Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate the shaping advantage of M-wire NiTi ProTaper NEXT (PTN) compared with a conventional NiTi ProTaper Universal (PTU) file in heavy curvature canal. The shaping ability was measured by the amount of canal cutting and transportation between the PTN and conventional PTU. Methods Root canal shaping by the PTN and conventional PTU was classified into two experimental groups according to the final tip size, ISO #25 or ISO #40. Eighty-four J-shaped root canals (10°, 20°, 30° apical curvature) in resin block were used. Results After adjusting for the level and canal wall side, the mean transportation did not significantly decrease between the PTN and PTU with ISO #25. Significantly less deviation occurred with the PTN and PTU between 10° and 30° using ISO #40. Conclusions The M-Wire NiTi PTN improves file flexibility and enables accurate canal shaping for heavy curvature canals.

Summary Introduction Separation of instruments in the root canal is one of the challenges in endodontic treatment. More specifically, nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments usually separate without previous deformation. The aim of this pilot study was to assess the effect of torsional stress on endodontic NiTi rotary instruments separation in simulated clinical conditions. Materials and methods Research was conducted on a sample of 20 human teeth in laboratory conditions. Experimental procedure consisted of determining canal curvatures for each root on digital radiographs and root canal treatment using endodontic NiTi rotary instruments. Out of 20 teeth (60 canals), two groups were formed with similar root canal curvatures (10 pairs of teeth) and instrumented using NiTi rotary instrument with or without torque control. Results Wilcoxon matched pair test showed no statistically significant difference in average number of instruments use with or without torque control (p>0.05). Conclusion Even though there is no statistical significance in instrument separation when instruments were used with or without torque, there is tendency to experience sudden fracture of instruments after work without torsional control even after only few uses in clinical work.

This research is entitled “Using graphic organizer strategy in teaching writing on narrative paragraph (experimental research). Writing is a very important subject that should be learned by English learners. The students should be able to express their ideas and opinion either in the form of a sentence or paragraph. However, the researcher found that many students at the Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Tanah Luas could not express their ideas and develop into the paragraph. Hence, the appropriate strategy of teaching and learning is very important to help students master writing skills. This research aims to know the effect of achievement between the students who are taught writing by using graphic organizers from those taught writing in the narrative by using traditional methods. This research was experimental research and used a quasi-experimental design. The samples chosen in this research were the whole students of class VIII2 and VIII4 of SMPN 1 Tanah Luas. Class VIII2 consisted of 25 students was chosen as experimental group and class VIII4 consisted of 24 students was chosen as control group. This research was conducted in three phrases; there were pre-test, treatments and post-test. The data collection technique used in this research was test. The tests were pre-test and post-test. The researcher gave pre-test before giving treatment and post-test after giving treatment. The treatment was conducted in three meetings. The data was analyzed by using t-test formula. The research result and the hypothesis authentication found by using t-test formula in significant level 5% or α = 0.05 were obtained that ttest > ttable. The ttest found in this research was 3.91. Meanwhile, ttable was gotten from the list of distribution value with degree of freedom = 47, because the data not in the table, the researcher used interpolation approach and obtained = 1.67. So >  = 3.91 > 1.67. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, graphic organizer strategy significantly affects the students’ ability in mastering writing.   Kata Kunci: graphic organizer strategy, teaching and learning, writing narrative paragraph

Abstract Background To investigate the complications associated with the use of nickel titanium rotary instruments (NiTi-RIs) for root canal treatments (RCTs), in Saudi Arabia dental practice, and to explore the influencing factors. Methods After obtaining an ethical approval, two pilot studies were conducted to formulate the final questionnaire. The sample size was measured taking into consideration 60% expected response rates and confidence level of 99.9%. The questionnaire was emailed to 600 general dentists (GDs) randomly selected from the dental register and all of the endodontists (175). The email’s introduction clarified objectives of the study and guaranteed that all of the collected information would remain confidential. A reminder was sent after 10 weeks. The data were collected and analyzed using the chi-squared test at a 0.05 significance level. Results With a 51% overall response rate, 71.9% off the respondents used NiTi-RIs. The majority (83.1%) experienced complications while using NiTi-RIs; with the instruments’ fracture being significantly the most common complication (52.7%) (p < 0.001). The majority (87.7%) experienced NiTi-RIs’ fractureat least once; with more endodontists (94.3%) than GDs (83.3%) (p < 0.001). The greater the number of weekly performed RCTs and participants’ experiences, the more NiTi-RIs fractures and the greater the number of fracture incidents (p < 0.001). While 60% of those who performed 1–3 RCTs per week experienced NiTi-RIs fractures, 100% of those who performed more than 12 RCTs per week did so. The highest percentage of those who experienced more than 10 fractured NiTi-RIs (60%) was within the group who performed more than 12 RCTs per week. Although fracture incidents decreased with a smaller number of reuses, there was no significant correlation between the number of fractured instruments and NiTi-RIs discard strategy (p ≥ 0.05). Conclusion Fracture incidence was the most common complication while using NiTi-RIs, regardless of the clinicians’ experiences and skills. While the single use may reduce NiTi-RIs fractures, to some extent, the greater number of RCTs performed per week was the most influential factor.
