Parliament in the course of a century after 1547 became almost certainly the best-recorded institution in Britain. This essay considers the nature of institutional memory in the late sixteenth-and early seventeenth-century House of Commons. It concerns firstly the nature and quality of institutional memory, and how, while it relied considerably on non-inscribed memory, it changed with the growth of the written record. It discusses the importance of precedent to parliamentarians, and how precedents were identified and selectively used. But more broadly it considers how written records, both of a formal and official nature and a private and unofficial kind, were developed over the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in order to generate a narrative about parliament that helps to consolidate its landmark status. As a result, parliament came to be recognised and revered as the key institution in the relationship between the state and the individual.

The relationship between certain dimensions of career anchors, job perceptions and quality of work life. The career anchors and job perceptions of a sample of 258 employees in various types of organizations (private, semistate and state) were examined. A significant link was found between the respondents' career anchors and corresponding job perception; after which a test for differences in quality of working life between the fit and non-fit group was carried out. It was only for those respondents whose dominant career anchor was job security that significant differences (p < 0,5) were found and the fit group had a significantly higher score. The implications of these findings on career planning for the individual and the firm are examined.

Previous research has mainly dealt with the physiological and psychological restorative effects of the forest environment. However, comparatively few studies have focused on how the traits and attributes of individuals (individual traits) affect the restorative effects of the forest environment. In this study, we examined the relationships between the psychological restorative effects offered by perceived restorativeness of outdoor settings and the individual traits. Then, we investigated the relationships between the restorative indicators that are useful in examining the restorative properties (i.e., the Perceived Restorativeness Scale (PRS); seven indicators in total), the psychological restorative effect (Profile of Mood States (POMS), Restorative Outcome Scale (ROS), positive and negative affect schedule (PANAS), and Subjective Vitality Scale (SVS); 10 indicators in total), and the individual trait indicators that could be used to investigate individual traits (Development of Health and Life Habit Inventory for lifestyle, Lazarus-type Stress Coping Inventory for stress coping, World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment 26 for quality of life (QOL), and Sukemune-Hiew Resilience test for resilience; 28 indicators in total) in forest and urban settings. Respondents consisted of 46 male students in their twenties. A short-term experiment was conducted using the same method in both environmental settings. We then analyzed the intrinsic restorative properties and the restorative effects of the settings and referred to prior research to determine the restorative effects. Furthermore, we analyzed the relationship between the restorative indicators and the individual trait indicators by correlation analysis and multiple regression (step-wise) analysis. These new findings were obtained: (1) the forest setting was a restorative environment with a higher restorative effect than the urban setting; (2) although the forest setting had a higher restorative effect than the urban setting, and the influence of individual traits was small; (3) in the forest setting, the relationship between the restorative indicators and individual traits indicators were arranged; (4) distancing (Stress coping), psychological health (QOL), and satisfaction with living environment (QOL) were likely important indicators that are related to the restorative effects in the forest setting.

Through academia, professional disciplines seek – whenever possible – to base their actions on theory rather than fact and historical practices. This serves to improve certainty and place curricula, research, and practice on the best footing in terms of knowledge and quality. This emphasis extends to the workplaces in which professionalised disciplines are learned and practised. In healthcare, great importance is placed upon evidence-based findings to support clinical practice. Although subject to ongoing debate, the quality of research is assessed against a yardstick that culminates in a ‘gold-standard’ of clinical trials and systematic reviews. What healthcare professionals do, should, whenever possible, be based upon evidence, not ritualised practices and missives, such as “I was trained this way” and “This is how we do things here”.How to cite this article: Jones P. Quality of life has to do with the extent to which a person sees himself or herself as being healthy, comfortable and has the ability to enjoy or take part in life events. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks immune cells called CD4 cells. When HIV targets and infiltrates these cells, it reduces the body’s ability to combat other diseases. As HIV disease progresses the quality of life of the individual worsens. This study looked at the relationship between age, sex, marital status and Quality of life among 480 HIV/AIDS clinic attendees in a Nigerian tertiary health institution using the WHO-QOL BREF. 31.9%; 34.8% and 33.3% respectively had high, moderate and low quality of life respectively. The relationship between quality of life and gender was significant. Discussion of the result was based on literature reviewed and recommendations to guide policy formulation were proffered.

Professions aimed at helping and supporting a person in a difficult situation, with their traditions and principles of assisting activities, have existed since ancient times. The main purpose of the helping professions is to improve the quality of life of the person who sought help and to activate his inner potential. The importance of existential problems and their solution in the way of the professions plays a special role, since only a harmonious person who has reached agreement with himself and the outside world can fully open up in the profession. Despite the individual specifics of each profession; regardless of the direction of his work, the helper must have not only a certain set of personal qualities and a proper level of professional knowledge, but also an understanding, awareness and acceptance of the level of responsibility that he bears for what is happening in the work process. The study describes the relationship of future aid specialists to existential problems, professional responsibility and future profession.

Abstract: Protective and risk factors for conduct disorder and attention deficit–hyperactivity disorder. A systematic review. Conduct disorder (CD) and attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are the most frequent clinical disorders in children and adolescents. The aim of the review was to identify the protective and risk factors of CD and ADHD to guide the design of intervention programs that allow to modify the risks and strengthen the characteristics that prevent manifestation of the symptomatology. The existing literature was analyzed from January 2012 to June 2017 through a search conducted in Scopus, Pubmed, Sciencedirect and PsycINFO. In conclusion, individual and family factors are predominant in both types of disorder, where variables of both protection and risk were found, with the emotional and cognitive variables being the most studied in the individual factors and in family factors the quality of the relationship between parents and son.

This article reviews and summarizes two decades of empirical literature concerned with both direct and moderating variable-based analyses of the relationship of organizational stress with job satisfaction and job performance. Moderating influences of various constructs operationalized at the individual, group and organizational level of analysis are classified and then reviewed systematically. An evaluative summary of this research suggests that although there have been significant improvements in the analytical methods employed to investigate such phenomena, much of this research still does not consider the role of reciprocal relationships that evolve over time. We provide four guidelines for improving the quality of both theoretical rigor and methodological robustness in this important area of organizational inquiry.
