The quality of road conditions can determine comfort in driving. To find out the condition of a road whether it has good surface quality, it can use an accelerometer sensor contained in an android smartphone. This research uses the International Roughness Index (IRI) method combined with the accelerometer sensor and the Global Positioning System (GPS). Application of the results of this study can be used to facilitate the contractor maker and road repair, so they can find out which points need to be repaired. Testing is done using two different vehicles, car and motorcycle. Smartphones with road quality detection applications are attached to the car and motorcycle vehicles using a phone holder. This is to record vibration that occurs while the vehicle is moving based on road conditions. The vibration recording results are then validated in a visual observation to determine the accuracy of the assessment results. Based on the test results the level of accuracy on the car is 90% and the motorcycle is 30%.

Spoofing can seriously threaten the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in critical applications such as positioning and navigation of autonomous vehicles. Research into spoofing generation will contribute to assessment of the threat of possible spoofing attacks and help in the development of anti-spoofing methods. However, the recent commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) spoofing generators are expensive and the technology implementation is complicated. To address the above problem and promote the GPS safety-critical applications, a spoofing generator using a vector tracking-based software-defined receiver is proposed in this contribution. The spoofing generator aims to modify the raw signals by cancelling the actual signal component and adding the spoofing signal component. The connections between the spreading code and carrier, and the states of the victim receiver are established through vector tracking. The actual signal can be predicted effectively, and the spoofing signal will be generated with the spoofing trajectory at the same time. The experimental test results show that the spoofing attack signal can effectively mislead the victim receiver to the designed trajectory. Neither the tracking channels nor the positioning observations have abnormal changes during this processing period. The recent anti-spoofing methods cannot detect this internal spoofing easily. The proposed spoofing generator can cover all open-sky satellites with a high quality of concealment. With the superiority of programmability and diversity, it is believed that the proposed method based on an open source software-defined receiver has a great value for anti-spoofing research of different GNSS signals.

Abstract The quality of roads is an indicator of urban progress. The development of tourism and economy contributes to the increasing demands for transportation and, thus, aggravated burdens and vulnerability to damage of these roads, and the result is compromised transportation quality and safety. The Road Leveling Project is aimed to road updates and improvement of pavement quality. New Taipei City was selected as the subject for this study. International roughness index (IRI) was selected for field survey and statistical comparison. The outcome indicated that the IRI spread between 3.5 and 6.5 m/km before road leveling with an average of 4.71 m/km; the index fell between 2.5 and 4.5 m/km after road leveling with an average of 3.12m/km, suggesting that the IRI of the tested road sections showed a declining trend. For multi-lane road sections tested, the improvement was greater on the outer lanes than on the inner lanes. This proves that the implementation of the Road Leveling Project has made significant improvement in terms of pavement flatness. Suggestions are proposed in this study for the subsequent management and improvement polices of the Road Leveling Project, hoping that the pavement quality improvement continues to contribute to the extension of road service life and ride comfort.

A mechanical vibration-induced, electric energy harvesting method is discussed with applications to vibration analyses of systems of vehicles, motorboats, trains, machines and bridges, etc.. The research has evolved from the analysis of International Roughness Index (IRI), which studies roughness of road-surface as longitudinal vibrational motions in a vehicle measured with a quarter-car simulation (QCS) or Global Positioning System (GPS) with sensors such as gyro sensor and magnetometer sensor. The electric energy-convertible vibrations with information of roughness of road surface are extracted by way of an mechanoelectric energy conversion, and an energy harvesting technology suitable for the system of vehicles is discussed. The mechanical vibration-induced electric current is also suitable for IRI information measurement as well as a measure for ride quality of vehicles.

Study is aimed to find out what is the representation of IRI (International Roughness Index) from the Roughometer results if it was used as substitute of IRI from the Hawkeye results on the road conditions assessment, which is the hawkeye device is included in the Class I category of roughness measurement devices, while the Roughometer is in the Class III. The Student’s t statistical operation is used to find the representation of IRI from the Roughometer results as substitute of IRI from the Hawkeye results. It is determined by analyzing the comparison of the mean values of both measurement results. The study was conducted on three national road sections in North Sumatra Province, namely: Bts. Kota Binjai – Bts. Kota Medan road with a length of 7,300 meters, Bts. Kota Tebing Tinggi – Bts. Kabupaten Simalungun road with a length of 18,800 meters, and Bts. Kabupaten Simalungun/Bts. Kabupaten Sergai road with a length of 15,000 meters. The IRI values were measured by using Roughometer and Hawkeye devices. The measurements were carried out with the survey team from the Center for Implementation of the National Road II Medan, which was also the facilitators in providing the survey equipment, Roughometer and Hawkeye. The statistical test results that the IRI values from the Roughometer measurement results were significantly different from the IRI values from the Hawkeye measurement results (Ho was rejected) because the Student’s t-test results for the three road sections showed that tcount > tcritical and p-value < 0.05. And the assessment of the road functional conditions using Roughometer showed the same results on one road section but worse results on the other two road sections compared to assessment of the functional conditions with Hawkeye. Based on the analysis results, it can be concluded that the IRI values from Roughometer were more conservative in representing the functional conditions of the road when used as a substitute for the IRI values from Hawkeye.

Pavement smoothness has become a standard measure of pavement quality. Transportation agencies strive to build and maintain smoother pavements. Road users generally perceive the quality of a pavement on the basis of how well it rides, which is severely affected by the presence of defects (bumps or dips) in the pavement profile. Defects are corrected according to the smoothness specifications prescribed by respective agencies. The effectiveness of any method used to identify defect locations depends on the decrease in roughness obtained on correction of the defects. Following this line of thought, this paper presents a method for the detection of defects based on a comparison of the original profile with a target or a desired profile. The proposed methodology is based on the international roughness index (IRI) gain function for the identification of defect locations to improve smoothness in pavements. This method uses the discrete Fourier transform to help identify defect locations on the basis of deviations of the original profile from the target or the smoothened profile. Areas with defects have a higher deviation from the smoothened profile than areas without defects. This method also estimates the contribution of each defect to roughness. Roughness statistics, such as the IRI and the present serviceability index, are used in the proposed approach to determine the severity of each defect. In addition, the use of a quarter-truck transfer function instead of the IRI gain function is demonstrated to illustrate consideration of dynamic load criteria for the detection of defects. The approach is illustrated through the use of profile data collected for in-service pavement sections.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a telecommunications technology that is able to pass the communication service in Internet Protocol networks so as to allow communicating between users in an IP network. However VoIP technology still has weakness in the Quality of Service (QoS). VOPI weaknesses is affected by the selection of the physical servers used. In this research, VoIP is configured on Linux operating system with Asterisk as VoIP application server and integrated on a Raspberry Pi by using wired and wireless network as the transmission medium. Because of depletion of IPv4 capacity that can be used on the network, it needs to be applied to VoIP system using the IPv6 network protocol with supports devices. The test results by using a wired transmission medium that has obtained are the average delay is 117.851 ms, jitter is 5.796 ms, packet loss is 0.38%, throughput is 962.861 kbps, 8.33% of CPU usage and 59.33% of memory usage. The analysis shows that the wired transmission media is better than the wireless transmission media and wireless-wired.
