A microfinance institute (LKM/ Lembaga Keuangan Mikro) is a company that focuses in providing funds to small, early-stage, and emerging firms or small medium enterprises. A company that is engaged in financial sector and works under the surveillance of OJK/ FSA (Financial Service Authority) always has some questions whether this company really needs to implement IT Governance best practices or to what extent it does. The research in PT Sarana Jabar Ventura as one of the microfinance institutes using COBIT 5 framework for the domain of EDM (Evaluate-Direct-Monitor) & APO (Align-Plan-Organize) has shown that the existing practice is not adequate enough to align the business to IT and to manage its risk optimally so the IT solution will be beneficial for the business. Therefore, it is necessary to design the IT governance practice here, based on the seven enablers of COBIT 5 which are categorized into 3 aspects: process, people, and technology. The results of this research are design recommendations as follows: IT policy, procedures, organization structure, job description and the supporting tools and technology. It is expected that the company will implement the results in the near future. Keywords—COBIT 5, IT governance, microfinance institution

Malaysian Private Entity Reporting Standard (MPERS) serves as new reporting framework to private entities and significant milestone to the capital market. The qualification for first-time MPERS adoption is incremental and it is important to prepare in advance for private entities if they intend to move to the MPERS or MFRS framework in the near future. A common question that private entities may ask is how far-reaching or how reliable the current Private Entity Reporting Standards (PERS) Framework is comparable to the new MPERS or MFRS framework. The adoption of MPERS is retrospective. The purpose of the analysis is to analyze the implementation of MPERS on small medium enterprises (SMEs) and how they perceive the implementation. The study covers all sectors of the SME sector, namely services, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, mining and quarrying, and is subdivided into Micro, small and medium and in three categories. These sectors were selected based on the SMEs landscape of Malaysia following the issuance of MPERS on February 14, 2014. There were 55 of SMEs participated in this research by answering the questionnaire. The study evaluated using linear regression and the measures of research are based on the factors described in the literature review, influence the variables. Hence, the SMEs experiences have the potential to make respondent’s perception of MPERS also agreeable. The implications of the research highlighted that the implementation of the MPERS still at the infancy level as there are few challenges faced by the SMEs regards to the implementation. Therefore, the regulators and standard setter can identify the challenges and provide appropriate assistance to ensure the financial reports are fairly presented.

We investigate the case of Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Italy trying to understand if key performance indicators obtained from the financial statement are able to predict possible distress in a company with enough time to take some corrective actions. In order to test the hypotheses, a nonparametric supervised classification algorithm has been applied to a random sample of 100 non-listed SMEs, considering 50 companies that filed for bankruptcy during the period 2000-2011 and 50 companies still active on the market at the end of 2011. Results describe the Italian picture for SMEs during an economic crisis period. They show that, for the Italian case, it is possible to predict with enough time (4-5 years prior to failure) a distress situation in a firm through classification methods. Anyway, these methods are not predicting the health of a company but the possibility of the firm to access the credit system. The results are limited to the Italian SMEs context which is quite particular if compared with other countries in Europe. The dataset is limited in size but has been chosen to be representative of non-listed Italian companies.
