<p>Indonesia faces many problems in education. The main problem is raised from the low ability of the headmaster to manage the school. This is related to leadership style. This study aims to explore leadership styles in the field of education and discusses how headmasters should apply leadership styles in schools. Some appropriate leadership styles are applied by the headmaster consisting of (1) managerial leadership, (2) transformational leadership, (3) transactional leadership, (4) instructional leadership and (5) positive leadership. Therefore, the headmaster not only applies a leadership style while managing the school but must be able to combine and contextualize leadership styles based on the need to obtain school goals.</p>

This paper aims to determine the effect of leadership styles on employee job satisfaction. The survey was conducted by administering questionnaires to 400 respondents from different organizations within Pakistan. Transformational leadership style was seen to have a positive effect on various facets of employee job satisfaction. Transactional leadership also turns out to be perceived as having a positive effect on different facets of employee job satisfaction, and so does empowering managerial leadership. It was found that leaders and managers combine the various leadership styles identified in the research paper in proportions that produce a positive result when administering their leadership duties. The proportions at which these leadership styles are combined depend upon the nature of the situation they encounter in the workplace.

AbstractLeadership style used in a higher education institution affects the competence-based performance of the lecturers and the administrative staff. In turn, their performance will affect the institution performance. So, leadership style influences the institution toward strengthening its strategy to sustain. This study examined the transactional and transformational leadership styles toward the lecturers and the administrative staff of STIE Perbanas Surabaya. Transformational leadership was measured using ideal, inspirational, and intellectual stimuli; while transactional leadership was measured using exceptional management and contingency reward. The indicators used to measure the lecturers' performance were on teaching, module, research, civil services, IT, English; while for administrative staff were integrity, service, professionalism, learning, adaptation, documenting, English. The survey involved 32 lecturers and 31 administrative staff. The data was collected using questionnaire and was statistically analyzed using multiple regressions. The result was that transformational leadership significantly influenced both the lecturers and the administrative staff, while transactional leadership did not affect both the lecturers and the administrative staff. The implication was that the top management can set strategies of putting motivation of all organization members in the frame of improving their competence thus this will help the institution grow and sustain.

Purpose: The leadership phenomenon is fundamental in providing employees with direction and emotional indulgence to derive maximum effort out of them. Therefore, it is vital that an organisation places uninhibited emphasis on the appropriate leadership style to enhance employee performance. Premised on the Collaborative Leadership Model, this paper sought to extricate the nexus between leadership style and employee performance at a selected bank in Botswana, focusing on the transactional, transformational, and participative leadership styles. Research methodology: The study adopted a positivist research paradigm coupled with a survey research design, while a quantitative methodology was used to collect data through a self-administered questionnaire. The study population comprised 433 employees from which a sample of 200 was randomly selected. Data was analysed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), culminating in statistical techniques such as factor analysis, regression analysis and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Results: The results of the study revealed that there was a significant utilisation of the participative, transformational, and transactional leadership styles at the selected commercial bank. However, while the use of the participative and transactional leadership styles had a positive and significant influence on employee performance, the transformational leadership style’s effect was insignificant. Limitation: The study only used quantitative data from employees for analysis and did not include bank leaders’ opinions. Contribution: The study contributed to the expansion of the body of knowledge on leadership style and employee performance in the banking sector in Botswana and elsewhere and helped to unmask the shortcomings of some styles while exposing the power of others in reaping positive reinforcements leading to enhancement of employee performance. Research has suggested a relationship between leadership style and job satisfaction. This paper examines this relationship in the context of a developing country, viz., South Africa. The objective of the paper is to assess the relationship between the two variables as well as the influence of biographical variables on leadership style and job satisfaction. The survey was based on the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. The results suggest a significant correlation between the three leadership styles, viz., transformational leadership, transactional leadership and laissez-faire leadership, and job satisfaction. There were no significant differences between the biographical variables and the three leadership styles.

The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of age and experience on the leadership styles of the managers, in the three selected banks of Kashmir division viz J&K Bank, SBI and HDFC. The study focuses on two leadership styles, namely transformational and transactional leadership styles. The study reveals that the transformational leadership style is the dominant leadership style among managers of all age and experience groups. Furthermore, the study reveals that the age and experience have no significant influence on leadership styles, although with the increase in age and experience transformational leadership style is exhibited more by the managers.

