This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of Teaching Indonesian-English Combined Task to improve students’ skills in writing English sentences. It was undertaken in PDF Ulya As’adiyah Putri Sengkang in Academic Year 2016/2017. It applied pre-experimental method. Writing test was employed as the instrument of the research. The population of this research was 16 students. The technique of data collection involved giving pre-test to know the writing skills gained previously of the students and post-test after giving the treatment to know how the skills of the students in writing English sentences by using Indonesian-English combined task. The result of the calculation of the students’ score indicated that the mean score of the students’ pre-test was (55.25) which was classified as fair classification and the mean score of the students’ post-test was (73,93) as good classification. The value of paired sample test for post-test was greater than the t-table (10,239>2.131). In short, teaching Indonesian-English combined task is effective to improve students’ skills in writing English sentences.

This research aims to see the implementation of WhatsApp media in EFL Classroom. Researcher used qualitative descriptive data collection through observation to see the learning process that took place in WhatsApp group, then interviewed students and teacher, and finally documentation. Data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. From the research results, it can be seen that the learning process is divided into three stages, namely: 1) Planning, 2) Implementation which is divided into three stages, namely: opening, core and closing activities and 3) evaluation. In this case, students can still participate in the learning process using WhatsApp group and easily accessible, save quota and also have various features that teacher can choose to use in the learning process such as WhatsApp groups, chat messages, document files, videos or photos. In addition, there are still obstacles that faced by teacher and students such as teacher cannot observe directly, learning is not optimal, poor internet network, full cellphone memory or lack of understanding of the material.

The aim of this research was to find out the using picture series in teaching writing skill for the fourth semester students of midwifery program in STIKES Bhakti Husada Mulia Madiun. This study was done on May 2020. The subjects were 32 students of the fourth semester students of midwifery program of STIKES Bhakti Husada Mulia Madiun in the academic year 2020/2021. The method used in this research was a qualitative descriptive research design. The techniques for collecting data were observation, interview, and documentation. During the research, the researcher acted as the teacher and observer during the implementation of picture series. The findings of observation show that there is good interaction between lecturer and students. The lecturer gives the task and assignment to make the students understand the material well. The finding of interview shows that by using picture series, the students can have the ideas how to start writing recount text well. They can arrange the picture series to help them in composing the writing. By using picture series the students can improve their writing based on the criteria asked by the lecturers. The criteria of the writing are vocabulary, content, language, mechanic and organization. The finding of documentation shows that the use of picture series in teaching writing recount text make the students interested. Thus, the learning process is supported that the students are better to write from their experiences to compose recount text. Then, the use of picture series is effectively used in helping students improve their performance in writing recount text. The future researcher can conduct the use of picture series in other skill of English such as on speaking skill. It is hoped can be used as the easy media to express the students’ creativity in their speaking. Furthermore, the researcher can do this study by using the other design such as the experimental research design in teaching English writing skill.

The aims from this research are to know how is students’ skill in performing a speech, and to know the students’ deprivation in performing a speech. This research is mix method design to answer the problem of this thesis. The research took place at SMA N 6 Pinrang. The population was the students from eleventh grade, the sample of this research were 34 students who are from class XI MIPA 1 by used purposive sampling technique. The researcher used test and interview as instrument for this research. The speech performance used manuscript speech delivery method. The results of this research find that the students’ skill in performing speech are not fully fill up with the criteria of assessment, where the mean score from the performance is 189.79. Additionally, in analyzing the interview, the researchers conclude that there are some deprivations when the students perform their speech, the factors that been found over the interview were the use of English as a language used it selves in performing a speech. Moreover, the use of vocal variety and physical movement also mentioned with the students as their deprivation in performing a speech.

