Babakan is one of administrative villages in Bogor Regency where Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) is located. IPB has given social and economic impacts in Babakan that many small-scalled business developed and small-scalled restaurant has the most participators. These small-scale restaurants generate waste everyday and the waste is still managed with end of pipe practice where waste was hauled from collection point to disposal site without any intermediate treatment. Community based waste management with 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) approach should be proposed to reduce waste at source. 3R Solid Waste Treatment Facilities (TPS 3R) is a facility that focused on reducing, reusing, and recycling waste at source comunally involved active roles from community and goverment. The objectives of this study are (1) Examining level of participation of small-scale restaurant owners if TPS 3R is built and implemented in Babakan. (2) Estimating Willingness to Pay (WTP) of small-scale restaurans owners to TPS 3R implementation planning. The results showed most of small-scale restaurant owners are willing to participate in both sorting waste at source and paying TPS 3R service if TPS 3R is being implemented in Babakan. Average WTP values for TPS 3R is Rp 32,037.04/month and it’s higher than existing rate of waste collection service, which shows small-scale restaurant owners have preference for TPS 3R. In recent years, the trend of eutrophication appeared in Erhai and the phenomena of small-scale algae outbreak has already happened. Erhai Lake pollution caused by many reasons.As an important factor of Erhai lake eutrophication, superabundant manure stacking at random in rural areas of Erhai Lake Basin and transference of the manure nitrogen and phosphorus into waterbody have attracted much attention of environmental researchers eutrophication of Erhai lake. The nitrogen and phosphorus contentes of livestock manure in the process of naturally composting were mensurated and the transference characteristics of the manure nitrogen and phosphorus were analysed. As a result, the regular pattern and loss type of livestock manure were advanced and advices about developing solid waste treatment facilities were brought forword.

ABSTRAKKegiatan daur ulang sampah di Kota Semarang dapat dilakukan dengan cukup baik berkat campur tangan dari sektor informal. Sayangnya, kegiatan pengelolaan sampah formal tidak mempertimbangkan nilai pemulihan sampah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi aliran sampah plastik di sektor informal di Kota Semarang. Peneliti menggunakan wawancara mendalam untuk mengumpulkan data. Ada 46 agen daur ulang, termasuk lima (5) pemulung, 17 pengepul 20 perusahaan skala kecil, tiga (3) perusahaan skala besar, dan 1 perantara (pabrik penggilingan plastik) yang telah diwawancarai. Data dari Badan Lingkungan Hidup Kota Semarang digunakan sebagai data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah sampah plastik yang dihasilkan oleh masing-masing agen daur ulang diperkirakan 23,98 kg/ hari di tingkat pemulung, 54,74 kg/ hari di tingkat pengepul, 347,48 kg / hari di tingkat perusahaan skala kecil, 1.735,3 kg / hari di tingkat perusahaan skala besar, dan 2.160 kg / hari di tingkat perantara. Produsen bijih plastik daur ulang berlokasi di luar Kota Semarang, sedangkan bank sampah berbasis masyarakat adalah bagian dari pengelolaan sampah berbasis masyarakat yang tidak mencari keuntungan. Oleh karena itu, tidak dibahas secara mendalam di penelitian ini.Kata kunci: sampah plastik, aliran sampah, agen daur ulangABSTRACTWaste recycling activities in Semarang City can be conducted quite well due to the interference of the informal sector. Unfortunately,  the formal waste management activities do not consider the utilization of waste recovery value. This study aims to identify the flow of plastic waste in the informal sector in Semarang City. We used in-depth interviews to collect data. There are 46 recycling agents, including five (5) scavengers, 17 scrap dealers, 20 small scale enterprises, three (3) large scale enterprises, and 1 intermediate (plastic grinding mill) that has been interviewed. Data from The Environment Agency of Semarang City obtained as secondary data. The results showed that the amount of plastic waste generated by each recycling agent was estimated at 23.98 kg/day at the scavenger level, 54.74 kg/day at the scrap dealer level, 347.48 kg/day at the small scale enterprise level, 1,735.3 kg / day days at large scale enterprise level, and 2,160 kg/day at the level of plastic waste intermediates. Recycled plastic ore producers are located outside Semarang City, whereas the community-based waste bank is part of community based solid waste management that is not looking for profit. Bandar Lampung City is part of the major city of Lampung province. The problem that arises in Bandar Lampung City is solid waste management. The amount of solid waste in Bandar Lampung City reaches 1000 tons/day. One of the district  of Bandar Lampung named Kedamaian district still uses the old method (collecting-transport-throw) in solid waste management, which  causes the load of waste to accumulate in the landfill. The constraints encountered  this time are the absence of sorting locations  and limited land. Kedamaian district needs to develop waste  treatment facilities, an approach based on  Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA). The results show  from the analysis that BCR in the scenario A <1 is 0.85 with NPV - Rp. 72.968.828. the  activity in the existing conditions can still be carried out, but the waste reduction has not been maximized to the TPS (Container). Scenario B, NPV is Rp. 95.319.338 and BCR is 1.13, which value of BCR is >1. This indicates that a waste processing facility  in the Kedamaian District is suitable to  operate  with TPS-3R. The results of scenario B are  obtained by increasing the effectiveness of processing facilities to 100% by  2025. In 2025, with the implementation of the TPS-3R obtained, BCR is 1.20 with NPV is Rp. 218.447.621.

