During the COVID-19 epidemic, this research aimed to improve students' fundamental Indonesian knowledge using Quizizz as a game-based learning tool. Description qualitative research technique. The study sample consisted of 33 students from the first semester of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program. The research instrument is multiple-choice questions about standard and non-standard words and Indonesian writing, which is included in the quizizz website. The data analysis technique was carried out in four stages; 1) data collection, data reduction; data presentation; and concluding. Based on the analysis results, it was found that the quizizz learning media in learning Indonesian can increase student interest in learning and is very effective in increasing knowledge of writing or spelling Indonesian and standard Indonesian grammar. Quizizz also prepares lecturers and students for global education expectations. Online interactive games can help enhance language education and boost digital literacy among the youth, both of which are essential for the fourth industrial revolution.

Before the arrival of the Covid 19 virus epidemic, the government actually launched the industry 4.0 and 5.0 revolutions, including in the field of education where the use of technology as a medium or instrument in learning can be maximized to use. However, most of teacher and students were not able to conduct yet. When this epidemic comes, it can’t help using technology in the field of education ready or not. The government's policy to execute large-scale social restrictions or PSBB to prevent the transmission of the epidemic has made the implementation of the teaching and learning process online starting from elementary level to university. However, every change certainly causes pros and cons. There are both positive and negative sides to online learning. The positive side can make it easier and more efficient for face-to-face learning to be done from home anytime and anywhere. Meanwhile, the problems that arise include a lack of understanding in the use of technology, inadequate internet network facilities and many more effects as a result of this online learning. Therefore, this article discusses the phenomena that occur around education caused by the impact of the outbreak in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Japanese is an elective course that can be taken by every student in the Nursing Study Program of Stikes Ranah Minang. References regarding the teaching material given to the students must be appropriate so that they can get the benefit from this course. To find out the reference, it is necessary to do a needs analysis so that the students get the material that they really need to support their learning process at present time or in the future. This study was conducted to analyze the needs of Japanese language learners. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach and descriptive method. The research population is the students who are taking the course of Japanese Language II at the Stikes Ranah Minang Nursing Study Program. The research instrument used is a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the descriptive techniques in the form of numbers and percentages.

Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, all teachers in Indonesia are required to teach students remotely using appropriate online teaching platforms. There various teaching platforms to be utilized such as Whatsapp, Edmodo, Google Classroom, Ruang-Guru, Kahoot, Google Meet, Zoom Cloud, etc. These platforms enable the teachers to simply interacting with the students in teaching-learning processes. The objective of this research is to explore the Indonesian English teacher’ perceptions on using online teaching platforms. This research uses a quantitative approach. The subject of this research is 40 English teachers of Senior High Schools in Kampar, Riau. Questionnaires are used as a technique of collecting data. Results prove that most of the English teachers have positive perceptions on the usefulness, ease of use, and accessibility aspects of online teaching platforms.

Pandemic began to enter this country around March 2020. Since then, almost all teachers, students and schools were shocked by the very sudden change. Online learning becomes one of the solution in learning.However, many students could not follow this online learning well. Therefore, the teachers have to be very careful in choosing and planning online learning media for teaching otherwise the result would be dissatisfying. This paper reports a best practice on the use of “wegoquiz”media in improving the students’ English achievement at SMAN 1 Batang Anai. It is a combination of three media in online learning. The three media  are learning website with google site, google meet and quizziz. These media were used to the third year students in the first semester of 2021/2022 academic year. The result shows that by using “wegoquiz”,the students’engagement in learning process is improving a lot. They learned using the website, they attended google meet and they did the quizziz several times. As a result, their English achievement is also improving significantly.

This research is motivated by the difficulties of students in determining the topic of scientific writing, difficulties in conveying ideas and limitations of references. This study aims to develop a learning model for writing scientific papers using the guided inquiry method. This type of research is development research. This study uses a 4-D development research design. The results of this study are as follows: (1) the material for writing scientific papers is difficult because students do not understand the concept of Scientific Writing. (2) in developing scientific work students do not yet know the systematics of scientific writing and students often make ineffective sentences (3) students really need freedom in determining writing topics and ideas (4) most students need the concept of learning to write scientific papers, (5) most students need lecturer guidance in their writing, (6) most students need systematic scientific work concepts, (7) most students need lots of references to write scientific papers. Based on the analysis of student needs, it is necessary to develop a Guided Inquiry-Based Scientific Writing Textbook that provides opportunities for students to find their own concept of learning to write scientific papers. Through Guided Inquiry, students are trained to think critically with teacher guidance.

Fossilization became a hot topic following Selinker's (1984) prediction that 95% of second language students would never gain native-like control of the chosen language. Although the exact causes are unknown, numerous experts have suggested that a lack of drive could be one of them. This study aims to know the role of motivation to overcome fossilization at SMAN 2 Tapung. The researcher believes that motivation has a big role to overcome fossilization in learning English as a foreign language. This study used descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected by using an open-ended questionnaire. Meanwhile, there are two participants in this research. The result showed that, students still have some difficulties in learning English and motivation also has a big role to overcome fossilization.

This correlation study aimed to investigate a correlation between English teacher competency and students’ learning achievement at State Junior High School 1 Tempuling, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau. There was 1 English teacher who has certified as a professional teacher. Seventy-five students taught by the English teacher became the sample through random sampling technique; meanwhile, the English Teacher Performance Assessment documentation and evidence of students’ learning achievement in their report card were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed using serial correlation. The finding shows that the correlation (rxy) score = 0.438 compared to rt. Because rxy was higher at 5% and 1% significance levels, it was possible to conclude a significant correlation between English teacher competency and students’ learning achievement.

The metacognitive listening strategy has an important role in the process of enhancing English listening comprehension. This article reviewed six empirical studies related to the impact of metacognitive listening strategy use while learners tried to improve their listening comprehension in different environments. The findings showed that learners used some metacognitive listening strategies to help them to comprehend the listening text tasks. It also indicated that various factors affect learners’ successful learning on their listening comprehension improvement. It can be concluded that the metacognitive listening strategy has had a positive impact while they are used regularly in the language learning process.

English syllabus design plays as an essential role in the language curriculum. It helps the teachers to make a plan for their teaching performance. The syllabus should describe many skills to be taught. In designing an English syllabus, the teachers not only describe English skills in the syllabus but also other skills. The skills to be accomplished in English teaching and learning nowadays is 4Cs 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. English teachers are suggested to do some innovations in designing the English syllabus based on 4Cs skills in order to prepare the students to face 4.0 society and globalization era. Considering the importance of these skills, the purpose of this article is to describe some innovations of English syllabus design for 4Cs skills. A library research method is used to provide an overview of the integrating of these skills into the syllabus design, including challenges faced by teachers in designing the syllabus based on 4Cs skills as well as a set recommendation for English teachers in designing English syllabus for 21st century of 4Cs. The article concludes with a discussion around the innovation of designing an English syllabus of 4Cs skills.
