Abstract Increasing the share of renewable energy sources is one of the core policies of the European Union. This is because of the fact that this energy is essential in reducing the greenhouse gas emissions and securing energy supplies. Currently, the share of wind energy from all renewable energy sources is relatively low. The choice of location for a certain wind farm installation strongly depends on the wind potential. Therefore the accurate assessment of wind potential is extremely important. In the present paper an analysis is made on the impact of significant possible parameters on the determination of wind energy potential for relatively large areas. In the analysis the type of measurements (short- and long-term on-site measurements), the type of instrumentation and the terrain roughness factor are considered. The study on the impact of turbulence on the wind flow distribution over complex terrain is presented, and it is based on the real on-site data collected by the meteorological tall towers installed in the northern part of Bulgaria. By means of CFD based software a wind map is developed for relatively large areas. Different turbulent models in numerical calculations were tested and recommendations for the usage of the specific models in flows modeling over complex terrains are presented. The role of each parameter in wind map development is made. Different approaches for determination of wind energy potential based on the preliminary developed wind map are presented.

In parallel with the rapid increase in energy consumption today, it is known that conventional energy resources will be exhausted in the near future. Renewable energy sources are becoming more important today with decreasing available fossil resources and increasing energy needs. Wind energy is a clean and renewable energy source and has a remarkable importance. Wind energy is one of the most important renewable energy sources, whose technology and use have developed rapidly and their economy has become competitive with fossil energy sources. The systems that convert the energy in the wind into electrical energy are wind turbines. Wind turbines are classified according to their rotational axes, revolutions, powers, number of wings, wind effect, gear characteristics and installation locations. Energy has become one of the most important problems of the world countries today. Energy demand, as in many countries, is increasing with each passing day in Turkey. For this reason, solutions are sought to provide the energy needed in a timely, sufficient and reliable manner. The energy needed in these solution suggestions should be provided from domestic production opportunities and local energy sources as much as possible. In this study, usability of wind energy is tried to be revealed in Osmaniye province and its surroundings. When the wind map studies in Turkey are examined, in Osmaniye Province it has been found that the presence of wind potential, it is necessary to increase the number of WPP to benefit more from the potential of wind energy.

This paper reviews the current state of the renewable energy use in Serbia. Further on, the paper describes energy potential and gives examples of the use of solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, biomass and biogas in Serbia. Extensive body of information is given about support systems and measures of incentives for the investment in the construction and sale of electricity from plants using renewable energy sources. In conclusion, achieved results of the use of renewable energy sources in Serbia and the incentives for their use are presented.

Wind energy is a renewable energy sources which has big potency to develop in Eastern Indonesia especially in East Nusa Tenggara that has low electrification ratio (58.64%) and mostly depend on Diesel Powered Electric Generator as main electric power generation. One effort to meet electricity needs in NTT is through the development of Wind Powered Electric Generator. One of the islands that have the best wind energy potential in NTT is Sumba Island. Based on consideration of the potential of wind energy, location topography, and transportation access, the most appropriate location for the design of Wind Powered Electric Generator in Sumba Island is the Mondu District. Based on the electricity needs in the island of Sumba of 10 MW, the design of the Wind Powered Electric Generator which is carried out with the concept of a wind farm produces its design with 105 wind turbines with three propellers, each with a power of 100 kW. The total electrical power generated by the PLTB which was designed was 10.24 MW after taking the wake effect into consideration due to the laying of the wind turbine.Energi angin merupakan salah satu energi terbarukan yang potensial dikembangkan di Indonesia Timur terutama di provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) yang masih mempunyai rasio elektrifikasi rendah (58,64%) dan masih mengandalkan PLTD sebagai pembangkit listrik utama. Salah satu upaya untuk mencukupi kebutuhan listrik di NTT adalah melalui pengembangan PLTB. Salah satu pulau yang mempunyai potensi energi angin paling baik di NTT adalah Pulau Sumba. Berdasarkan pertimbangan potensi energi angin, topografi lokasi, dan akses transportasi, lokasi yang paling tepat untuk perancangan PLTB di Pulau Sumba adalah di Distrik Mondu. Berdasarkan kebutuhan listrik di Pulau Sumba sebesar 10 MW, maka perancangan PLTB yang dilakukan dengan konsep ladang angin (wind farm) menghasilkan rancangan PLTB dengan 105 buah turbin angin dengan tiga baling-baling yang masing-masing berdaya 100 kW. Total daya listrik yang dihasilkan oleh PLTB yang dirancang adalah 10,24 MW setelah memperhitungkan adanya wake effect akibat peletakan turbin angin.

