II in Cycle II. In Orientation test, the meanscore was 37.94 then it was improved to 65.85 in Test I. In the end of cycle II, the meanscore for test II was again improved to 83.41. Based on interview sheets, observationsheets and diary notes, it was found that teaching-learning process ran well. In line withthe data, it showed that the application of watching movies significantly improvedstudent’s achievement in writing narrative text. English teachers were suggested to givemovies to be watched as guidance on students’ narrative writing in the class.

The aim of the study was  to  analyze  and  describe  the  process of  improving students’ listening skill for eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Majene, West Sulawesi Province through  watching English movies. The subject of this research is XI Agama 2 Class that consisted of 16 students. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which the writer works  collaboratively with the English teacher. The results in this study indicate that there  was  improvement of the students’ skill listening. Most of the students gradually gained good scores at the end of the cycle. The data were collected from a questionnaire, observation note of performance, pre-test and post-test. The study was conducted with cycle model through the steps of planning, conducting, observation, and reflection. The results of this study show a significant relationship between students' learning by English movie with delay subtitle related to their listening skills as shown in their improvement of post- test and positive responses of students than  E nglish movie  with not delay. The questionnaire shows that more than 75% students felt easy to understand listening materials from native speakers. Consequently, it was suggested that teaching learning process using English movie with English subtitle is recommended  into  learning  process  to  improve students' listening skills in English language classroom. In conclusion, watching English movie can improve students listening skill.

This study aimed at investigating the challenges and  identifying the way the English teachers solve the challenges toward online teaching during Covid-19 pandemic. This study was qualitative research. Three instruments were used to collect the data, those are: open-ended questionnaire, interview and documentation. As a result, this study showed that there were eight challenges experienced by the English teachers in remote areas toward online teaching during Covid-19 pandemic, those are: (1) inadequate infrastructure; (2) student’s learning attention; (3) financial condition; (4) students readiness; (5) parent’s concern; (6) designing materials; (7) measuring student’s understanding, and (8) the instability of student’s motivation. During teaching-learning process, there were various ways in overcoming the challenges done by the English teachers, those are: (1) create an interactive media; (2) decide the most suitable online learning tool; (3) give additional time for the students; (4) provide adequate facilities for both teacher and student in remote areas. Keywords:  Challenge, Covid-19 Pandemic, English Teaching, Online Learning

Lack of teachers’ understanding in students’ learning styles and their teaching could cause unfacilitated teaching methods for example through the use of traditional lecturing methods. This issue brings the importance of this research objective to investigate teachers’ perceptions about learning style, their teaching, and the applied methods in the classroom. This study uses a quantitative research approach that is the analysis of learning style types for different students at different grade levels. To find out the perceptions of English teachers in this study, information was collected through 20 closed questions with data analysis to find out how the learning style influenced the teaching learning process of 28 English teachers. The findings of this study suggest that teachers’ understand about students’ different learning styles, so they adopt their students’ learning styles to their teaching. The last, teachers agree to use group discussion rather than lecturing methods by integrating ICT. In conclusion, teachers’ perception on students’ learning styles can increase their awareness to design teaching methods that differentiate students’ learning styles. Abstrak Kelangkaan pemahaman guru mengenai gaya belajar siswa dan bagaimana cara mengajarnya yang tepat dapat disebabkan oleh metode mengajar yang tidak bersifat fasilitatif, misalnya masih berupa perkuliahan tradisional. Oleh karena itu, penting untuk meneliti persepsi guru mengenai gaya belajar, cara mengajarnya, dan implementasinya di kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif yang fokus pada beragam gaya belajar siswa pada kelas-kelas yang berbeda. Infomasi diperoleh dengan memberikan 20 pertanyaan tertutup untuk mencari tahu bagaimana gaya belajar memengaruhi proses pembelajaran di kelas Bahasa Inggris (28 guru). Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa guru memahami keragaman gaya belajar siswa, sehingga mereka mengadopsi gaya belajar siswa dalam pengajaran mereka. Guru juga sepakat menggunakan kelompok diskusi ketimbang perkuliahan tradisional dengan mengintegrasikan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa persepsi guru terhadap gaya belajar siswa meningkatkan kepedulian mereka dalam mengembangkan metode mengajar yang beragam sesuai keragaman belajar siswa. This study was aimed to describe the English Teaching Methods in writing descriptive text and the problems faced by the teacher. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this research was an English teacher of SMK NEGERI 1 Pulau Rakyat. The techniques of collecting data were by observing the process of teaching writing comprehension of descriptive text at X Grade students and interviewing the English teacher. The techniques of collecting data were observation and interview. This study found that the teacher at SMK NEGERI 1 Pulau Rakyat used the method in teaching writing descriptive text. The English teacher used the lecture method and discussion method to teach in the descriptive text and the students get difficulties in comprehending the material. The application lecture method and discussion method is not appropriate with scientific approach of 2013 Curriculum. The result and response from the students to the teacher’s method are still not effective. The teacher should not apply the methods in written but also in spoken. And the problems faced by the teacher were the first is about the lack of students’ vocabularies, and the second is about the students’ participations when work in group. This study also found that the teacher’s methods not integrated with the scientific approach of 2013 Curriculum. The implementation of methods in teaching writing  should can make teaching learning process more interesting and help the students’ understanding and skill of writing comprehension better.Key words: Teaching Method, Writing, Descriptive Text.

