Children's education begins from family (household) where they are influenced by what their parents do by imitating and learning. So, children’s cognitive development is inseparable from the family environment. Children’s development in cognitive theory shows the cognitive skills in the form of perception, learning process, attention, language skill, and emotion. These all are implicated in children’s behavior regarding the cognitive development process in capturing, assessing, comparing, and responding to a stimulus before reacting. An individual receives a stimulus and then performs the cognitive process before reacting to the occurring stimulus. This process includes procedures for obtaining information, presenting, and transforming the information as knowledge. This knowledge reflects an indication of children’s behavior and attitude. Therefore, children’s cognitive development in psychological view is categorized into four: the sensorimotor stage, preoperational stage, concrete operational stage, and formal operational stage.

AbstractThe primary aims of this study were to examine post-injury cognitive development in young children with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to investigate the role of the proximal family environment in predicting cognitive outcomes. Age at injury was 3–6 years, and TBI was classified as severe (n = 23), moderate (n = 21), and complicated mild (n = 43). A comparison group of children who sustained orthopedic injuries (OI, n = 117) was also recruited. Child cognitive assessments were administered at a post-acute baseline evaluation and repeated at 6, 12, and 18 months post-injury. Assessment of the family environment consisted of baseline measures of learning support and stimulation in the home and of parenting characteristics observed during videotaped parent–child interactions. Relative to the OI group, children with severe TBI group had generalized cognitive deficiencies and those with less severe TBI had weaknesses in visual memory and executive function. Although deficits persisted or emerged across follow-up, more optimal family environments were associated with higher scores for all injury groups. The findings confirm other reports of poor recovery of cognitive skills following early childhood TBI and suggest environmental influences on outcomes. (JINS, 2010,16, 157–168.)

Research has clearly shown that poverty has a negative impact on children’s cognitive skills. Much evidence points to the importance of family environment as an important moderator of this gap. One factor within the family environment, however, that has received comparatively little attention within Sociology is breastfeeding, despite the fact that a large body of literature has shown that breastfeeding is positively correlated with child cognitive skills and negatively correlated with poverty. Nonetheless, based on these correlations, many breastfeeding promotional materials and some public health research studies assume and argue that breastfeeding can remedy cognitive skills inequalities; although, these assumptions have never been empirically addressed. Thus, in this paper, I assess whether breastfeeding can address poverty gaps in cognitive skills in Canada using cycles 6 through 8 of the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth.

AbstractThe family as a social system is the set of dynamic interactions that facilitate the development of social cognitive skills in the subsystems of the family group. The family social climate is characterized by the relationships established between family subsystems, involves aspects of social communication, emotional, interaction and personal growth based on common life. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of family climate on violent behavior in 1502 schoolchildren from 8 to 15 years old. 51% were women and 49% men. The Family Environment Scale (FES) of Moos and Moos and the Scale of Violent Behavior in the School of Little et al. were used. The degree of support, social expression and the degree of conflictive interaction were correlated. The results showed a 38% lack of family integration, which influenced 70% violent behavior of school children. It is concluded that violent behaviors depend 70% on the degree of social family integration, characterized by pure manifest violent behavior of 70% and pure relational violent conduct of 69% in the relational dynamics of the school system.

Education through activities outside of school is a learning activity that does not require tiered and continuous activities. The family is the main foundation that can influence the attitudes and behavior of a child. Children's behavior includes attitudes, speech, actions and perceptions of children in the process of development so that they become a character. The character appears through thoughts obtained based on experience and observations from where a person grows and develops, starting from the first meaning that is understood based on a person's words, gestures and behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of the family environment on the formation of children's character. The method used is descriptive quantitative, with a correlational study approach. After testing the hypothesis which reads: 'there is an influence of the family environment on the formation of children's behavior', it was found that the hypothesis is acceptable, meaning that the family environment has an effect of 13.8%. These results indicate that there is an influence of the family environment on the formation and changes in children's behavior, the family is the initial foundation for children to interact with the outside environment, both the living environment and the school environment.

Summary Disease in the family is a literary motif used by many authors. The article contains a description of various ways of representing the disease in contemporary texts for young children. Pedagogical context of reading literary narratives refers to the way the rider repons to the text ( relevance to the age of the reader, therapeutic and educational function). The analyzed texts concern hospitalization, disability of siblings, parent’s cancer. There always relate to the family environment and show the changeability of roles and functions in family.
