Based on the extensive literature review and original observations, a detailed analysis of the modern geographical distribution of pasture forage associations of the European white stork Ciconia ciconia ciconia with large herbivorous mammals and agricultural machinery is presented. Associations of the white stork with land and harvesting agricultural machinery are evaluated as anthropogenic modifications of forage behavior. The historical and geographical aspect of the origin of feedingr associations of the white stork with wild herbivorous mammals and livestock is considered. The hypothesis of independent African, Middle Eastern and European origin of pasture forage associations of the white stork is proposed.

To clarify the multiracial occurrence of Waardenburg syndrome, we present a case series and literature review. A computerized review of the English-language literature was conducted to assess the distribution of reported occurrences of Waardenburg syndrome in populations around the world. We detail the clinical features of 2 family cohorts: one of Western European origin and the other from South Asia. A computerized literature review found sporadic cases of the syndrome in many ethnic groups, including Japanese, Taiwanese, and Middle Eastern families. The highest reported incidence is among Kenyan Africans. Waardenburg syndrome accounts for between 2% and 5% of cases of congenital deafness. It was first described in Northern European cohorts and is widely identified in fair-skinned populations. We hope to raise awareness of the worldwide distribution of this important cause of hearing loss.

Abstract Forty-three patients with chronic pain disorders of different causes were selected for spinal cord stimulation. All underwent implantation of a ribbon electrode through a small laminotomy, under general anesthesia. Thirteen patients (30%) failed to obtain significant pain relief during a period of trial stimulation, and their electrodes were removed. The remainder underwent a definitive implant and were followed for a mean of 13 months (range, 3-33 months). Nineteen of them (63%) continued to experience pain relief. A detailed analysis of this series, as well as a literature review, is presented.

Customer cognitive legitimacy is an important factor in a new business venture’s survival. Based on an extensive literature review of customer cognitive legitimacy, this book examines the consistent conceptualisation of the concept and its dimensional structure. This consistent conceptualisation facilitates the development of the reliable and valid three-dimensional customer cognitive legitimacy scale in 10 studies. The scale is based on potential customers’ interest in acquiring knowledge about a product and the company responsible for it, their perception of the company’s and the product’s future, and their perception of how competent the company’s managers are.
