Tourist Attitudes toward Green Hotel: Do Vietnamese Care about Environmentally Friendly Practices in Hotels?

Green management is an inevitable trend in the hotel industry as response to the needs of sustainable development. However the common question is that whether tourists care about environmental protection measures of hotels. This study sets out to examine the relationship between green activities in hotel room and the tourists’ attitude. The results have confirmed that the attitudes of hotel guests are positively related to green practices. Among all factors, the utilization of new technology appliance has the strongest influence on guests’ attitude. Based on research result, it suggests that the hotelier should be employ new technology appliances as well as launch plenty of environmentally friendly policies in order to obtain positive attitude from their customers.

There has been a growing awareness of the need to implement environmentally friendly operations in the hotel industry, but most studies focus on guest behaviors. Only a few studies investigate employees’ willingness to comply with hotels’ green practices. This study seeks to further the investigation from the human resource perspective. Using alumni from a tourism and hospitality programs, this study collected 233 responses. The study hypothesizes that the employees’ green ability consisting of environmental awareness, environmental knowledge, and environmental skill creates a positive impact on hotels’ green ability. The results indicate that employees contribute approximately a fifth of hotels’ ability to implement greener practices.

Consumer awareness of environmental protection and energy conservation concepts has prompted businesses in the hotel industry to adopt green operations. Most studies of the hotel industry have discussed the behavioral intentions (BIs) of consumers based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), but they have not considered emotional and motivational factors. The present study incorporated two incentive mechanisms and the anticipated positive and negative emotions of consumers into the TPB to explore the relationship between BIs and green hotel development. Structural equation modeling was applied to test the research hypotheses. The results indicate that (1) a positive correlation exists between environmental attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control (PBC), positive anticipated emotion, and desire intention (DI), and a negative correlation exists between negative anticipated emotions and DI; (2) a positive correlation exists between PBC, DI, and BI; and (3) an incentive mechanism has a moderating effect on the relationship between DI and BI.

Green hotel has become a branding and strategy in winning business competition, if using environmentally friendly energy. This study aims to explain the relationship green image with green trust, green image with green satisfaction, green trust with green loyalty, green satisfaction with green loyalty, green image with green loyalty, and to explain the role of green trust and green satisfaction in mediating green image relationship with green loyalty. The population in this study are the guests who have been staying at Hotel Bali Tropic Resort & Spa (minimum 2 times stay in the period of 2013-2017) with sample size of 100 respondents. This research uses analysis technique PLS (Partial Least Square). This study found that green image has a positive relationship with green trust, green satisfaction, and green loyalty. Green trust and green satisfaction have a positive relationship with green loyalty. Green trust and green satisfaction are able to mediate partially and have a positive relationship with green loyalty.

The continual development of the hospitality industry has led to negative impacts on the environment. However, the development of green hotels could be a solution to this problem. As more tourists are becoming gradually concerned about environmentally friendly products and services, it is crucial for the hotel industry to take an interest and participate in the green initiative. A questionnaire method was used to collect data from 209 participants using the intercept approach in several main tourist sites in Bangalore, India. The analysis showed that tourists staying in hotels in Bangalore give substantial influence on their intention to choose green hotels and thus environmentally friendly services and products. Therefore, it is of primary importance for green hotel operators/managers to continuously educate their guests about the importance of being environmentally friendly and the environmental impacts of their behaviors.


Green programs become more effective and efficient by acquiring the in depth knowledge of customers’ desire for participation in green activities. This paper provides the assessment of guests’ that are staying in hotel with their environmentally friendly approaches that influenced the intentions. Second, this research estimates the customer barriers for participation such as reduced luxury, cost cutting perceptions and inconvenience. Such parameters are significantly influence the intention of consumers’ and make the decision on whether to stay at a green hotel or spend additional cost for a room in such a hotel. Third, the work depicts that customers never consider the importance of green practices connected with staying in a hotel whether they believe the requirements. Fourth, the survey report shows that customers take the responsibility of environment much enthusiastically for home rather than a hotel. These findings are important for providing the relevance of actions and communication of hotel managers’ to guests’ concerning by cost cutting perceptions reduction, increasing participation accessibility in green programs, and educating customers about green practices.

Schizophonic soundscapes in Murray Schafer's critical acoustic ecology mean a split between listening and seeing, between space and place, between audience and communicator. His idea of a gap between senses is based on electronic media like radio and telephone, but it gains new actuality in modern (multimedia) times. The new technology and its users have too experimented with the creative inversion of schizophony in sound and vision. Film sound design and film music combine sound in and out of context, composition works with contrapunctual audiovisions; video art and sound art, as in the work of Robert Cahen, combine and mix genres of all kinds and senses. MetaSon #5 Skruv Stockholm is an audiovisual soundwalk, based on soundscape recordings in Sweden in the 1970s and 1990s, combined with associative pictures and designs, each in its own rhythms and times. It consists less of the common meaning both share, being more dependent on the fluidity and dynamic of the relationship between the elements. Sound and image create an intermedium, intermodal space neither of which could project alone. From moment to moment, schizophonic montage and idea invert into a fresh, maybe evocative look at the way we perceive, where the audio flow transforms stable pictures into liquid forms, where image follows sound and is treated like sound.

Tourism still generates negative effects on the environment that consequently objected the green practices in hotels; therefore, this study comes to measure the perception of international guests towards green practices in the Jordanian hotels. This study considers the first attempt that linked the tourists' perceptions toward green practices in hotels and their willingness to stay in eco-label hotels in Jordan. The study relied on the quantitative approach to measure the level of those practices as 270 questionnaires were collected during the period from March to September 2019. The questionnaire included questions on 7 eco-label criteria (Green hotel certification, Energy, Water, Waste and Purchasing Management, Community support and Customer education) comprising all areas of hotel operations, and 3 statements to measure hotel guests’ guests’ willingness to stay in eco-label hotel. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS program version 21. The study found a positive but moderate correlation between tourists' perceptions towards environmental practices and their stay in eco-hotels. In addition, the various dimensions of environmental practices were positively related to tourists staying in an environmentally friendly hotel. This is one of the first studies that linked tourists' perceptions towards green practices in the hotels and their willingness to stay in eco-label hotel.

The major purpose ofthis study was to examine the relationship of strategy and structure. Porter s(/980) strategic typology was utilized to classify hotel firms by strategic orientation; and, an analysis of variance was performed to determine the differences in their performance. Structural Equation Modeling was used to confirm the factors underlying the strategy and structure constructs.