This study has investigated the effects of leadership style on organizational performance in small scale enterprises. The major objective was to determine effect of leadership styles on performance in small scale enterprises. Transformational and transactional leadership styles were considered in this study. Transformational leadership behaviours and performance/outcome considered relevant in the study were charisma, inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation/individual consideration; and effectiveness, extra effort and satisfaction, respectively. Transactional leadership bahaviours and performance/outcome variables were constructive/contingent reward and corrective/management by exception; and effort, productivity and loyalty/commitment, respectively. The study followed a survey design, and employed evaluative quantitative analysis method. Analysis was based on primary data generated through a structured Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) administered on respondents. Responses to research statements were scaled and converted to quantitative data via code manual developed for the study to enable segmentation of the data responses into dependent and independent variables based on leadership behaviours and associated performance variables. OLS multiple regression models were specified, estimated and evaluated. The result showed that while transactional leadership style had significant positive effect on performance, transformational leadership style had positive but insignificant effect on performance. The study concluded that transactional leadership style was more appropriate in inducing performance in small scale enterprises than transformational leadership style and, therefore, recommended transactional leadership style for the small enterprises with inbuilt strategies for transition to transformational leadership style as the enterprises developed, grew and matured.

Abstract: The aim of the current study is to examine the impact of leadership styles such as transformational leadership, transactional leadership and participative leadership on the team performance of one of the biggest oil & gas group of companies in UAE. The goal also includes the moderating role of perceived organizational culture on the links of transformational leadership and team performance, transactional leadership team performance, participative leadership, and team performance. The employees who have at least one immediate boss and currently working in one of the biggest oil & gas group of companies are the respondent and data were gathered by using questionnaires and it was analyzed by using Smart-PLS. The results indicated that transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and participate leadership have positive nexus with team performance. The results also indicated that perceived organizational culture has positively moderates among the nexus of transformational leadership and team performance, transactional leadership team performance, participative leadership, and team performance. The regulators of this group of companies will be the foremost users who want to formulate policies regarding the leadership style that improves team performance.

In Switzerland, military service is a civic obligation for all adult male citizens, and thus, leadership style can be particularly challenging. The present study investigated the impact of superiors’ leadership styles on recruits’ achievement motivation, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), and perceived stress during their Basic Military Training (BMT). To this end, a total of 525 male recruits (mean age: 20.3 years) recruits were assessed both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. At the start of BMT (baseline), at week 7, and at week 11, participants completed a series of self-rating questionnaires covering demographic information, achievement motivation, organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), perceived stress, and their superiors’ leadership styles (transformational, transactional und laissez-faire). Longitudinally, scores for achievement motivation and OCB showed no significant difference between baseline and the 11th week. In a group comparison, the group experiencing higher transformational leadership (from week 7 to week 11) had the highest scores for achievement motivation and OCB, and the lowest scores for perceived stress, all at week 11. Exploratively, achievement motivation and OCB at baseline were associated with transformational leadership and transactional leadership at week 7 and week 11. Perceived stress at baseline correlated only with transformational leadership but not with transactional leadership, both at week 7 and week 11. Transformational leadership style fostered achievement motivation and OCB in Swiss military recruits and protected them from stress, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally.

The study investigates the influence of leadership styles, i.e. transactional and transformational on promoting organizational learning in some selected private universities in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The study used a quantitative research design. Data have been collected from three private universities of Chittagong through a survey instrument. The study analyzed in total 147 matched completed questionnaires. The findings of the study revealed that contingent reward of transactional leadership and idealized influence and individualized consideration of transformational leadership played significant and positive influence on enhancing organizational learning. Although, findings of this research did not report any significant impact of management by exception-active and management by exception-passive as constructs of transactional leadership as well as inspirational motivation and intellectual stimulation as dimensions of transformational leadership style on organizational learning. The study extends present literature in the field by relating leadership styles and organizational learning focusing on emerging economies particularly in the context of Bangladesh. Purpose While substantial a number of research studies have examined the effect of leadership styles on work-related behaviour, the interaction effect of transactional-transformational leadership on work-related behaviour has been rarely investigated in a developing context. Thus, this study aims to examine the interaction effect of transactional-transformational leadership on employee commitment in Ghana. Design/methodology/approach The study used descriptive and cross-sectional survey designs. Cross-sectional data was obtained from 360 employees in the aviation industry of Ghana and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation and hierarchical regression techniques. Findings Transactional leadership style has a significant positive effect on employee commitment. However, when transformational leadership was added on transactional leadership base, there was no augmentation effect of transformational leadership style in predicting employee commitment. The results further indicate that there was a negative interaction effect of transactional and transformational leadership styles on employee commitment. Practical implications The findings imply that organizational leaders can improve employee commitment by purely resorting to transactional leadership behaviours. Leaders can also enhance employee commitment by augmenting transactional leadership behaviours on transformational leadership, as the reverse has no augmentation effect. Originality/value This study considerably complements existing leadership literature by establishing how a transformational leadership style can augment and/or interact with transaction leadership style to influence employee commitment in a developing country.
