The purpose of this research was to develop the problem-solving ability of grade 10th students by using Torrance’s future problem-solving instruction. The researchers used action research in this study. The target group consisted of fifteen 10th-grade students of the second semester in the 2019 academic year. Students who had problem-solving ability scores in low criteria showed lower than 70% of the full score. This study's research instruments were four lesson plans in the topic energy, problem-solving ability tests, observation form of problem-solving ability during lesson plans implementation, and students’ interviewing form in problem-solving ability. Data were collected and analyzed by descriptive statistics. The finding showed that the problem-solving ability score of the target group increased in each action cycle. At the end of the fourth cycle, the problem-solving ability score of all students was above 70%. According to the results, Torrance's future problem-solving instructional model can help students improve their problem-solving ability.

This research aims at analysing how prospective teachers’ levels of metacognitive skills influence their problem solving achievement. The research was conducted with the participation of the 32 prospective teachers attending the Department of Chemistry Education of the Education Faculty of Hacettepe University and enrolled in Inorganic chemistry course in the 2010-2011 academic year. Metacognitive Activities Inventory, MCA-I and Chemical Bonding Achievement Test, CBAT were used as the tools of data collection. Descriptive statistics as well as one-way ANOVA were employed in the analysis of the data collected. Consequently, the prospective teachers were divided into three groups according to their levels of metacognitive skills. Following the one-way ANOVA, it was found that there were no statistically significant differences between the prospective teachers grouped on the basis of differing levels of metacognitive skills in terms of their achievement in problem solving. Key words: achievement, metacognition, problem solving.

Problem solving is the highest level of thinking which students need in learning mathematics. This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem solving abilities in terms of gender’s perspective. The research subjects consisted of four students of Class X at SMAIT Al-Fityan School Gowa in the 2018/2019 academic year, consisting of two male students and two female students. The research phase begins with the selection of research subjects determined based on equivalent problem solving ability tests. After selecting the subject, the next phase is giving assignment problem solving, quadratic equations, and interviews. The validity of the data is done by using triangulation of sources by twice interviews, giving tests to students who are different but have the same ability and the same sex in order to produce consistent data. The results showed that female students had better mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to male students based on Polya Steps: 1) understanding the problem, 2) planning the solution, 3) solving the problem, and 4) looking back at the answers.

Abstract. The purpose of this study to determinan the influence of learning independence and lateral thingking on mathematical problem solving abilities. This study used survey method with double regretion analysis. The total number of samples as many 30 respondents from grade VII majoring in mathematics education on academic year of 2018/2019. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, data analysis, and test hypotheses used with double regretion. With the hipothesis test, which gave the results: 1) the learning independence give positive effect and significance result to mathematical problem solving abilities. 2) the lateral thingking give positive effect and significance result to mathematical problem solving abilities. 3) Then using double regresion analysis, it was gotten conclusion that there are positive effect and significance from both of learning independence and alsolateral thingking on mathematical problem solving abilities.

The purpuse of this research is to determine the application of problem solving methods that can improve the creativity and achievvement studying statistics of science education student of FKIP UST Yogyakarta academic year. The methode of research is classroom action research consisting of four components of action that is planning, action implementation, observation and reflection. Data can be form of observation sheet, questionnaire and interview result and statistical achievement test. Quantitative data analysis technikques are calculated by descriptive statistics. The result shows 1. Student creativity increment 15.41 at cycle I and 15.71 at cycle II. Avarege percentage of pre cycle 52.90 with medium cotegory, in cycle I 68.30 with high category, and in cycle II 84.02 with high category. There was an increase in statistical achievement 25.97 in cycle I and 17.90 in cycle II. The average pre cycle score were 48.53, in cycle I 74.50 and cycle II 92.40.

Teaching materials are developed based on the characteristics of students, so that the specified competencies can be achieved. In general, students' problem solving abilities are still very low, students have not been able to understand the problem, so it is constrained in determining the mathematical problem solving model. This study aims to describe the validity, effectiveness, and response of students to Problem Based Learning-based teaching materials that are problem-solving skills developed. This research is a development research using ADDIE models namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects in this study were 23 students of Meureubo High School 1 in class Mia2 as many as 23 students. The research instruments were validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and tests. From the results of the trials, in the first and second trials obtained teaching materials based on Problem Based Learning that were developed effectively in terms of 70% of students taking the test of problem solving skills obtained a minimum score of 75 and achievement of learning completeness 75% problem solving ability tests and positive responses for Problem Based Learning based teaching materials for problem solving abilities developed.
