The content of the Military Doctrine of the Russian Federation and the Law of the Russian Federation «On Countering Terrorism» is considered, the essential definitions of the main concepts are analyzed, which, according to the author, lead to methodological inaccuracies and misunderstandings of the official state document. The author’s definitions of military dangers and threats to modern Russia, as well as threats to its military security are given.

The paper presents the results of research, whose main goal is to evaluate the aviation and rocket capability of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and Ukraine in terms of a possible launch of regular warfare. The authors primarily focus on changes in the military doctrine of the Russian Federation, which have created legal determinants of the use of armed forces outside the country’s territory in defense of national minorities, illustrated by taking control of Crimea. The authors also stress Russia’s military plans, including the development directions of the potential of armed forces as well as a possible threat to the security of the eastern NATO’s flank in the event of a conflict in Ukraine. In this respect, the capabilities of the air defense of countries on the eastern NATO flank, particularly Poland’s capability, were analyzed.

The article analyzes the strategy and principles of building the national security strat-egy of the Russian Federation, considers the priorities of ensuring national security. Security doc-trines are aimed at security in the military, political, and informational environment. The article highlights the priority tasks in the field of national defense of the Russian Federation. The review analyzes the integrated security strategies of the countries of the Baltic region – Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia; analyzes the effectiveness of the doctrine of “total defense” of Estonia, the procedure and forms of its implementation. It is stated that the Baltic countries are considering various options to improve security, the concept of “total defense”, is based on the protection of the position of neu-trality, the defense policy of the countries is based on cooperation with large European and regional countries (Finland, Sweden, Poland). The article states that the military security of countries is associated with the need to deepen cooperation with NATO. The doctrine of territorial defense of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, directions of defense policy and territorial security is analyzed.

The author of this article examines the issue of the legal status of the Military Doctrine of the Russian Federation; hence the purpose of the study is to clarify its status. The study analyzed the acts of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. In addition, the author turned to a wide range of doctrinal points of view on issues of interest to us. As a result of the study, we came to the conclusion that the President of the Russian Federation, within the limits of his powers, issues decrees and orders that should not contradict the Constitution of the Russian Federation and federal laws. The President in the status of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief adopts the Military Doctrine, which is officially published and has all the features inherent in normative legal acts.

The article is devoted to the analysis of special norms and provisions of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, reflecting the specifics of criminal law impact in relation to military personnel as a special subject. The article analyzes the military criminal legislation as a special criminal legal institution that allows differentiating criminal responsibility and punishment of servicemen, taking into account the specifics of their legal status and the tasks they perform in the conditions of military service. On the basis of the analysis undertaken, conclusions and proposals are formulated for introducing amendments and additions to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in terms of the criminal law protection of military security and criminal law impact on servicemen.
