The intention of his complaint regarding Novel Baswedan’s acid attack case was expressed implicitly so that the audiences cannot predict his intention if they only look at it from his caption. In the level of discourse practice, he successfully represented most of the citizens’ criticism against the case. Furthermore, he took his right to freedom of speech to deliver his thought in a humorous style.

This article aims to describe the Arab Spring phenomenon through critical discourse analysis of the Qatar Debate. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with the note-taking method. The results of the study show that the structure of the discourse contained in the Qatar debate consists of several structures. First, the macrostructure that contains thematic elements or general themes, namely about ‘Arab Spring has failed’. Second, is the superstructure which contains schematic elements referring to the system and the rules of the game in the turn of speech. Third, the microstructure contains elements of semantics, syntax, stylistics, rhetoric, and metaphors. The semantic element of the Qatar debate shows the uses of language that aims to rever to connotative meanings. Syntactically, the Qatari debaters are dominant using active sentence patterns and noun sentences (jumlah ismiyah). From the stylistic aspect, both teams have their own style of language, as the pro team uses a lot of declarative styles while the counter team tends to use an interrogative style. The rhetorical and metaphorical elements are used a few times but not in large portions. This study also shows the different views of the two teams from two countries that represent the social views of the people in their respective countries towards the Arab Spring phenomenon.

Keywords – Arab Spring, Critical Discourse Analyst, Qatar Debate

National diversification of wheat-based food has been put into practice. Public consumption of flour-based food, such as noodles and bread, is in great demand. This study aims to determine the calculations, perceptions and attitudes of farmers towards wheat farming, considering that Indonesia is a non-wheat developing country. This qualitative descriptive research using in-depth interviews with 7 informants and observation methods was conducted in Klaten and Demak Regencies. In analyzing the data, this study used an interactive analysis model including data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results show that: 1) based on farmers' calculations, wheat farming is financially not profitable to farmers because the products harvested are not worth the expense; 2) farmers' calculations affect farmers' perceptions which shifted to negative perceptions that wheat farming is not as promising as other farming businesses. Despite the negative perceptions, wheat farming has provided a valuable experience for farmers which is shown by their pride and pleasure and 3) the majority of farmers are not interested in wheat farming, which is shown by their attitude of not being able to accept wheat farming, while other farmers behave otherwise, indicated by their willingness to recommence wheat planting testing. Further research may examine: 1) how to change the culture of rice farming into culture of wheat farming; 2) how to change subsistence rice farming into enterprise and 3) how to change rice farming as social activities to rice farming as business activities.

The goal of this study was to break down gender issues and stereotypes towards women constructed in Bangka Belitung society from the perspective of female authors. In analyzing the data, researchers carried out a qualitative descriptive method with feminist theory. The researchers also conducted critical discourse analysis on writings that have been published by Bangka Belitung’s female authors. The results showed that there were still gender inequality and inferiority of women in society. The identity crisis faced by women when they are not married since marriage is seen as an ideal as well as a complement to their life as real women in society. On the other hand, the picture of how women had no rights over themselves was demonstrated in a situation when matchmaking and marriage were performed one-sidedly and suddenly, women did not have enough power to question these, even refused them. Besides, how strong a patriarchal system and culture was shaped by women, their closest people and the community was proven in the novels of the Bangka Belitung’s female authors.

So far, linguistic research, especially discourse research, is still focused on aspects of the linguistic structure as forming the discourse. Discourse is examined for the existence of cohesiveness and coherence of the discourse. What are the linguistic units that form cohesiveness and cohesiveness both lexical and grammatical coherence. This is different from discourse research using critical discourse paradigms. Critical discourse holds that discourse-forming structures are not in a social "vacuum". Because, discourse is basically a (social) action that is loaded with political, economic, power, cultural background etc. To conduct discourse research using critical paradigms, it is necessary to know the research characteristics of critical discourse analiysis, which includes (1) discourse is (social) action, (2) context, (3) historical, (4) power, (5) ideology, and ( 6) (diction) vocabulary basically (a) limits classification, (b) limits the views of a person / group, and (c) marginalizes certain people / groups. Among the available models, the critical discourse analysis model of the van Dijk model is a well-known model in Indonesia.
