Knowledge of nurses about transfusion reactions: integrative reviewAbstract: Describe, through an integrative literature review, the knowledge of nurses about transfusion reactions. Due to the sophistication of red cell compatibility testing, the majority of transfusion reactions are non-haemolytic in origin. This paper reviews the clinical presentation of these reactions, emphasising that blood transfusion reaction must always be considered in the differential diagnosis when a patient develops unexpected complications during his hospital stay. Fever, allergic reactions, respiratory distress, hypotension and jaundice may all be manifestations of a transfusion reaction.

Transfusion of blood components is considered safer, but it took years to reach this level. One of the most effective ways to make blood transfusion a safer practice is hemovigilance, which provides important data, including the history of feared transfusion reactions. In recent years in Brazil, there has been an improvement in the reporting of transfusion reactions, however due to the great diversity of hematology services, there are still transfusion reactions. The aims of this study were described the main types of transfusion reactions, as well as to evaluate the underreporting importance of transfusion occurrences of hemotherapy services in Brazil.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to review the scientific literature and present existing instruments and methods for the objective assessment of the listening effort in normal hearing individuals worldwide. Methods: a literature integrative review whose purpose was to gather and summarize the scientific knowledge regarding the objective methods theme for measuring the listening effort, developed through the search of articles in specialized national and international journals, in the English and Portuguese languages, available in the databases: PUBMED, Cochrane Library, LILACS and SCIELO. Results: 18 articles which used physiological methods to measure the listening effort in individuals with normal hearing were reviewed. The main findings described in those articles refer to the author(s) and purpose(s) of the research, country where the research was conducted, casuistry, physiological method used and results. Conclusion: there is no consensus among the researchers about the best physiological method to measure this parameter, that is, this effort in the speech perception tasks, although the level of skin conductance is considered the most accurate measure to date.

ABSTRACT Objective: to develop and validate a nursing care protocol for patients with a ventricular assist device (VAD). Method: descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, for an instrument's methodological validation. Three stages were conducted: development of the instrument; protocol content validation according to the Delphi technique, and agreement among experts and the scientific literature. Results: based on the content validation, a care protocol for patients with a VAD was created and assessed by Spanish experts. Of the 15 items evaluated by means of the content validity index (CVI), 10 presented solid evidence of validation, with Kappa ranging between 0.87 and 1. Conclusion: the method enabled the validation of interventions that will contribute to qualified and standardized care for patients with a VAD.

Introduction. Application of blood and blood components throughout decades is very successful and mostly safe procedure in patients? therapy. However, it may lead to unfavourable effects, such as transfusion reactions. Material and Methods. In the period from 2000 to 2009, 180 transfusion reactions were reported at the Department of Clinical Transfusion of the Service for Blood Transfusion of Vojvodina in Novi Sad. The aetiology of transfusion reactions was determined by examining pretransfusion and post-transfusion sample of patient?s blood and by examining the unit of blood component that induced reaction. Results. Out of 180 reported transfusion reactions, 98 (54.4%) were febrile non-haemolytic transfusion reactions, 69 (38.3%) allergic reactions and 2 (1.11%) haemolytic reactions. Blood components that caused most of transfusion reactions were erythrocytes (62.4%), fresh frozen plasma (11.2%) and platelets (14.4%). All patients underwent multiple transfusions. Discussion. The fact that only 0.13% transfusion reactions were reported, compared with data from literature (2-15%), points to the lack of regular reporting of transfusion reactions, as well as the fact that there is only one report of delayed transfusion reaction. Conclusions. To improve and make blood transfusion safer it is necessary to respect all pre-transfusion procedures, constant follow up of blood transfusion must be done and patients with diagnosed non-haemolytic transfusion reaction should be given leukocyte reduced blood components.