This article addresses the relationship between sustainable tourism and the use of renewable energy sources. To this end, we evaluate the spatial–temporal tourist flow evolution as well as the wind/solar energy potential in Cocachimba, which is located in the Amazonas region of Peru. This is a place that has seen a considerable increase in tourist activity in the past decade. This is a result of its rich flora and fauna, but especially because of the presence of the Gocta waterfall, considered the third highest in the world. Currently, business initiatives associated with a variety of touristic services have been started. However, there is still a lack of infrastructure, which negatively impacts the tourists’ ability to stay overnight. In order to improve the resident-directed services quality and sustainable tourism, we propose the incorporation of sustainable lodging houses that are based, as previously described, on the usage of clean energy sources, which are harmless to the natural environment. To respond effectively to all this, a methodology based on the use of highly reliable sources and databases, statistical analysis, and highly supported physical calculations was used. The study shows that during the peak season there is insufficient lodging. Furthermore, by incorporating sustainable lodging houses, a reduction in fixed costs for the lodging establishments can be reached. We also found that the solar/wind potential possesses the minimal conditions necessary in order to implement heating systems and sustainable electrification based on conventional systems.

In recent years, decreasing reserves and environmental problems related with fossil fuels have increased the demand for clean and renewable energy sources, as with all over the world and also in Turkey. Wind energy is the one of the most rapidly growing among the renewable energy sources in terms of technological and utilization. Turkey is one of the rich countries in Europe in respect to wind energy potential. Productive and effective use of this potential is very important for Turkey that is depended on foreign countries especially in respect to fossil energy sources. Wind speed values are the most important data in calculation of electrical energy from wind turbines. In this study, latest developments and energy-power equations related to wind turbines are investigated. Using of the data obtained from the wind measurement station installed in Sakarya-Esentepe region, annual electrical energy production of an example wind plant is predicted.

Bosnia & Herzegovina state has good potentials for generation of electric power. It applies, first of all, to its water and coal potentials. In addition to this, Bosnia & Herzegovina has good potentials of certain renewable energy sources, namely: wind, sun, water flows, and biomass. Observation and measurement of wind characteristics in Bosnia & Herzegovina have been performed for over 120 years now. However, the first measurements with adequate equipment and technology aimed at determining of the wind energy potential, started in 2002. Research is still incomplete and limited by complex terrain, the wind type 'Bora', as well as by non-existence of necessary strategic documents and regulations on renewables. Based on this research, several wind farms have been already planned, with an installed power of about 200 MW, and with a high coefficient of energy efficiency. This paper provides a review of localities from the wind characteristics research performed in the area of Bosnia & Herzegovina in the period 2002-2008. Additionally, it gives a brief reference to the complexity of wind potential research under complex conditions of terrain and wind type in Bosnia & Herzegovina, giving in this way a contribution to a more realistic estimate of economically feasible potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will consequently help creation of needed strategic documents.

This article assesses the wind speed data and wind energy potential in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan. In article it is stated a principle construction "hybrid" a source of the electric power consisting from wind power installation with mechanical store of energy, the solar panel with аккумулятор in common working with an electric network. The speed and direction of the wind measured at a height of 10 m were analyzed by the Weibull probability distribution functionTo determine the direction of wind flow (wind rose), a graph in Matlab environment was constructed. The method of an estimation energy of efficiency of the objects eating from several energy sources is offered. It is proved efficiency of application of such source of the electric power low power consumers

In this study we aimed to determine the extent to which changes in the share of renewable energy sources, their structural complex, and the level of energy security in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA) countries in the medium- and long-term are interconnected. The study was performed through modeling and determination of the structural characteristics of energy security in the countries. The methodology of the approach to modeling was based on solving the problem of nonlinear optimization by selecting a certain scenario. For the study, the data of EECCA countries were used. The ability of EECCA countries to benefit from long-term indirect and induced advantages of the transformation period depends on the extent to which their domestic supply chains facilitate the deployment of energy transformation and induced economic activity. This study provides an opportunity to assess the degree of influence of renewable energy sources on the level of energy security of countries in the context of energy resource diversification. The high degree of influence of renewable energy sources on energy security in the EECCA countries has been proven in the implementation of the developed scenarios for its increase. Energy security is growing. At the same time, its level depends not only on an increase in the share of renewable sources but also on the structure of energy resources complex of countries, and the development of various renewable energy sources. Therefore, today the EECCA countries are forced not only to increase the share of renewable energy sources but also to attach strategic importance to the structural content of their energy complex.
