Parry Romberg syndrome (PRS) is a rare disorder, characterized by unilateral facial atrophy of the skin, subcutaneous fat, muscles, cartilages, and even bone. Various systemic manifestations re­ported with this syndrome are neurologic, maxillofacial, and ophthalmologic. The etiology is still unknown. Herein we present a case report of 23 years young engineering student who had PRS and got a fracture of the right angle of his mandible after a road traffic accident. The treatment was challenging as he had nonunion at the fracture site.

Ocular trauma is very common, but globe avulsion along with optic nerve avulsion is a rare clinical event. Blunt trauma during a road traffic accident can cause rupture or avulsion of the globe and the outcome can range from complete recovery on repositioning to visual loss because of globe perforation or optic nerve injury. Here, authors report a case of a 20-year-old male who presented with history of a road traffic accident causing severe facial injuries. The physical examination revealed oedema and ecchymoses over the right side of the face with avulsion of the right eyeball anteriorly outside the orbit along with avulsion of the optic nerve. The visual acuity in the injured eye was no perception of light and the direct pupillary response was absent. Computed tomography revealed fracture of the roof and lateral wall of the right orbit. As the eye was not salvageable, enucleation surgery was done. Insertion of an ocular prosthesis for rehabilitation was planned. The presentation, investigations, surgery and follow-ups are described.

Abstract A forty-two years old housewife came to the outpatient department. She met with a very bad road traffic accident in childhood resulting in a crush injury of left lower limb and a degloving injury on the right lower limb. She had undergone transtibial amputation on the left and skin grafting on the right lower limbs. The scar has been transformed into a large keloid. Now she is ambulant with patellar tendon bearing prosthesis on the left side and a rocky hard, heavy, insensate right lower limb with a grotesque appearance. She requests amputation and prosthetic fitting on the right side.

A road traffic accident is a life-threatening traumatic condition affecting man and animals. A 7- Year-old local bitch weighing 25 kg was presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto with the chief complaint of trauma following an automobile accident. At presentation, vital parameters were within normal range but the dog was on sternal recumbency. During clinical examination, there was an audible crepitating sound on rectal palpation. The mammary glands were engorged and ultrasonography revealed pregnancy with presence of viable foetuses. Dorsoventral radiography of the pelvic region revealed fracture of the pelvis and right coxo-femoral luxation. However, the bitch died over-night and was sent for post mortem, which revealed fracture of the right ilium and pubis with severe intra-muscular haemorrhages of the gluteus and quadriceps muscles. There was diaphragmatic hernia along with congested lungs and blood-tinged fluid in the thorax. There was also severe hydroperitoneum, rupture of the left uterine horn and six dead foetuses in-utero. The dog may have died of hypovolemic shock due to the traumatic injury.

ABSTRACTA case of fracture of the right tibia proximal 1/3rd extending up to diaphysis after a road traffic accident along with a dropped hallux is being reported. The extensor digitorum longus (EDL) was intact. Patient was taken up for surgery for the fracture tibia with conservative management for his dropped hallux for initial six weeks. After six weeks when no improvement was seen surgical intervention was planned for the dropped hallux. The subsequent management of this patient is being described.

<p><span lang="EN-IN">This case report presents a 32 year old male patient with h/o road traffic accident resulting in compound fracture of the right tibia and fibula with extensive soft tissue injury and exposed tibia of 12×5 cm. The fractures were stabilized with ext. fixator and exposed tibia was covered by a medially based standard Cross Leg flap of dimensions 16×12 cm, though the largest dimensions described for standard cross leg is 22×10 cm.</span></p>

Background: Chest trauma is responsible for 50% of deaths due to trauma. This kind of death usually occurs immediately after the trauma has occurred. Various therapeutic options have been reported for management of chest injuries like clinical observation, thoracocentesis, tube thoracostomy and open thoracotomy. Objective: To observe the pattern and outcome of management in chest trauma Methods: This is an observational study carried out in Casualty department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Chittagong, between April 2015 to March 2016. Our study was included all patients, both sexes, following chest injury at Casualty units of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. All the data were recorded through the preformed data collection sheet and analyzed. Result: The mean age was found 37.7±18.1 years with range from 12 to 80 years. Male female ratio was 11.8:1. The mean time elapsed after trauma was found 6.1±3.1 hours with range from 1 to 72 hours. Almost one third (35.7%) patients was affecting road traffic accident followed by 42(27.3%) assault, 35(22.7%) stab injury, 15(9.7%) fall and 7(4.5%) gun shot . More than three fourth (80.5%) patients were managed by tube thoracostomy followed by 28(18.2%) observation and 2(1.3%) ventilatory support. No thoracotomy was done in emergency department. 42(27.2%) patients was found open pneumothorax followed by 41(26.6%) rib fracture, 31(20.1%) haemopneumothorax, 14(9%) simple pneumothorax, 12(7.8%) haemothorax, 6(3.9%) chest wall injury, 5(3.2%) tension pneumothorax, and 3(1.9%) flail chest. About the side of tube 60(39.0%) patients were given tube on left side followed by 57(37.0%) patients on right side, 9(5.8%) patients on both (left & right) side and 28(18.2%) patients needed no tube. Regarding the complications, 13(30%) patients had persistent haemothorax followed by 12(29%)tubes were placed outside triangle of safety, 6(13.9%) tubes were kinked, 6(13.9%) patients developed port side infection, 2(4.5%)tube was placed too shallow, 2(4.5%) patients developed empyema thoracis and 2(4.5%) patients developed bronchopleural fistula. The mean ICT removal information was found 8.8±3.6 days with range from 4 to 18 days. Reinsertion of ICT was done in 6(4.7%) patients. More than two third (68.2%) patients were recovered well, 43(27.9%) patients developed complication and 6(3.9%)patients died. More than two third (66.9%) patients had length of hospital stay 11-20 days. Conclusion: Most of the patients were in 3rd decade and male predominant. Road traffic accident and tube thoracostomy were more common. Open pneumothorax, rib fracture and haemopneumothorax were commonest injuries. Nearly one third of the patients had developed complications. Re-insertion of ICT needed almost five percent and death almost four percent. Journal of Surgical Sciences (2018) Vol. 22 (2) : 110-117

Background: In Bangladesh fatality rate due to road traffic accidents is rising sharply day by day. At least 2297 people were killed and 5480 were injured in road traffic accidents within 1st six months of 2017.Whereas in the previous year at 2016 at least 1941 people were killed and 4794 were injured within the 1st six months. No survey has been reported in Bangladesh yet correlating ADHD as a reason of impulsive driving which ends up in a road crash.