This study aims to determine the ability to write an English analytical exposition text in class XI Religion 2 MAN 2 Polewali. Therefore, the main problem is how the students' ability to write analytical exposition texts in class XI Agama 2. This research is quantitative and descriptive. The population in this study were students of class XI Religion 2 MAN Polewali. This means that the population is 15 students, and this population is used as a sample of 15 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used a writing test. Students are asked to make an analytical exposition text. Analysis of student score data found that students' ability in writing analytical exposition texts was still lacking in class XI (15 students). In this case, in class XI, Religion 2, there were no students who got "very good" scores. Six students got the same student's work. The results of this study indicate that the ability to write analytical exposition texts is not capable with students' writing results below the average, and the researchers also found that students' writing results are considered impure because of the indications that students take them from the internet. This is indicated by the use of vocabulary used in addition to the results of interviews with the teacher. The researcher found that there was no guidance from the teacher to the students on how to write analytically. The teacher's exposition text only directs students to look for the structure of the analytical exposition text.

The objective of the research is to get information about comparing between total physical response and silent way to develop speaking students’ ability at second grade senior high school 1 liliriaja Kab. Soppeng. This was a quasi-experimental research using two classes on pre-test and post-test design, the population of this research was second grade senior high school 1 liliriaja Kab. Soppeng. The technique to take the sample is cluster random sampling and the data was analyzed into descriptive statistics and T-test. The result of data analyzing shows that the students’ achievement of control class at pre-test 3,5625 and post-test 5,59375, experimental class at pre-test 2,71875 and post-test 4,46875. While the result of t-test score was 35,3 ≥ 2,00 (t test was greater than t table). For the effectiveness of the speaking classroom context, the method tends to provide difficulties in practicing the speaking method. The researcher suggests the future researchers to conduct the relevant research by adding some new aspects into it. The aspects can be expanded in terms of the method used, number of research variables, research participants, etc.

This study was aimed to see the writing ability development at SMA Negeri 11 Sidrap. The objective of this study is to get the empirical data of the differences between students’ score of writing test who were and were not taught by using Video Critics strategy. The population of this research consists of 56 students. The sample of the research were class XI IPS as the experimental group which consists of 17 students and XI MIPA as the control group which consists of 39 students. The research method used in this research was quasi-experimental with nonequivalent control group design. The data was collected through pretest and posttest. It aimed to know whether Video Critics strategy in teaching writing can develop students’ writing ability.

The research aims to examine the correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking performance in  SMAN EX Palopo. The researcher implemented quantitative as the research design because the data in this research was correlation design. The sample of this research consist of students MIA 1, MIA 2, MIA 3. The researcher took five samples from each class. The researcher used the students score from spoken test to categorize as samples of this research. To collect the data, the researcher employed two kinds instrument, such as: Speaking Test and questioners. The result of correlation analysis shows that there is no correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking performance in SMAN EX Palopo. It proofed from p-value (0.088) is higher than α (0.05). Therefore H0 is accepted and H1 is rejected.

The aims of this research were to find the implementation of government policies toward the African-American slaves in America and act of resistance against slavery system as reflected in the novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method by applying sociological approach in analyzing Uncle Tom’s Cabin with reference to Wellek and Warren on the relationship between literary work and social context in which it was written. Data sources are primary and supporting data. The primary data are taken from Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and supporting data are taken from the books, journals, articles, and some sources from internet. In this novel, the researcher found that; 1) Government policies toward the African-American slaves reflected in Uncle Tom’s Cabin are Slave Codes 1705 and Fugitive Slave Act 1850 2) the act of resistence by the slaves against slavery system reflected in this novel is passive resistence. Passive resistences are shown by the characters of the slave such as runnaway, tell a lie, and protesting the authority of their owner.

Online Games are popular for Indonesian teenagers, and one of them is the Clash of Clans (COC). Each online game has specific terms. Those are known as jargon. This study is aimed to find jargons of Clash of Clans used by the teenagers. It is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The result shows that there are seventeen jargons used by three teenagers. They are Archer Troops, Barbarian Troops, Wall Level 3, Wall Level 1, Town Hall 3 Starts, Mortar, Golem, Hogs, Wars, Builder, Hidden Tesla, Clan Castle, Giant, Healer, and Elixir. Those jargons are used in the other contexts, out of that online game. the players use this jargon language by considering the things in the real life with all of the things in Clash of Clans. So the jargon language from the game is accidentally said by teenagers in their real life context.
