The aims of this study are to determine the improvement of critical thinking skills mathematical and metacognition of students who are taught with problem solving approach and the correlation between mathematical critical thinking and metacognition of students. This research is an experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sample this research is the students of class VIII_2 and VIII_3 in SMP Negeri 1 Banda Aceh. Collecting data technique are test and nontest. Data were analyzed using t-test and correlation test. The result of the research shows 1) the critical thinking ability of the students who get the learning through problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 2) Metacognition of students who get the learning by using problem solving approach is better than the students who get the conventional learning, 3) a positive and significant relationship between students' metacognition and critical thinking skills.

ABSTRACTThis research is aimed to know the differences increase critical thinking skills through learning group and individual problem solving in thermochemical material. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with nonequivalent control group design and study sample consisted of 103 students, divided into the first experimental (group problem solving) (35 students), the two group experimental (individual problem solving) (34 students). The collected through pretest-posttest. The analyzed with the Kruskal Wallis test, the results showed that the learning problem solving as a group or individually can improve students’ critical thinking skills. Statistical test there are significant differences in the students critical thinking skills thermochemical material between students who received group and individual problem solving. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Posing approach and the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach to critical thinking skills. This study is a quasi-experimental study with randomize design pretest-posttest control group design. The population of this study were all class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Sentolo consisting of six classes. From the population, two classes were randomly sampled as the research sample, namely class X MIA 3 and class X MIA 1. In class X MIA 3 students applied learning using the Problem Posing approach and class X MIA 1 students used the CTL approach. The instrument used to collect data is a test of critical thinking skills. To examine the effect of the Problem Posing approach and the CTL approach on critical thinking ability data were analyzed using the t test. The results showed that there were differences in the ability to think critically between classes with learning using the Problem Posing approach and the classroom with learning using the CTL approach, with the average students 'critical thinking skills in the class with the Problem Posing approach higher than the students' critical thinking skills. in the class with the CTL approach.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dan efektivitas pembelajaran IPA berbasis empat pilar pendidikan yaitu learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP kelas VIII pada mata pelajaran Ilmu Pengentahuan Alam tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Desain penelitian quasi-experiment bentuk Nonequivalent control-group design, dengan mengambil pretes sebelum diberi perlakuan kemudian dilakukan postes. Dari hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa nilai signifikansi (p-value) dengan ANCOVA adalah 0,026. Karena nilai signifikansi lebih kecil dari 0,05 maka terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara peserta didik yang menggunakan pembelajaran IPA berbasis empat pilar pendidikan dengan peserta didik yang menggunakan pembelajaran secara konvensional. Data hasil analisis efektivitas didapatkan nilai probabilitas (Sig.) 0,000< 0,05 artinya pembelajaran IPA berbasis empat pilar pendidikan efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. The Effect of Four Pillars Education in Science Learning to the Critical Thinking Ability Abstract  The purpose of the research to determine the effect and effectiveness of the four pillars of education in science learning (learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be) to the critical thinking ability. This research was conducted in the eighth grade junior high school in the subject of Natural Science of the academic year 2017/2018.  By using a quasi-experimental research design in the Nonequivalent control-group design form, by taking pretest before being treated then post tes. Based on the research data the significance value (p-value) with ANCOVA is 0.026. Because the significance value is less than 0.05, there is a significant influence between students who use science learning based on the four pillars of education with students who use conventional learning. The results of the effectiveness data analysis obtained the probability value (Sig.) 0,000 <0,05 which means that science learning based on four pillars of education is effective in improving student’s critical thinking skills.