The lockdown situation has hampered the learning processes to a large extent across the globe. Many educational institutes promptly adapted to the situation and moved towards online learning, and many found constraints in this sudden migration. The purpose of the chapter is to identify the impact of a pandemic on the ongoing educational activities and how these activities were carried out with the help of technology-based solutions. A comparative analysis of the traditional and modern methods of teaching-learning has been carried out to check their suitability during the pandemic time. The significance of this chapter is to describe an integrative approach of continuing online teaching-learning activities throughout the lockdown time by establishing the connection between the online teaching-learning process and the traditional classroom-based methods. The challenges offered by the online environment have been outlined from the perspective of both the educational institutes and the learners.

The research was accomplished to investigate the perceptions of elemantary- school teachers on using Situational Language Teaching method in teaching vocabulary. The aims of this study were to examine the advantages of using situational language teaching method in teaching vocabularies and to investigate English teachers’challenges of using Situational Language Teaching method in teaching vocabulary. This research was completed by using a qualitative approach and the reseachers employed a semi-structured inteview to collect the data. The research participants were five English teachers who teach English subject at elementary schools in Aceh Barat. The results of this research indicate that the advantages of using this method were enhancing students’ motivation ,and creating an effective teaching-learning process. Then, the challenges of using Situational Language Teaching methods in teaching vocabulary were preparing course material and dealing with students’ boredom.

In order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, whether ready or not, education policy makers in Indonesia have established a policy of online learning from home. Some schools use a special Learning Management System (LMS) application, while others simply use existing common communication applications, including WhatsApp Messenger. This study aims to measure its usability in its use as an online learning medium. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach. The data were obtained from an online survey of students and teachers who were determined by convenience sampling technique. Measurements were carried out with ISO for HCI and Usability 2001. The results showed that the Usability of WhatsApp was rated in the sufficient category, close to the good category.

The aim of this study were (a) to identify classroom discourse patternings of EFL classroom interaction based on Sinclair and Coulthard Model, and (b) to describe how EFL classroom interaction affects the students’ learning process based on Sinclair and Coulthard Model. The subject of this study were an English Teacher, and 40 students of XI MIA 1, SMA Swasta Nurul Iman. The instrument for collecting data were observation and recording. The result of this research were the following, (a) it was found that in the classroom discourse, there were seven patterns initiated by the teacher and four patterns initiated by the student as the IRF (Initiation-Response-Feedback) was used more often by the teacher, (b) the interaction affects the teaching learning process in a way how the lesson passed on to the student affects the goal of learning English itself to be able to use English both inside and outside the classroom. It can be concluded that the students were not getting used to interact with English, and the goal of communicative skill in English was not achieved. Thus, the teachers should reorganize the activities which can foster more interaction by using English in the classroom. Keywords: Classroom interaction, classroom discourse, Sinclair and Coulthard, IRF Pattern.