Organic waste management is a growing issue due to the unsustainable practices of its disposal. Sewage treatment plants are designed to treat wastewater to produce a safe effluent. However, one of the by-products, the sewage sludge which is disposed off in landfill or used as fertilizer in agricultural operation is high in pathogens. Sustainability can be achieved by Vermicomposting of organic matter which involves accelerated cycling of nutrients though a closed cycle whereby waste products are put to productive end use. Vermicomposting and vermifiltration are natural waste management processes relying on the use of worms to convert organic wastes to stable soil enriching compounds. Domestic wastewater management can be accommodated through these processes in a sustainable manner. A considerable reduction in pathogens has been noticed in the end product to a level that it can be safely applied to land. This paper provides an overview of the system characteristics of management systems utilising vermiculture, to manage wastewater. The process can be used in a small scale for household waste treatment to rural or urban waste management.

Waste management according to Act No. 18 of 2008 on Waste Management is a systematic, comprehensive, and continuous covering waste reduction and handling.  However, currently most of the waste management carried out is still just collecting and transporting waste without any effort to reduce the amount of waste generation. As a result of waste management that there is no effort to reduce, the amount of waste generation will be large and only end up in the final disposal site (TPA), which affects the health of the environment around the landfill site, such as the formation of leachate, methane gas and odors. For this reason, it is necessary to make an effort to reduce the amount of waste generation, one of which can be done is by way of community-based waste management through 3R (Reduse, Reuse and Recycle). Based on these problems, it is necessary to do socialization to the community about how to manage community-based waste through the 3Rs so that people can play an active and sustainable role in waste management.

<p>This study aims to analyze the existing conditions of the solid waste management system in Pasaman Barat Regency and discuss the alternative development of solid waste management systems with a solid waste treatment approach At the regional and municipal scale as a solution to the problem of solid waste management in  Pasaman Barat Regency. From this study it is known that the level of existing solid waste management services was  only 9.13% of total solid waste generated. The problems faced in solid waste management in Pasaman Barat Regency were still high levels of unserved solid waste, inadequate operational facilities and infrastructure for solid waste management, uneven handling of solid waste in service area coverage and the low practice of waste minimization and utilization. The solid waste man-agement system in Pasaman West Regency in the future can apply a combination of solid waste manage-ment approaches at the regional level based on Solid Waste Treatment Station with reduce-reuse-recycle approach (TPS 3R) in domestic areas and treatment at the city level based on Intergrated Solid Waste Treatment Station (TPST) at the landfill site, with the development of the system planned for 15 years, solid waste volume taken into the landfill site can be reduced by 22.40%</p>

Malaysia has seen a high rate of economic growth in past couple of decades hand in hand with an ever increasing size of population. As a consequence, the issue of sustainable waste management has become an important priority for policymakers and other stakeholders of the society. Although there are potentials to recycle up to 80 per cent of the total dry wastes collected, currently most of them are deposited into various landfill sites. Waste treatment facilities are also insufficient in the country. The government has introduced SWM Act 2007 along with other initiatives to improve the waste management scenario, but more needs to be done to be able to recycle and treat a major portion of the wastes. Based on studies on the state of Selangor in Malaysia, this paper this paper attempts to analyse the waste management scenario of Malaysia and the problems and prospects of waste recycling there. The paper will help the policy makers, waste management strategists, local administrators and researchers in the field to formulate sustainable policies and identify further areas of study in the relevant field.