The purpose of this research is to know the effect size of cooperatif learning model to critical thinking skills students at physics learning Class 8th grade Junior High School 24 Bandar Lampung. The type of this research was a quasi experimental with pretest - posttest control group design. The research involved two groups of students who accounted for 34 students for experiment class and 36 students for control class. The collection of data obtained using a test instrument shaped essay at critical thinking skills level. The results show that cooperative learning model type NHT have effect to critical thinking skills on effect size index 0,7. The effect size index 0,7 show that NHT to outcome critical thinking skills of students i.e 62 % better than control class.  Experiment class is better than control class at random sampling are 0,58 it means each one of 100 random sampling  give effect for 58 sampling to improve critical thinking skills of students at learning physics.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui effect size dari model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe numbered heads together (NHT) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran fisika  kelas VIII SMP Negeri 24 Bandar Lampung. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dengan pretest - posttest control group design. Penelitian ini melibatkan 2 kelompok belajar siswa yang berjumlah 34 siswa untuk kelas Eksperimen dan 36 siswa untuk kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data diperoleh dengan menggunakan instrumen tes berbentuk essay pada level kognitif kemampuan berpikir kritis. Diperoleh hasil penelitian bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe NHT mempunyai pengaruh terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis pada pembelajaran fisika dengan indeks effect size sebesar 0,3. Effect size 0,3 ini menunjukkan bahwa NHT dapat menghasilkan outcome kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa sebesar 58 % lebih baik dari kelas kontrol. Kelebihan kelas eksperimen dari kelas kontrol dalam pengambilan sampel acak sebanyak 0,58 artinya pada setiap 100 sampel acak NHT dapat mempengaruhi 69 sampel untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran fisika.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keefektifan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas V Sekolah Dasar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode eksperimen. Desain eksperimen yang digunakan yaitu desain true-experimental berupa post-test only control group design. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas V-1 SDN Mangkubumen Lor sebanyak 26 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen, sedangkan kelas kontrolnya yaitu kelas VA SDN Cemara Dua sebanyak 26 siswa. Pemilihan sampel sekolah dasar tersebut dilakukan secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa butir soal tes untuk mengetahui kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang disusun berdasarkan integrasi antara indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan domain kemampuan kognitif dalam taksonomi Bloom yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitas butir soal. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual (88,12) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata hasil belajar siswa yang menggunakan buku paket IPA pada umumnya (75,31). Hasil uji independen sample t-test diperoleh signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05 artinya H0 ditolak menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual dengan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan media buku cetak atau paket IPA. Skor nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang menggunakan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual lebih tinggi daripada skor nilai kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang hanya menggunakan media buku paket IPA. Namun dalam penggunaan media sains flipbook berbasis kontekstual ini sangat membutuhkan sarana prasarana atau fasilitas sekolah yang memadai. The Effectiveness of the Use of Flipbook Science Media Based on Contextual to Improve Critical Thinking Ability of StudentsThis study aims at determining the effect of flipbook science media base on contextual to enhance critical thinking skills for students of class V in elementary schools. This research is quantitative research by using the experimental method. The experiment design used is a true-experiment design in the form of a post-test-only control group design. The sample of this study is a V-1 class of Mangkubumen Lor state elementary school with as many as 26 students as the experiment class, while the control class was VA class of the Cemara Dua state elementary school as many as 26 students. The selection of the three elementary school samples was done by purposive sampling. The instrument used is a form of test items at determining students' critical thinking skills compiled based on the integration between indicators of critical thinking skills with the domain of cognitive abilities in Bloom's taxonomy that had been tested for validity and reliability of the items. The results of this study indicate that the average value of students learning outcome using flipbook science media base on contextual (88.12) is higher than the average value of students learning outcome using natural science textbooks (75.31). The results of the independent sample t-test obtained a significance of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that H0 is rejected, indicating that there is a value of students' critical thinking skills in the experimental class using flipbook science media base on contextual with the control class using science textbooks media or science packages. Scores the value of the critical thinking ability of students using flipbook science media base on contextual is higher than the value of the critical thinking ability of students only using the science textbooks media. However, the use of flipbook science media base on contextual really requires adequate school infrastructure or facilities.

The educational challenges of the 21st century require skills especially in Creativity and Innovation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Communication and Collaboration. The purpose of this research is to show the improving of students’ critical thinking ability of class XII High School PGRI on Photosynthetic material by using a model of Guided Inquiry. The type of this research is quasi experiment using two classes. Experiment class used model learning Guided Inquiry model and control class used conventional model. The design of research used pretest-posttest control group design. The techniques of collection the data was by using cognitive ability tests of critical thinking in pretest and posttest. From the 5 aspects on critical thinking skills: (1) elementary clarification has increased with N the gain; 0.49 (category medium), (2) basic support has increased with N gain 0.66 (moderate category ); (3) inferring has increased with N gain 0.58 (moderate category); (4) advanced clarification has N gain 0.39 (moderate category); (5) strategies and tactic are experiencing increased by 0.05 gain N (low category).  Generally, it can be concluded that the skill of students’ critical thinking in SMA PGRI has increased through photosynthesis learning with the Guided Inquiry model.

