The article aims at providing an adequate linguistic and sociocultural description of rhyming slang based on the use of the names of prominent British government and public figures and politicians, who were widely represented in the British media at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, and are thus included in modern cultural collective memory of the carriers of the English lingual culture. The rhymes contain precedents of onyms − the personal names of well-known, fashionable, popular, or scandalous politicians. The noted tendency of the preferred creation of new rhymes, exploiting the precedent onyms, has become dominant in the development of rhyming slang at the turn of the century. The emergence of rhyming slang units based on the use of the precedent names of politicians and statesmen is a relatively new and insufficiently studied phenomenon while onomastic rhymes that exploit the names of celebrities from the world of cinema, pop music, popular culture and sports are more common and are better studied. The article contains the rhymes that have not yet been recorded in authoritative slang dictionaries. They surely deserve linguistic and sociocultural descriptions.The authors focused on a special and research-promising layer of vocabulary that reflects the sociocultural and historical items in the context of the so-called cultural literacy and is of certain value from the point of view of culture-oriented linguistics, cross-cultural communication and the general study of culture.The results of the research can be useful and interesting for specialists who develop topics of cross-cultural communication, culture-oriented linguistics, linguistic culturology, euphemy, contrastive linguistics of the English and Russian languages.

One of the most important national identification indicators is proper names, first of all, names of people (personal names, surnames) and geographical names (toponyms). Currently, there are new trends and directions in the study of onyms. In the context of cross-cultural communication, in the context of the functioning of different languages on the territory of multilingual Kazakhstan, onyms have undergone a number of semantic and structural changes. This article is devoted to the manifestation of the results of globalization and national identity in the modern architectural phenomenon – residential complexes of the city of Almaty. The article focuses on the onomastic identity realized through the names of modern housing complexes (oikodomonyms), which contain valuable and rich ethnolinguistic and historical information reflected in the language consciousness of the people. For this reason, oikodomonyms are qualified as names that make up one of the zones of active intercultural integration, which, performing the function of onomastic identity, can be conductors of national identity. As a result of the analytical review, the need for special attention to oikodomonyms as nominative units that contribute to the revival and preservation of national identity within the framework of the program "Rukhani zhangyru: preserve and increase" is identified and justified.

Lexical-and-semantic class of personal names is characterized with a number of specific properties and functions. Synchronically, without appealing to etymology, those individual (individualized) names fulfil a secondary nomination function due to their semiotic function, which makes it possible interpret personal names as symbolic cultural codes belonging to national linguistic worldviews. Still, in course of cross-cultural communication, linguistic contacts demand personal names be translated from one language to another one. The aim of the article is to demonstrate the possibility of adaptation of personal names conserving their own semiotic and national identity while being globally transposed both into various languages and linguistic worldviews, including the general global linguistic worldview. As is generally acknowledged, due to the intranslatability of personal names, though languages of the European area reveal some correlations, the principle method to adapt them in literary and mass-media texts as well as in course of colloquial communication is the transformation of their exterior sound-and-letter form, so the foreground is made by the norms and rules of transliteration on the basis of the so-called “ideal” Latin alphabet and “practical” transcription which are closely interconnected and fixed as standard ones in the documents of international associations, e.g., ISO, MFO, etc. However, the alphabets and pronouncing norms of national languages are realized controversially which inevitably leads to developing variations and the necessity to revise the established standards. The implicitly positive result of personal names adaptation is the unification of transliteration, considering that even for languages using the hieroglyphic or letter-syllabic writing systems, special alphabets are developed, e.g., pingyin for Chinese or hangul for Korean, which have to provide the conventional communication in the intersection of languages and culture.

Culture is a multifaceted, complex process which consists of knowledge, art, morals, customs, skills and habits. Based on this point of view of Tylor, we can say that the culture is the human in the society, his learning styles and the technical or artistic products that originate from these learning styles, in other words, the content. In antropology it is argued that when the concept of culture is considered as a component in a social system, the combination of the social and cultural areas form the socio-cultural system. Approaches that handle culture within the socio-cultural system are functionalism (Malinowski), structural-functionalism (Radliffe-Brown), historical-extensionist (Kluckhohn, Krober), environmental adaptive (White), while the approaches that treat culture as a system of thought are cognitive (Goodenough), structural (Levi Strauss) and symbolic (Geertz) approaches. In addition to these approaches that evaluate cultures specific to communities, another definition is made according to the learning time: Margeret Mead, Cofigurative Culture. In order to evaluate today’s societies in terms of culture, we are observing a new culture which has cofigurative features under the influence of convergent technologies (mobile, cloud technology, robots, virtual reality): Digital Culture. This study aims to discuss the characteristics of the digital culture, which is observed after the theoretic approaches that define different cultures in cross-cultural communication (Hofstede’s Cultural Dimension and Cofigurative Culture) and called as network society by Manual Castells and accelerated during the Covid19 pandemic, in other words the common communication culture. Common cultural features will be studied through methods of semiology and text analysis upon digital contents which are starting to take hold of cross-cultural communication, a comparison between cross-cultural communication and communicative ecology will be made, the alteration in the cultural features of the society will be examined via visual and written findings obtained.

Research in the field of cross-cultural communications in the context of modern globalization processes is becoming particularly relevant. Each specific case in cross-cultural interaction has a set of specific features that require detailed study. The article discusses the features of Russian-Chinese cross-cultural communication in the field of fine art, which have been especially pronounced since the second half of the 20th century and until now. The analysis of generally accepted types of communication made it possible to show specific forms of interaction between Russia and China.There is demonstrated that these features are largely related to the fact that the process of cross-cultural interaction occurs not only at the level of communication between representatives of the two peoples, but also in the process of artistic and stylistic exchange at the level of art works perception. Thus, cross-cultural communication refers to the process of information exchange at different levels. Russian-Chinese communication features include the intrapersonal perception of Russian art, style and genre features of the Russian realistic school, that influenced the style of Chinese artists; the interaction between individual artists and students, the unique contacts between a teacher-master and a student studying individually in the art studio. In the period under review, the communications were often unilateral — Chinese students and artists adopting the traditions of the Russian realistic school of painting, both by inviting Russian artists to China and studying in Russia. The specificity is also shown in the interaction between professional creative unions of artists, joint holding of exhibitions, and organization of plein-airs, during which a multi-level exchange of cultures can happen.

The article is aimed at identifying onomastic rhymes as part of rhyming slang and analyzing them from a socio-cultural perspective. They are built on the names of American celebrities from the world of politics and social activities and believed to be fixers of cultural and historical items that are of certain value from the point of view of culture-oriented linguistics, cross-cultural communication and the general study of culture. TThe research methods applied are determined by the purpose and objectives of the research and include a descriptive and a linguistic ones, the latter comprising context and definitional analysis, and also semantic interpretation. The rhymes are based on the names that have been widely represented in the media from the middle of the twentieth century to the present day, thus forming part of the modern cultural collective memory of the carriers of the English-speaking culture. The noted tendency of preferential creation of new rhymes, exploiting precedent onyms, became dominant in the development of rhyming slang at the turn of the century. The authors come to the conclusion that the rhymes illustrating the world of high politics have been added to the well-mastered and familiar onomastic rhymes, built on the names of celebrities from the world of cinema, pop music, popular culture and sports. The article brings to light the rhymes that have not yet been recorded in authoritative slang dictionaries. The research results can be of interest to the specialists working on the topics of intercultural communication, linguistic and cultural studies, cultural linguistics, political linguistics, euphemization, contrastive linguistics of the English and Russian languages.
