The quality of teaching and teacher plays a significant role in enhancing students’ cognitive and motivational development. The purpose of this study was to identify longitudinal trajectories of student perceptions of mathematics teachers’ professional competence, and to examine how these trajectories were related to students’ engagement and achievement in mathematics and their choice of college major. The data used for analysis were obtained from the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study, a study of 2714 secondary students who were followed up for five successive years. Results showed four heterogeneous trajectories of students’ perceptions of teacher competence, and these trajectories were associated with students’ engagement and achievement in mathematics. In addition, those who consistently perceived their mathematics teachers to be highly competent and whose perceptions of their teachers’ competence became more positive over time were more likely than other students to choose math-intensive majors. These findings imply longitudinal links between mathematics teachers’ professional competence as perceived by their students and students’ choice of college major as well as their engagement and achievement in mathematics.

Teacher professionalism has become a distinctive concern in educational discussions. Based on Teacher and Lecturer Act No.14 2005 carried out by Indonesian Government, teacher professionalism, considered as an assessment aspect of teacher quality, could be drawn by four competences, pedagogical competence, personal, competence, social competence, and professional competence. Hargreaves (2000) captured and fragmented the pattern of professionalism development through four phases. This study, a perception study, observed 100 teachers to draw the pattern of teacher professionalism, particularly in Tulungagung and Blitar District, East-Java, Indonesia based on Hargreaves professionalism phases. The results of this study identify that the likelihood phase of teacher professionalism in Indonesia is in collegial phase. Additionally, the criteria of professionalism enhancement reflect the professionalism development based on professionalism ages by Hargreaves (2000). Further, we observe the likelihood of professionalization become an influential factor of professionalism development. The results indicate that every phase captured the right pattern of professionalism development.

This study aims to investigate the similarities and differences between prospective mathematics teachers’ creative thinking skills in paper-pencil test and on a Geogebra-supported environment in terms of problem-posing. This case study used purposive sampling method for determining the participants. Findings revealed that the activities carried out in the GeoGebra-supported environment were insufficient to produce creative problems, and GeoGebra’s main utility to prospective teachers was in identifying their mistakes related to mathematical concepts and discrepancies among numerical values of the problems posed. The reasons for the low achievement in posing problem were discussed: These were; (i) lack of problem-posing experience, (ii) the structure of problem-posing activity, and (iii) prospective teachers’ mathematical content knowledge.

The ability to prove formal mathematics is an important ability that must be mastered by undergraduate prospective mathematics teachers. However, students who are prospective mathematics teachers have difficulty in constructing proof in mathematics courses. Therefore, this study aims to explore the tendency of mathematical proof methods for prospective mathematics teachers in second year lectures. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive research. Participants in this study were 30 prospective mathematics teachers at a tertiary institution in Tuban, East Java. The research instrument is a simple task of compiling mathematical evidence. The results of the study were analyzed using the classification of types of proof by Miyazaki, namely classifying the types of deductive and inductive reasoning. The results showed that prospective mathematics teachers had a greater tendency to use deductive reasoning than using inductive reasoning. Type A proof is the most common type of proof. In addition, around 70% of prospective teachers still experience difficulties in compiling evidentiary tasks.

<p><em>Educators are human resources who contribute in the exploration of students at an educational institution. In general, educators should have four competencies such as professional competence, paedagogik competence, personality competence, and social competence.</em><strong><em></em></strong></p><p><em>As an educator who has the task of developing the potential of learners, it is clear that a teacher should improve his ability with various efforts, including by writing, discussing, following scientific activities, following seminars, and other activities that are able to hone his noble duty as an educator. Because some competencies to be developed are social competence, competence, pedagogy, and professional competence. A good teacher is those who meet the requirements of professional skills either as educators. Herein lies the importance of teachers' professional quality standards to ensure the quality of teaching and learning process</em><em>.</em><em>In addition to being a professional educator, with the certification of teachers is expected to be an economically prosperous educator. In addition to the economic welfare it will obviously increase the motivation of teachers to develop their professional tasks through several activities such as delegation of subject teachers work (MGMP), KKG, seminars, discussion activities and even motivation to continue higher education. Because of the cost of functional allowance to teachers who have passed a certified teacher can really focus on the task of becoming an educator in an effort to educate the nation by no longer thinking about the family economy that has been the burden of teachers in Indonesia. Because we know there are still many teachers who are still far from welfare. Many who have a double profession other than to be a teacher like a buyer of used goods, public transportation drivers, newspaper delivery, fried sellers, and so forth. So ultimately the dignity of a teacher can occupy at the highest social stratification through this certification program</em><em>.</em><strong><em></em></strong></p><p><em>                   Methods of data collection in this study using literature study. In this stage, the researchers try to select the data (books) that have relevance to the professional policy of madrasah teachers through certification program in improving the quality of Islamic education. Then the authors also use the synthesis analysis that is by handling of certain scientific objects by combining the understanding of one with another understanding, which ultimately can be obtained by the new knowledge of professional policy of madrasah teachers through certification program in improving the quality of Islamic education.