The aims of this study is to determine the improvement of students' critical thinking skills based on the application of CLIS method (Children Learning In Science) LKS assisted on elasticity and Hooke Law in SMA Negeri 1 Jakenan Pati. This research was conducted at SMA N 1 Jakenan Pati dated October 13 until October 24, 2017. This research used Quasi Experimental design in the form of pretest-posttest control group design. Population in this research is all class XI IPA in SMA Negeri 1 Jakenan Pati, while sample of research used consist of two classes taken by cluster random sampling technique so that obtained class XI IPA 8 which amounted to 40 students as experiment class using  CLIS method (Children Learning In Science) assisted by LKS, and XI IPA 7, amounting to 40 students as control class using Direct Instruction learning model. Based on the result of the research obtained the mean of pretest experimental class is 55,2 and control class 49,45, while value of experimental class postest 79,1 and control class 68,7. The hypothesis testing shows that with t test s2 polled variance magnitude thitung = 19.5 and ttabel = 1.66. This indicates thitung > ttabel, so Ho is rejected which means there is increasing in the effectiveness of CLIS learning method (Children Learning In Science) assisted by LKS on students' critical thinking ability.

Learning strategy is a very decisive factor in student learning outcomes. This study wanted to know the influence of Predict Observe Explain (POE) strategy to the critical thinking ability of grade X students in environmental pollution material at SMA Negeri 3 Bekasi. The study used Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design with a sampling technique of Cluster Random Sampling (N: 90). Research instruments in the form of 10 test descriptions that have been integrated with the ability of critical thinking are used for data collection. The research Data is analyzed using the normality test, homogeneity test, and T test. Our research results show the average value of the experiment class (x = 75.03) greater than the control class (x = 65.57). The hypothesis Test (T-Test) with a signification level of 1% obtained a Thit value of 5.25 & this 2.39. Our research suggests that POE learning strategies can affect students ' critical thinking skills. This POE strategy can be used as a referral for biological teachers to improve the students ' critical thinking skills. Keywords: POE strategy, essential thinking ability, environmental pollution. Abstrak. Strategi pembelajaran merupakan faktor yang sangat menentukan hasil belajar siswa. Studi ini ingin mengetahui pengaruh strategi Predict Observe Explain (POE) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas X pada materi pencemaran lingkungan di SMA Negeri 3 Bekasi. Uji hipotesis (uji t) dengan taraf signifikasi 1 % diperoleh nilai thit sebesar 5,25 & ttabel 2,39. Penelitian kami menunjukkan bahwa strategi pembelajaran POE dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Strategi POE ini dapat dijadikan rujukan guru biologi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritia pada siswa. Kata Kunci : Strategi POE, Pencemaran Lingkungan, Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis.

The learning Algebra courses are often taught using coventional textbooks. However, the reality of the learning outcomes has not been able to absorb the material to the maximum extent possible, and this is because the textbooks is limited in number so that students only record some of what is taught by the Lecturer. At the same time, electronic books are available free of charge in several world libraries. The purpose of this study is to determine the ability to think critically mathematically through the use of Elementary Algebra electronic books. The study of the method are used a Quasi Experiment with a nonrandomized Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design research design. The study population was all students who took Elementary Algebra in the Department of Mathematics Education, Malikussaleh University, in the Even Semester 2018/2019 academic year. Sample for the study was students of class A1 as an Experiment group using E-books for Teaching, and Class A2 as a Control group with lectures using conventional textbooks. The results showed that the mathematical critical thinking ability of students taught using Electronic books was better than the mathematical critical thinking ability of students who were taught using conventional textbooks. Thus the use of elementary algebra electronic books (E-books) can improve students' mathematical critical thinking skills in learning Algebra.

The study aims to determine the influence of the use of POE-based worksheets against the learners ' critical thinking ability on impulse and momentum material. This study was conducted in one of the state high schools in Bandarlampung, in the even semester of the school year, 2019/2020. The Research Population is all students of class X MIA. The design of this research uses the Non-Equivalent Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. This study uses a purposive sampling technique with X-grade samples MIA3 amounted to 36 learners as experimental classes and X-grade MIA4 numbered 36 students as control classes have relatively the same initial skills before the researcher performs the treatment. The results of the Independent sample T-Test show POE-based Worksheets on impulse and momentum material have a significant effect on learners ' critical thinking skills. Classes using the worksheets POE learning model showed higher critical thinking abilities with an average of N-Gain 0.70 versus a control class not exposed to the worksheets model Predict-Observe-Explaindengan N-Gain 0.60. This suggests that the use of POE-based worksheets in this research considerably influences learners ' critical thinking skills.
